  • Selling a product before it's finished is...kinda the point of episodic gaming. Telltale offers a Season Pass for their games when only the first episode has been made because a lot of people they know that they're going to eventually buy all of the episodes anyway and would rather pay the game off in one simple transaction.

Allowing people to pre-order a Season Pass is just taking that one step further, which seems fairly reasonable in this case because Season 2 is just a continuation of Season 1. This time, it even comes with a discount and a collector's DVD so there's a lot more incentive to do it.

I suppose you could say that Telltale is "complacent" or confident that many gamers will get Season 2 because of how much they liked Season 1. Maybe they are. But you'd be hard-press to prove them wrong.

When you read through the comments here you get the impression of TT staff sitting behind their screens, twiddling thumbs and rofling about us being desperate for the second season. Are you nuts? Every single day of production causes enormous costs, in the end TT Games is a just a company being anxious to yield a profit - they can't allow themselves to take more time than necessary. Trust me: the least they want is to stall us. They work as fast as they can, don't let the impatience fool you.

Edit: And to all the downvoters: You're complementing the picture of hardcore fans being a bunch of impatient children not able to think rationally

  • I experienced the delay between episode 1 and 2 as particularly unsettling, as you might remember.

We had a whole lot of new people on board for the ride; even for the Universal franchises in 2011, we didn't have such a huge influx of new members. Just like you, they didn't have the experience and therewith the trust that Telltale would deliver all episodes. The time frame actually was secondary to most people. Telltale had said within a month, and didn't deliver within a month - and also didn't say a word about the matter for a really, really long time.

I don't think something like this will repeat anytime soon. We're presently certain that Season 2 opens before Christmas. The actual real zugzwang for Telltale presently is to make a statement about episode 2 of The Wolf Among us, because we're in week 6 after ep. 1 and nothing's on the horizon yet.

Exactly. No date was ever changed. "Fall 2013", the time frame which they have announced in late 2012, is still correct.

Fall ends December 21st. If Telltale releases episode 1 before that, I'd like to see some serious applause in here for the game with the least changed release date ever in the history of gaming.

Bottom line this game should have been finished, submitted to 3rd part vendors, and certified already even if TTG was waiting until day X to release the game.

That's a hell of a blanket statement. If Telltale knew they wouldn't have the workforce to complete the episode by the end of the year, they wouldn't advertise its release before Christmas late in October, don't you think?

Any project manager will tell you the very worst time for employee production is now until mid January.

I am a project manager. Says "Senior Manager" right there on my business cards. And I happen to work in an area where freelancers jump at every opportunity to get work between Christmas and New Year's, and where the only real risk is that they have too much work to do. So, not "any project manager" would approve of your statement.

  • Have we gotten a console announcement yet? I could care less when within the next two months it gets released, but I'm getting increasingly ticked by the lack of confirmation regarding what it's launching on. They have to know by now, and they also have to be aware we want to know, yet still they say nothing. A lot of people are going to be ticked if it's not launching for their consoles when the date is finally announced, after all this teasing and promising.

I want season 2 as much as everyone here, better today than tomorrow, but you have to see it realistically and rationally. Being bitter is pointless and it is really ridiculous making such a revolt against TT. "Later this Year", "This Fall" and "Before Christmas" they said - not a promise broken, yet.

  • Thanks.
Just seems like a very vague post, y'know?

  • It DOES seem particularly vague, and I got a frown from it.

Not sure if an ill phrased facebook post justifies another 'out loud' clarification from Telltale that they still intend to release the first episode before Christmas, but let's see if I can advocate such an official post a wee bit.

Yeah, kind of. We think they stall us because we have to wait which is hard. But the meaning of "stalling" is having the product but not handing it out, yet, out of vicious motives. Why would this be their intention? Of course that it is not their intention. They've been working on it for months, day and night, and as said above every hour of production costs money. I work at a small Design and Advert Agency - it's not nearly the dimensions of a game company but I can witness how every hour of additional work causes extra costs of thousands of dollars. Now imagine the costs for developement of a game, and they haven't earned a penny, yet. I think the staff is up to finish the first episode as "soon" as possible and they are longing for a break (xmas break) as we long for the release. They do their best. You want it more specific. The problem is that they need additional time for unforeseen complications, and then there is unpredictability due to the game consoles.
