Anyone else feel like the stage is being set for s3?

Because I can't see all the plots being wrapped up in just one final episode, especially considering the episode lengths we have been getting lately. I honestly wouldn't mind if all the subplots aren't resolved in episode 5 so long as we get a clear indication that there will, in fact, be a third season.

There's clearly a big reveal involving Waller/Avesta/the Agency coming up and I dont think revealing and wrapping it up in a single episode would do it justice. Similarly, Tiffany and John are just now beginning to step into their respective Batgirl and Joker roles and only seeing them for one episode would be a disappointment and a bit of a letdown. And finally, we are just now beginning to get a decently sized supervillain roster with a couple determinant factors (Lady Arkham knowing our identity or not, Freeze being superpowered and grateful to us or not, Harvey being burned or not) and I would love to see the s1 and s2 villains returning and creating different alliances for whatever reasons. Plus, a big complaint was that certain villains like Bane and Freeze had minor and somewhat trivial roles in this season, so having a third season would give them more screentime and relegate their roles in s2 to origin stories.

Telltale has done a great job at crafting their own Batman universe and i feel like it is finally getting to the point where all the groundwork is laid out with everyone's origin stories. Now with a developed villain roster and the beginnings of the Batfamily they can go all out on the next season, giving an amazing season that will solidify Telltale Batman as an epic trilogy. This is one instance where I actually hope we get a cliffhanger because that will practically guarantee a third season.

What are your thoughts? Do you also feel like the stage is being set for a third season? Or do you think we will only get one more episode of Telltale Batman and that is it?

  • I'm pretty sure we'll get another season, but I hope it doesn't continue any villain from this one.
I know everyone loved John and Harley this season, but their story has to end, yeah the Joker is the main antagonist of Batman but there are still a lot more villains we could get, is not fair that Penguin, Two Faces and Lady Arkham never get mentioned again but we get ANOTHER season about the Joker.

Unless they don't make any plot twist with Avesta, I think she will be left for Season 3 and Waller and John should be resolved in Episode 5 (in Season 1 they easily solved Oswald/Harvey and Vicki, they can do the same here).

I'd be severely heartbroken if this is where Batman ends. S2 might end well, but I'd miss this series, that's for damn sure.
But, I doubt this is the end as, yes, there are a lot of loose threads to tie up, mysteries to solve (who killed Riddler?), and the story and its characters are really getting good. Having a large cast of villains to choose from is always nice, so hopefully we do get an "All-Star Villains" season. That would be the perfect way to close the series.

  • I dont know about a third season. To me episode 4 kinda showed me that past seasons arnt going to really matter. Besides just small dialogue call backs in a passing sentence, theres not much about season 1 thats talked about.

For me this is mostly because John seems kinda retconned now from Season 1. Season 1 John knew Vicki was Lady Arkham and he also seemed to know Bruce was Batman (which we now know he 100% did) and he seemed to be the one responsible for the truck attack at the end of Season 1 (which seems to be just 100% forgotten I guess lmao)

Basically I found John becoming Joker to be just a little disappointing and not really explaining things set up in season 1. I mean for connecting seasons I was really hoping Oz was going to appear considering he was a popular character, and in every version of the story his leg would always be broken and he'd get beaten up thus making him the exact same for everyone just one was taken out by Bruce and the other Batman. They could have easily fit him in as if there was a scene where we could have interrogated him by saying he had connections to Riddler for example.

So season 3 Im not sure about until this season ends. For me Im just wishing Telltale would kinda stop the whole "new comer" ideal and just make a game that expects you to have played the last game, considering I highly doubt the percent of people who are playing Season 2 but not Season 1 is past 10% of players. I just want every season to feel truly connected and have some proper crossover to it. (I mean Catwoman is being thrown away harder than she even was in Season 1)

  • he seemed to be the one responsible for the truck attack at the end of Season 1 (which seems to be just 100% forgotten I guess lmao)

I don't think he was responsible for that. His appearance at the end was just for a tease, and his remarks were more along the lines of "I can do better than that! At least I'll try...". It just set him up as a future contender and character in Gotham.

You could write it off as John faking the entire time, roping you along to believe his lies, pretending he doesn't know squat about murder or Batman or his best buddy Bruce.

We'll see how everything is once Episode 5 comes along, but I have a feeling if not that, then maybe next season you'll find things more interconnected. (I could be wrong, but we haven't exactly seen a "final season" of anything from Telltale yet, so they probably want to be faithful to the fans of a series when it ends..)

  • Well again, at least he'll try. Its setting him up to be a bad guy or atleast have some type of plan. All of his scenes from season 1 to me seemed to set up that he was going to be the one pulling all the strings, but I guess not. I really thought episode 4 was going to have John finally reveal he was just tricking Bruce, Batman, and the entire pact from behind the scenes, I was even expecting it to reveal he was the one who killed Riddler (which is still unanswered and I wont be surprised if its never answered sadly)

  • This series at least deserves an official "final season" it can't end after 2 seasons, personally I would love 4 or 5 seasons but at least Telltale should make a trilogy.

  • Ah, ah, the Walking Dead is widely considered to have Season 1 as the peak of its story. Season 2,not so much. Season 3 was a marketing and writing nightmare.

Batman's doing pretty good so far, with a decent season 1, and a widely accepted superior season 2. And this time, there's relationships to fall back on. Plenty of people to choose from to feature in Season 3, unlike TWD which only has a few characters who aren't yet dead. (Lily, Christa)

  • Well s3 doesn't HAVE to have John in it, considering how much attention he is getting this season. In fact i would love to see the s1 villains return (moreso Harvey and Penguin and not Lady Arkham).

  • I would be pretty depressed if the series ended on s2 as well. I'm hoping that this season can end with Deadshot or somebody being revealed as the Riddler assassin and then s3 can pick up on that plot.

  • God I hope so. For the first time since Tales from the Borderlands and Game of Thrones ended I'm actually excited for a telltale game. It's so refreshing being back in this episodic world. I honestly think Enemy Within is the best telltale game after Walking Dead Season 1 (modern style)

I think the story seems to require having played Season 1 for full context. If you were thrown in straight from the start, would it make sense for John Doe (a random guy from an insane asylum) to be so intimately familiar with Bruce Wayne and to attach to him out of the blue? Would it make sense for a newcomer going in blind to have John allude to time they both previously spent in Arkham (alongside an owed favor, as well as acknowledgement that he started a riot to cover for Bruce to escape) if players were coming in as newcomers?

Just because they use a new plot line, it doesn't mean the continuity isn't there. If you recall back to Season 1, they even tie the story to Season 1 in smaller ways outside of the Arkham/John storyline (such as Riddler's base being on a bad/abandoned side of town after Harvey Dent's bomb detonation destroyed a whole block to get rid of the Season 1 villains).

And also, the Agency figures out Bruce Wayne's identity because they presumed that he was aligned with the Season 1 villains (Lady Arkham, Two Face, Penguin), because Avesta pulls up that picture of Bruce with himself, Vicki, Oswald, and Harvey at the Harvey Dent campaign event in Season 1, which was supposedly implying Bruce's connection to crime (alongside his father's connections to organized crime).

  • I think it’s almost positive we are going to have a season 3. I love John to pieces, but I don’t think he should be the focus of the next season too. I’d rather have a new storyline introducing the remaining main villains of the Batman universe, namely Poison Ivy, Scarecrow, and Ra’s Al Ghul.

  • I would rather new villains instead of old ones. Maybe we could see Freze or Penguin again, but that’s all. I would rather to see Joker come back as the main villain in a season 4.

  • And yeah I think the Walking Dead should have ended after it's Season 2, I just the think the Batman series deserves at least a 3rd Season with the amount of characters and stories etc.

  • Poison Ivy, Scarecrow, and Ra's Al Ghul/League of Assassins are precisely the villains I would want and expect from s3. Plus small returning roles for Joker, Harvey, Penguin, and Freeze.

  • Personally I'd like to see more of John, Harley and Freeze in upcoming seasons simply because Bruce established pretty strong relationships with them. Bane was kinda just there to be a constant threat and The Pacts muscle, but depending on how things turn out with Freeze, he has A LOT of legs to become a major factor in an upcoming season. I'd also like to see the return of Lady Arkham, at least in the final season, and I think she will return since it's stated her body was never found.

  • In agreement I would like to see John, Harley and Freeze again. I liked the first fight with Bane but the second wasn't as fun and the three mentioned out-shined him by a ton.

  • Ivy, Scarecrow, Croc and Ras al Ghūl are the only members of Batman's core rogues gallery that haven't made an appearance yet. Everyone else has so I'm sure if we get more seasons they'll make an appearance. Personally I would love to see Hush in the future although I feel he would be too similar to Oswald in this version.

  • Keyword is full context. That whole scene is the biggest connection from season 1 to season 2 where it basically sums up everything that happened in season 1 for new comers. Bruce is framed, sent to the asylum and meets John, and heres even a handy dandy list of all the people you took down! Obviously newcomers dont get full context, but they get the context of what happened in season 1, considering no real callbacks after that are ever mentioned. For example Catwoman only really appears in episode 3 and everyone gets practically the same experience no matter how they left off with her in Season 1, with he only thing changing the relationship is what you do in season 2.

Basically ep 4 kinda made me realize that Season 1 is getting more and more forgotten. I mean the only Season 1 characters in episode 4 are Bruce and Alfred, and Catwoman for like a whole 3 mins. (John too obviously, but he didnt start getting any real character development until season 2)

So season 3 Im not sure about until this season ends. For me Im just wishing Telltale would kinda stop the whole "new comer" ideal and just

  • From a Season 3 i vould like to se a brief cameo of other DC characters, kinda like Waller in this season.
Like Bruce being intervewd by a certain reporter from Daily Planet...

  • And I wouldn't want that at all, actually I would want quite the opposite, I want telltale to stick just to the Batman lore. There's really no need to bring any of the other DC characters to the party.

  • Indeed. Superman, justice League and the whole shabang would just make things a lot messier than they need to be. This is a Batman game, let it stick to the Batman lore.

  • 100% in agreement with @Handsome Rhys and @JmoooX. Keep it Batman and the rest as nonexistent.

  • Bruce and Avesta to be together.
