Delay is taking the game hype

Being this last season, they could do the favor for the fans and release the EP sooner. This delay takes the hype out of the game, I know they want to deliver something with quality, but that delay of 1 month makes me very nervous. Telltale is all focused on TWD, they could have released the early ep. Does that also take the hype out of you?

If Telltale were to release it now they may release it may be riddled with glitches and other bugs. Telltale have pretty much wrapped up Production on Episode 2 but they are probably using this remaining time to ensure that the Episode itself runs smoothly on all platforms. And it isn't really much of a delay. A delay is more of a setback in development. When development is taking longer than expected or it is a lot more complicated developers delay the game to ensure it is ready and prepped for the pushed back launch date. In this case Telltale have completed writing and producing the Episode but are using the remaining time to iron out all of the kinks and provide a smooth and enjoyable experience to players

They probably would've if this is a usual Telltale game series from the ANF era of Telltale.

The Final Season is no such game, though. You have more hubs, an opened up combat system, overhauled visuals, much better animations and they actually polished the game with a good runtime. Be glad they pre-produced enough to get these kinds of episodes out every six weeks, instead of three months for an episode with a runtime of barely 90 minutes and merely any actual interactions in it.

This is basicslly Season One quality - if not better - content every six weeks. How's that a bad thing?

  • No, it does not take the hype from me. I've waited longer for episodes in previous seasons where we had no idea when the next episode was expected to drop.

  • Naw, it's fine, it's not that long to wait.
Plus we got time to talk about it :)

That's not how games development works - especially for a studio that develops live like Telltale. They can't just release the episode now. They're probably still finalising things, finishing up the episode, then polishing it.

  • 3 weeks and 6 days left. Not that long at all.

  • I just think they should have before launching the 1 and have left half of the development, polishing and etc of the 2 in the middle so they would not have much work to release the ep and this also account for the other episodes, I know that they want to deliver something with quality because I've seen a lot of difference to ANF in ANF my game has picked up many bugs and in twd4 I have had no problem with it so far but I really can not stand being waiting to launch the episodes just getting frustrated, sad and I end up losing half the urge to play and this is very bad ..

  • It builds the hype for me. All about the anticipation.

  • This... is actually pretty tame in terms of waiting periods inbetween episodes - plus, we know the estimated release dates from the get go. Back in the days of earlier Seasons, it was common to wait for like 2-3 months inbetween episodes without having estimated release dates in advance.

This time around, we only have to wait around six weeks inbetween episodes and we have upfront estimated release dates. That's pretty good.

  • We've had worse waiting times just be a little more patient...we want this game to stay as awesome as it started.

  • There's a delay?

  • ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! I HAVE HAD IT WITH THIS MOTHERFUCKING DELAY ON THIS MOTHERFUCKING GAME!!!!
I'm mad now. DontNod Ent, where you at???

  • I'd rather wait for a quality product then have a biweekly product that is very poor in quality. People need to have more patience for a product to be fully made rather than just wanting it pumped out for the sake of impatience. What good is a game that's released early if the game is of poor quality and performance as opposed to a polished product.

  • If you lose the urge to play the game after a month then perhaps you don't like the game as much as you think you do.

  • That, plus if he doesn't want to wait between the episodes he could just wait till the last episode gets released.

  • To be honest, if Telltale needs to delay the release of one of their episodes to fix bugs or flesh out some part of a character, I would rather wait for that than get something quick that's clearly rushed, buggy, and obviously has some aspects of character development cut out.

  • @BigLee I agree, this delay is killing the hype the game built up. With Life is Strange 2 releasing Sept. 25th and TFS ep 2 delayed, TFS has fallen out of my favor. Perhaps forever.

  • I've lost count of how many times I've spent all three seasons, I'm just saying I lose the hype loses the urge to play, does not mean I do not like the game

  • I also want this, but if before releasing 1 and it was so simple to have left the 2 ep with the development and the polishing in the middle, then they would have little to finish the ep and would launch faster. Do not you agree with that?

  • Honestly, you must by fricking mad. In the past we had to wait 2-3 months before another episode was released and you are complaining about waiting just 1 month? This man is insane!

  • Not to mention it’s waiting a month with a known release date. Like you said, we used to wait 2-3, but it was always in a constant state of uncertainty since the release date was never given until a couple of weeks before. Ask yourself, what’s worse, 2-3 months of uncertainty, or one month of actually knowing when it’ll be out? I’d take Option B any day.

  • Da fuq. You no longer like the game because it has a one month break between episodes?

  • Ikr. Seems like no one has the patience for something good. And if they get it instantly they complain "this is rushed and terrible." Can't have it both ways.

  • Telltale is actually doing that. (from what I know)

  • It’s delayed because they need to check If everything is well suit to launch the second episode.

But that's exactly what they do with TFS. When episode 1 was released, episode 2 was basically nearly finished. When episode 2 releases, episode 3 is nearly finished.

That's why we only have to wait 6 weeks instead of several months.

The reason why they don't release the next episode faster is, because they want to ensure that these episodes are optimized. They also wait a little bit to make sure the episode after that is far enough into developement so there isn't any unforseeable delay in the first place.

  • Tell that to Duke Nukem Forever. Delayed for 15 years = one of the most disappointing games ever made.

  • OzzyUKOzzyUK Moderator

They kind of do this already but it still takes time to complete and polish the game, there is also the two week certification process that needs to happen on both PS4 and Xbox One to make sure there are no console breaking bugs which can add any extra time.

  • i wasn't actively checking for anf, but i remember the waiting times for season 2, tftbl, got, and twau had much longer waiting times with no real consistency to releases either

Just play with something else. I'm playing with Warhammer Total War 2 and Path of Exile.
I also read this forum sometimes, dont think too much about the game, if you do you might be tempted to read some leaks and spoilers and you ruin the game for yourself, so to avoid that I just keep myself busy with some different games.

Like what @Blind Sniper said: this is pretty tame in terms of waiting periods between episodes.

Remember when Episode 2 Of TWAU took 4 MONTHS to be released? Of Episode 3 Of ANF taking 3 months to be released?

  • edited August 2018

Ah... Tales Ep2... 4 months... good ol' times. Definitely the one that felt the longest in my opinion.

  • I honestly like the waiting. It gives me time to develop my thoughts and opinions heading on to the next episode. I also enjoy reading the discussions, theories and predictions about the future episodes. I/we wouldn't even get the half of it, if the episodes were released near instantly.

  • Just saying if you were around back when s2 came out, waiting for ep2, you would realise how sooner this is coming out compared to that

  • It's not a delay because the game hasn't been delayed. They never gave us dates before, them doing so now is a huge plus, and the wait times are much shorter than they used to be because they've worked on this game for a long time before release. A short wait between episodes is actually really good, you never get that sense of hype and excitement if you just play through the game in two or three sessions.
