I do believe the actual problem is, there was a cheaper option before, but was way too unrealiable. I mean, for example, out of 3 orders, the postal office lost one of them.

This is true, my partner bought me the Sam & Max animated series for my birthday last year and it had to be resent because the first one was lost.

I'm also very disappointed and feel a bit scammed about the "free DVD". I think TTG should either cover a part of the shipping costs or clearly state what "free DVD" really means before you have bought the whole season.

it alwasy says that you pay the shipping cost. It is up to you to inform yourself how much the shipping is since it is different for every country.
And nobody forces you to order now. I am sure the next "free shipping if you buy a downloadable game"-Deal will come. Then it will be 8,90$ Shipping (cost of the game) or you can save up so you can get 2 DVDs at once.

der_ketzler: Sure it's up to me to inform myself. However, I believe that I'm not terribly wrong saying that in this case the shipping costs should have been informed before the purchase.

    Thanks for the ordering tips.

To heat things up, it's now over a month I placed the 'OK for the 17$ shipping costs' and I haven't received any DVD but someone did already take my money for the shipping costs (also a month ago). I also kind of thought that money would only get deducted at time of shipping. Guess it's indeed all up to me to inform myself :/
  • edited April 2010
The DVD's are not done yet, so it's no surprise they aren't shipped yet...

Hm, weird... I placed an order for ~ $110, but I was still charged $35 for shipping... did I miss something?

    I'm from Belgium (EU).

Free shipping (for orders over $50) ended a few weeks ago.

It did say free + shipping costs. Sure the shipping is expensive but you knew you'd have to pay shipping so you should have checked.

Well, until the ridiculously expensive shipping cost-problem is solved there will be no orders made by me from the TTG Store, I just simply can't afford to spend the same amount (or more) on shipping as on the actual items :(

The shipping costs is the only thing that stopped me from ordering the "free" dvd. I would be ready to pay as much as 10$ for shipping, but everything above that is just too much. I order a lot from stores in the US, Canada or Australia and never had to pay more than that, mostly its around 5-6$.

To the comments, saying that it's not Telltale's fault. I disagree with that. They made the contracts with the shipping company and should be able to see that costs that high for a single item are just not really explainable to customers.

The free shipping when ordering for 50$ isn't much of an option either, if you do not want that much stuff (or in my case rather buy a Sam&Max Wii release on disc).

hmm yeah this sucks.. i was expecting about 10$ but now I'm not so sure I'm gonna get that dvd.

    I refuse.

I agree, I'm appalled at this new shipping rate. They want to charge me $18US to ship to Australia.. I've ordered both seasons of Sam & Max, Wallace & Gromit, Strong Bad and each time the postage was only a few $
I've got the same problem & I live in Australia too, I want my special pre-order fancy cover Monkey Island but I don't want to pay $20 for shipping :( Even when considering the extras it doesn't seem worth it & makes me consider sticking with my digital copies instead. I know it sounds like I'm being cheap but I'd rather choose a slower shipping method to save $10

Might buy a plane ticket & swing by Telltale Studios so I can grab my copy personally, thus saving $20! (after spending $2000) :p

You could wait until the next 'Free Shipping' deal. That's what I did with my DVDs for the Sam & Max, Strong Bad and Wallace & Gromit seasons.
That'll probably be around the time the Sam & Max Season 3 DVD will be available for preorder though, so it'll be a long wait.

The current 50% off sale if you buy Puzzle Agent & bundle it with other stuff is pretty cool. I tried ordering it with Wallace & Gromit DVD (I don't own any episodes yet) & the p&h costs goes down to US$15.90 yet Monkey Island DVD is still in the cart as well? *scratches head* I have no idea how that makes any sense but I might go with that

Pretty outrageous Telltale is spamming me with 'order sam & max now' when it's almost over a year that I ordered Tales of Monkey Island and still haven't played that game.

Not even the downloadable version (the first episode has been available for over 10 months, the others, pretty much every month after that)?

Agree that the shipping costs are high.

UK people (and others?) should also be aware that they may get an additional customs charge on a larger package. I made an order, making use of a few offers, and getting my "free" W&G DVD in one go. I got charged ~$15 customs charge and had to pick it up from the post office. I had no idea that I would have to pay this!

Not so good! I won't be buying any more physical products from Telltale until this is sorted. (I would also like a refund of my $15...).

Before you make international orders it is your responsibility to inform yourself about the national laws.
In your case you could have gotten the information from the HMRC before ordering. There is a List on Wikipedia with names of the responsible customs services for other countries, as a first starting point.

The internet has made it easy to make transactions that are more complicated than just buying in a local store. Therefore it is necessary to be aware of possible legal issues of any kind.

You can check if the HMRC claimed the 15$ wrongfully to get them back from them, but i think it's rather that you just didn't know.

It is also not a Telltale issue, but rather something you always have to keep in mind when ordering from a different country, especially when it's non-EU.
I usually try to precalculate the customs and VAT before i decide to make a physical order from abroad.
Luckily Germany is relatively generous and we only have to pay customs duty for goods above 150€ and 19% or 7% VAT above 22€

No, I wanted a disc, I payed for a disc, but I don't have a disc. Why would I download a game which is coming on a disc to me? Maybe if I had known when I ordered the game that I had to pay almost the same amount for the shipping, I wouldn't have gotten the disc... arr those scurvy sea dogs.

I don't think the 'free P&P for order $50 or over' offer is available outside the US - I recently ordered $54 worth of stuff & I was still charged the 16.99+ if I added game DVD's into the order.

Free shipping for orders over $50- (excluding prints) was available outside the US but ended a while back (on March 28, I believe).

Not anymore, only for a limited time. But it is outside the US. Anyway, i wish I only had to pay $17 for shipping. Even the W&G dvd costs me more than that, in shipping

It's kinda odd - When I added the first DVD it charged me $16.50.
With the second DVD, the price went up to $16.99
Then when I added the third DVD it went up to around $32 :)

(Although currently, its not letting me buy 'just' the DVD's - whenever I go to the purchase page (for whatever game) it charges me for the games as well, even though I already own them :) )

BEFORE you add the DVDs to the cart, enter the order number in the DVD's page where it tells you to.

You only need to pay for customs if the order is over £120
are you sure it wasnt VAT? (but that seems quite unlikley as well unless what you got was over £85)

It seems someone has made a mistake.

Sorry NeatNit Man, I'm not quite sure where the DVD page is?

Thing is, before I made my last order, I could go to the games 'shop' page (the page where you can select the episode/series to add to your cart) and the price for the season & DVD was always displayed as $0.00... After I made the order it always displays the seasons full price (even after adding to the shopping cart).

Import VAT for the UK is £18 or above...

'Import VAT is charged at the same rate that applies to similar goods sold in the UK and applies to commercial goods over £18'
  • edited June 2010
Import VAT is different to Customs.
Now that I think about it, it probably was the VAT because i forgot to exchange the curencies in my previous calculations
If he paid £58 (including shipping) then the VAT (17.5%) would be £10 ($15)

Go on to the store page, then click on "Games" on the box on the left, Then you will have a full list of every game they sell (or just follow this link) and just look for the DVD version of what you want.
On the DVD versions page bellow the price is a box to enter your order number in.

ToMI doesnt seem to have it. Telltale should get that fixed.

Can you get a discount for the Delux edition?
  • edited June 2010
    It seems ToMI detects automatically.

The Deluxe edition should cost $50 (I think). If it costs $15, that means you already have the discount.
  • edited June 2010
If I add either of them I still get charged their full prices.

Still waiting for reasonable shipping prices to Canada. I only preordered Tales of Monkey Island digitally because I thought I could get a physical copy for the cost of shipping a DVD (which should not exceed $6; $16 is outrageous). If it's the case that reasonable shipping options are going to remain unavailable, I can't justify buying any more Telltale Games.
