What is your opinion of social media?
(Trying to give people something to talk about.)
I think that social media can be a very useful tool, and in general can be a good thing if used properly.
However I also see social media, particularly Facebook and Twitter, as well frankly a disease. And the reason why I call it a disease is because when people are behind a computer screen, they get this false sense of security and start talking about stuff that would honestly make you wonder why in hell anyone would post something like that for everyone to read.
If there's one thing true about human nature, is that people love to talk. And they love to try to figure out the business of other people, because often times it helps to give them an advantage.
And they will try to pump you for information, coming at you with the guise of being genuinely concerned about you, when in reality they just want whatever dirt they can get on you.
REMEMBER: "In This World Knowledge is power, and he whom you do not have power over his power over you."
That's why is a good rule for life is to play your cards close to the vest. Operate strictly on a need-to-know basis. And if someone doesn't need to know, don't give them an answer; you don't owe them an answer, nor an explanation.
And if they try to pump you for information, don't be afraid to tell them that it's none of their business. Don't be afraid of what they might think of you for telling them to mind their own business. Because people like that, people who pump you for information, they are not people that you want as close friends.
And especially apply this to social media.

It has its pros and its cons. I mean, sure, thanks to social media, you can talk and meet other people. But what if those people are straight up assholes that don't really show their true nature.
Sure, social media has helped a lot of people somehow, but thanks to social media, there were also murders.
In short words, I'm honestly just neutral about it.
Not good since Zuckerberg owes me money.
A lot of funny stuff comes from Twitter, so that's cool.
I can't stand social media and abstain from using a lot of it. I hate finding myself looking into a false projection of other people's lives while being caught up in the dumb political opinions and advertising.
Its fun but its filled with garbage.
Social media becomes more and more important to me as I get older. The further my friends and I drift apart, having our own jobs, lives, responsibilities, the harder it is to stay connected. The more fear-hounding the news becomes, the more balancing social media becomes.
Just as lies become more prevalent, so does truth.
We had this discussion last year and my stance hasn't changed.
Social media is keeping companies more honest. This is especially true in the world of video games.

I just use this site and very rarely I use 4chan and amino. I remember the dawn of social media i had no idea it would be this permanent, my myspace page from 2005 still exists o:
I had a internet connection in 95 and let me tell you its scary how lax attitudes towards privacy have gotten since the early days. I think future generations will be shocked at the amount of private information people put out there especially parents oversharing about young children, telling the world their schedules and showing where they go to school.
It's starting to make the youth and other age groups reluctant of human interaction.
Social media is complicated. It is cool, awesome but at the same time this platform could be disgusting as well. Sometimes I saw some stupid people trying to be funny and cool or try to get attention for themselves but after that, I could see a humorous comment or photo that make me laugh. Social media is really affecting my mood unconstantly
Just a way for people to post stupid "Prayfor..." hashtags and profile filters so they can feel good about themselves by pretending to care about this week's tragedy.

Social media has its benefits and its flaws and depending on how you choose to use it, you will see significantly more of one or the other.
I hate how it has been politically weaponised.

It's a great help for passing time but it wastes too much of many people's time as they are addicted to it and can't do anything productive in their life anymore
It's the only contact I ever have with other human beings.
Its pretty neat. I can easily get a hold of anyone in my life without having to have a phone glued to my ear for ages. I can also hop on forums like this and mess around, so that's fun. Most of the annoying stuff can be scrolled past in .5 seconds, and I can simply close my screen if it gets to be a bit much. If only annoying face to face encounters were so easy.
Whar are you looking at? Read that post ^
Great for remembering birthdays, odd in the sense that people speak with themselves like crazy people outside the liquor store and it's considered normal.
I completely agree. I went to college with this really shy girl that I liked a lot. When we graduated she added me to Facebook and proceeded to make posts with a personality that was definitely not her. Talking like someone trashy when she was (in person) a really sweet person. I was really shocked and even thought maybe her profile had been hacked, but I don't think it was. I think that Social Media like Facebook and Twitter are fine, but I also believe in purging and making it a place you can be comfortable with. I removed a bunch of pages and people that were negative enough to make me hate using those platforms and now I enjoy it much more than I did before. It's also a good way to stay current and not use it for following people you know at all. I'm more meaning Twitter in that sense I suppose.
It's complicated.
Social media as itself is indeed a great tool to connect people, keep up with what is happening in the world and such things. That's why I use it and won't stop to do so.
On the other hand, it very often drains your energy, because either unintelligent or simply evil people feel the need to share their garbage-thoughts with others over the internet. Like all these right-wing idiots, Trump supporters and other backwards-people, xenophobic/ LGBT-phobic creatures and whatnot. You get the picture.
Social media is like everything else. Good if used by good people, bad if used by bad people.
I'll use social media just to look for ceramic things like telltale release date for a game but I don't make accounts for these things to much drama especially with kids just posting things about other people thinking it's cool.
