Is it healthier for a community to allow controversial political discussion to take place knowing heated debate is inevitable or prohibit such discussions outright?

  • Yea that sounds right too

Yeah that's definitely possible. A determinist would probably argue that other factors come into play when going against preference, such as flavor fatigue of the preferred ice cream or an instilled value of open mindedness, possibly among others.

Its a dicipline that focuses on reality. Main goal is found out if there are supernatural things exist. Like God,angels, paradise, inferno, ghosts, soul etc... It is also focusing on the universe we are living in as well.

Do the positive impacts caused by religion outweigh the damage caused by the more radical believers?

  • Society as a whole needs to be able to critique itself, so discussion is important in that respect. In individual communities, it really depends whether it's going to cause a huge disturbance, if people are going to be civil, etc.

This is a bit of a red herring. Religion's problems don't begin or end with people who use scripture to justify their violence/bigotry. I think problems mostly start when religion overlaps with authority.

I guess it depends on what you define a problem is. Some would say that the Westboro Baptist Church protesting a soldier's funeral is a problem but at the same time it could just be considered a slight annoyance. At any rate it's definitely true that only those in power could cause any drastic harm.

  • Oh wait the minecraft comment got deleted? That's weird, it wasn't really that disrespectful IIRC

  • You know if the Sith wasn't full of arrogant sociopaths I'd say their code is pretty sound in theory. Nothing inherently wrong with ambition or competition.

The Sith code sounds like Egoism, so probably that one for me.

The Jedi code sounds like idealistic claptrap that would only work among a group of monks or something. Which kinda makes sense.

  • God was not there.

  • Does an irrevocable falling out between friends or lovers render all good memories shared between them to be meaningless?

  • No, why would it? You may have discovered something new and fun with this person, and enjoy those memories, even if you'd prefer not to think about the person anymore.
