It is so hard to say no to John! (EPISODE 3 SPOILERS)
I'm not ashamed to say it. John Doe is adorable. He makes me go "Awww!" so much. I love him. The specific scene I'm talking about is when you can optionally teach him how to throw a Batarang. Afterwards when he says "Can-- can I keep it?" just the way he says it and the way he looks at you! How can you say no to this man. And then there's how happy he is if you let him keep the photo of you. It crushed me when I saw someone destroy it! One more thing, anyone really get the feels from John's reaction to Bruce sacrificing himself? "Not Bruce. He's my best friend."
Anyway I just love how John is written this season. It's amazing. I adore his friendship of Bruce and the Hero worship of Batman. So feel free to share your thoughts about John Doe.

I seriously thought that I was the only one. I love him! It's insane how strong you can feel for a fictional character. I'm going to be completely destroyed if he goes full Joker no matter what. I'm going to be furious! Because that would mean all that has happened and how you've been treating him hasn't meant anything, like they said that he's being genuine with Bruce. Best character of all TT games, and Anthony Ingruber is doing an amazing job. I've wanted to gush about this for a long time lol!
You're definitely not the only one! From Let's plays I've seen, it seems like people want to like him but are afraid to at the same time.
Anyway, I think John will likely become the Joker but I don't think that means we'll lose our connection with him. It could be an interesting dynamic as Batman and Joker are typically considered to complete each other, two sides of the same coin, etc... you add a friendship to mix and it's a whole unique dynamic. I also believe we can shape the type of Joker he becomes, hence us having the option to encourage him to be genuine or manipulative.
I've been going all in with him haha! The Joker friendship is something I've read and talked about before, I just can't see how it could happen.. I would love to be surprised though. Do you have any ideas how it could go?
Well if he does become Joker the friendship would likely be tainted but the fact that they were friends would add so many possibilities. Bruce could try to reason with him, John could say that he's this way because of Bruce, there's so much they could do! As for how he could become the Joker, I'm not sure. Though some interesting dialogue can happen in episode 3. John doesn't understand how he can be himself when he doesn't even know who that is yet. He then asks Bruce how he knows who he is and Bruce can say he's always known, that something happened and that event mad him who he is. Obviously he's referring to his parent's deaths. John then remarks that a single event made Bruce who he is and that he hopes something like that will happen to him soon. So maybe a major thing could really push John over the edge. Hopefully it's more interesting than falling into some chemicals though. I have no idea how it'll happen. Though I imagine he won't take it well when he discovers Bruce has been using him.
Interesting.. I picked a different response so I didn't know about that. I may have picked one that goes something like not really knowing (who you are). I'm seriously going to have to replay the episode..
But otherwise, I'm intrigued by the thought how the relationship can go after John becomes the Joker, if you've been pro-John the whole time. Why would there be these little hints of Bruce caring about him if he was just using him? Depending how you play it seems like he doesn't like doing it. I'm not imagining that, am I. Maybe it could be something like with Catwoman, she's a criminal. I decided to be friends with her..
It's clear he's comparing Bruce and Batman. How is he going to react when it's finally clear to him that they're the same. If it isn't already.
And who else stopped to listen to John at the rooftop when he was doing the shadow puppets with the light? That was hilarious!
I stopped to listen! It was amazing. The story was basically Gordon being upset because Waller ordered him to shave his moustache! "No, the Batman. It's too much!" He literally says THE Batman.
Haha! When I replay I'm going to listen the whole thing till the end. Too bad I didn't last time.
Like I said in another thread, I'm hoping to make my John more cerebral then physically violent and I've been wondering ever since if telling him to be genuine was a step in the wrong direction to achieving that goal.
probably. If you tell him to "pull her strings" you get a few options for teaching him how to manipulate people. I told him to listen to people, because eventually they'll reveal what they really want and you can get inside their head. Sounds pretty cerebral to me. To me the cool thing about Joker is his unpredictability, not so much any intense violence he's committed.

I destroyed his phone and wouldn't let him have a batarang. I felt like a monster for doing it, but I was only doing it to protect him. Imagine what would Harley have done to him if she saw that picture or batarang?
I bet he is going to stab us in the back with that fricken batarang.
Omg... now you are making me feel bad about my choices. I thought of how it could end up in the wrong hands and come back to bite me in the ass... I let him keep the picture and gave him the Batarang anyway because, just like AgentZ46 said, it is hard to deny him anything . I didn't think of what it would mean for him. Now that you mention it, it's obvious. If any member of the pact find those, Bane more so than anyone else, then he is done.
It would be such an interesting turn of event. We always talk about how destroying the phone and refusing to give him the batarang is self preservation. Sometimes we think he might use it against us later, or simply somebody else could find it and put two and two together. Being nice to him would be what puts him in danger this time.
I say no to John as batman and play as his buddy as Bruce. But he's my pawn in this game. My Bruce is a jerk, who don't care for no one no more. He's going to be all alone by the end of this.
I'm excited because I bet there will be a choice that determines who John will be and it will probably be a situation where Bruce has the option of betraying him or helping him. And, given how cool John is, I bet the vast majority are going to try and help him. I'll be in the minority that screws him over.
I completely love his character. I think he’s incredibly well written. I do hope he’s genuine because then it would mean he’s a true friend to Bruce, but I just have a sneaking suspicion that he is manipulating Bruce and Harley. In my playthrough I have been nice to John the whole time, but more as a way of a mixture of giving him the benefit of the doubt and manipulating him to be on my side. I just don’t trust him enough.
It's hard to trust him, right?! Given that we know he's the Joker. But it goes to show just how amazing telltale did with his character because its also hard not to trust him and feel that he's genuine. Your torn because you see and know he's smarter than he lets on but you also can't shake the feeling he really wants to be Bruce's friend.
No manipulation on my part. Every time I’ve been nice to John it’s been out of genuine friendship. I want him to know what it’s like to have actual friends.
I'm very impressed this Season with how the writers have created John, as well as how well his voice actor brings all that to life. In Season One, I wasn't a fan. There's something remarkable about him now that's dangerously addictive. It's amazing what a polarizing effect his character has on different players. Some view him as a mastermind, some as a victim -- but he could be both given as he has no memory prior to Arkham. He might be genuine with Bruce, and his recovery from those effects could bring out what lies underneath.
It is pretty remarkable how differently one character can be viewed by different people. I for one was always wary of John. There's always something really disturbing about him even when he's being all "nice". That's why my Bruce was always careful in what he did or said when with John, because I wasn't sure if one bad move on my part wouldn't just set him off.
John is probs one of the "funner" characters to interact with. However, based on the ep 4 and 5 title cards, and assuming that he will become the Joker by the end of this season, I wont be surprised if there will be a twist that John is behind everything, such as Riddler's death
I actually don't think John is behind Riddler's death, and I think he's being mostly genuine, although episode 3 shows he's not above backstabbing people he cares about. I think something else will happen that causes him to face-off with Batman. I think SANCTUS are probably the people who killed Riddler, after-all it is said he had a beef with them.
It wouldn't really be a twist for Riddler's murderer to be John, as many have thought it had been John from the end of Ep1. I still think it was him. A twist for the season would be that the killer was Tiffany or Alfred. ( Neither of which are very likely. )
We all know this train wreck is coming. I wonder how many versions of Joker there will be. I'm guessing only two, as everything has been in one of two colors.
I think if anything is going to set him off, it's probably going to be something happening to Harley.
I'm definitely curious to see what John will be like once he's The Joker, and how much of a shift it will be from his earlier personality given how atypical it can seem from traditional Joker (if not that far off).
well supposedly that all depends on your interactions with him. The type of Joker he becomes depends on the Joker you make him, which is pretty awesome.

There was also a line when they're at Riddler's place where he says that he was worried for a while about losing Bruce to Catwoman. Cute
missed that in my first playthrough.
I completely agree. His character is so interesting and a lot more different than how the usual Joker character acts.
I've been mostly buddy-buddy with John as Bruce, and slightly as Batman (didn't shake his hand or promise to spare Harley, but did let him get his souvenirs.)
I think he's being genuine, as so far he's still learning who he is and who he trusts, but there's always this lingering feeling in the back of my head that somehow my friendship is going to bite me in the back. As for right now, the Bruce/John relationship is my favorite aspect of the game.
Major kudos to everyone involved in creating this character, and to whoever wrote that "Gordon's moustache" bit... Comedy gold right there.
i played the 3 épisodes 2 times. one time by being always nice and bff with him, and the other play by always being kinda rude and mean to him. i have to say , i broke his phone with an heavy heart
