Telltale Games, the studio behind the critically-acclaimed The Walking Dead game series, is now working on at least one Game of Thrones video game, IGN reports.P
That's a perfect fit—and undoubtedly cool news to anyone who enjoys the murdery HBO series. IGN says they don't know when or where the game(s) would be set, but Telltale has a great track record, and although there haven't been any good Game of Thrones video games yet, who wouldn't love the thought of an episodic adventure series in Westeros filled with terrible, terrible choices?
Season two of The Walking Dead game series is slated to start later this year. No word on when this Game of Thrones game would launch, or how many games it would consist of, but the pieces fit. In a recent Reddit AMA, Telltale co-founder Dan Connors hinted that they had something big in the works: "We will be working on a few licenses that definitely fall into our dream IP scenario and we can't wait to announce those," he wrote.P
We've reached out to Telltale for comment on this rumor, and will update should we hear back from them.P
UPDATE: From Telltale exec Steve Allison: "We get these sorts of rumors about what we could be working on next cropping up all the time. Officially we have no comment."
What do you guys think, legit?

A Telltale game based on A Song of Ice and Fire. Wow. That's all I ever wanted. Please be true, please be true.
I really hope this turns out to be true. If there's a studio that can do the books justice, it's Telltale. They've got a very good track record so far - both The Walking Dead and The Wolf Among Us are great series, that not just stay true to the source material, but expand on it as well. And I think that's the only way you can possibly adapt a series as big as A Song of Ice and Fire into a video game. The RPG approach failed, and it wasn't just because of the studio's ineptitude, but because you can't dumb the series down to fit your typical RPG archetype.
So if this is true, my inner fanboy will explode when Telltale confirms it. GRRM, I hope you've learned your lesson from Cyanide, and decided to go with an amazing studio like Telltale.
If this is legit than yay for the fans I guess..Looks like I won't be buying it since I'm not a fan of midevil or roman time periods. :I I still wish Telltale the best of luck on whatever they are working on even Game of thrones :P
Doubt it, didn't someone at Telltale say they have multiple teams or something? I may be wrong though.
Telltale's been hiring a lot lately, so I don't think it'll impact the game series they're currently working on. If the rumors are actually true and they are working on a Game of Thrones game, I don't think we'll see it anytime soon. At least, not until they release the fifth episode of The Wolf Among Us.
And they've always taken this long between episodes. Remember the first season of The Walking Dead? It usually took them a couple of months to release a new episode. I don't think that'll change.
Same here dude, I hate mid evil and roman periods of time.
If it's true than they should just work on it after The wolf among us and The Walking dead season 2.
This Game of the Thrones is probably a future project after The Walking Dead and The Wolf Among Us. But god help them if they even try to squeeze this in between TWAU, and TWD.
I am not into Game of Thrones.
Buuut: I wasn't into The Walking Dead. And I never heard of Fables. Until that stupid company named Telltale Games made games out of them. So I am prepared to get sucked into Game of Thrones.
I'm not very hyped over this as I hate the series. Depends however if Telltale can turn it into something new.
I'd play it.
Well, I'm out another $25...
IGN have done this before, and can do it again. Don't believe it until Telltale say it themselves. They only say "reliable sources", yet they don't reveal them. IGN is like Fox News and I'm almost sure this is overhyped. IGNorant at it's best.
I never read Game of Thrones, and without choice in this game I have no intention of buying it regardless if it's by TTG or not. :P I guess that's my spiteful way of saying "NOOOOOOOOO"
I don't like Game of Thrones. High chances are that I'll play the Telltale game, if there is one.
Remember this is just a rumor, guys. Recall Kevin Bruner making a couple comments at wanting to develop a Star Wars Telltale game on the Reddit AMA? At least three news sites interpreted that as "Telltale will definitely be developing a Star Wars game."
Yeah, I had read that earlier. I certainly hope it's true. Perhaps they can set it during Robert's Rebellion?
I have to say, I'm pretty surprised how many people on here don't like Game of Thrones. Any particular reasons why? I found the writing to be pretty top-notch.
You know they may keep us wanting and waiting and we might not like that sometimes but they are putting out some quality games. This has a lot of potential and who could ask for more than this . Very stoked.
It might be the pacing, I had trouble getting through the first few episodes but after that I was definitely hooked. I think Game of Thrones is right down Telltale's alley, for sure.
Because mid evil and roman periods of time is boring.
It has zombies and dragons, it's not that boring.
i wasn't in to twd initially and completely ignored fable comics..
but i got the games anyway
i do like game of thrones despite not being the biggest fan of medival settings, i prefer guns and super powers or both but because i like watching the show i will probably get this too. ttg has my faith...
This is actually just about the most natural fit imaginable. Song of Ice and Fire has an awful lot of moments where people have to make hard choices, any of which could be disastrous and often are.
Though, to be honest, I wish it were the book series and not the TV show being adapted.
To those who complained about not having enough sexual references in TWD.
Here you go, porn from telltale
As much as i love this, i feel like Telltale is going down a bad route now.
From my point of view, it seems like they are getting into the greedy, easy money, no creativity route.
Where they can just use the same formula over and over and use other companies brands.
I dont like this one bit.
What happened the the creative telltale team? that use to come up with new ideas and not just do the same stuff over and over with different themes.
Please stop this, and invent something new, that would be great.
Yeah, how dare Telltale keep making great games off of popular properties. smh
Whatever they need to do to build their company is fine by me. Why wouldnt they stick with what works for awhile? The success will make them able to do other things Im sure.
Hmm, is it going to be based on the show or the books? I would guess the books since they have a lot more meat and the characters are a bit more, shall we say "complicated." And by that I mean less likable.
Are you kidding? This is basically a perfect fit for them. It's only 'greedy' and 'easy money' if they phone it in and hope the license makes a bad game sell; if they take it seriously and do it justice, as they have with Walking Dead and apparently have with Fables, this is nothing but good news.
TTG was always using other companies brands. Did TTG invent Sam & Max? No, Steve Purcell did. Did TTG invent Monkey Island? No LucasArts did (back when they were cool (and named Lucasfilm Games)). Did TTG invent Back To The Future? No, Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale did. Did TTG invent Jurassic Park? No, Michael Crichton did. Did TTG invent Law & Order? No, Dick Wolf did. Did TTG invent Wallace & Gromit? No, Nick Park did.
So actually they don't change anything. They buy interesting IP and tell own stories in an existing universe. The stories themselves are original. The setting isn't. And it will be the same for GoT. GoT-setting with an TTG-story. If the rumour is true. If it's not, it will be the same with whatever IP TTG is aquiring.
About doing the same stuff over and over. Apart from Jurassic Park, all games before TWD were "the same over and over". Classic point-and-click adventure games. Now they expanded their repertoire to the decision-making games. I don't see that as a bad thing. I imagine a new Sam & Max would be more classic-style again. Hopefully they will make one at all.
I'm with you. I almost didn't pick up The Walking Dead because I hated the TV so much, and I hadn't heard of Fables either but I pre-ordered that without question.
I've got good faith in TTG, no matter the IP they're working with. The technical improvements and stylistic experiments with The Wolf Among Us have impressed me so far, so I'm glad to see they're actively listening to feedback and not just pumping out game after game with the same setup.
...I'd still buy their games even if they pumped them out like COD games, you know, but that's not the point.
sounds too good to be true.. game of thrones from telltale would definetly be another blind preorder for me.
Game of thrones is great series both book and tv show so I hope this is true
Read the books, they are better anyway.
I would be looking forward to this. I have read all the books and am waiting GRR Martin to finish this thing. The show is good too, but has its downsides.
First of all, right now the Game of Thrones game is just a rumor and nothing else.
Second, here's the big surprise. Telltale is probably presently in an equal design stage for a whole lot of potential franchises. I'd estimate dozens of game ideas where they're trying to pitch a concept to the IP owners, could acquire the license, and so on. They can't just do that when they finish a game, their minds always have to be at work for their next project. Heck, they announced five new franchises during the run of Back to the Future.
This is all completely normal for any company and doesn't inhibit the development of present releases.
If this is true, I would be curious to see who the protagonist would be, what the story would be, when it takes place, etc.
I really hope they take a page from TWD and try to develop their own story with their own characters, or else minor characters from the main storyline, with the larger plot of Song of Ice and Fire as a backdrop. To a far greater extent than either TWaU or TWD, the scale of Westeros and the sheer number of characters and depth of characterization lends itself delightfully to a team of talented writers who want to tell their own story in an established world.
If it were based on the show, I would be a bit concerned about HBO demanding they randomly show some tits every episode.

This is very true. It's the nature of the video game industry, especially when you are dealing with licensed games. Those pitches require prototypes (The Walking Dead started out as a zombie prototype made under Telltale's pilot program). There are also a lot of pitches by Telltale that don't get made into games (probably the most well known of which is Scott Pilgrim).
Also, it's true that development of one game doesn't have any impact on any of the other releases, since they're handled by different teams. Telltale has stated in the past that once a project is greenlit, a small team with only a handful of people is on that project. Then once it moves into full production after it's been announced, the team gets larger so that it can get the game finished. This game is just a rumor now, and hasn't even been announced. If it is true that Telltale is making a Game of Thrones series, the team is likely still very small since it hasn't even gone into announcement stage, let alone release stage.
If this is true i'm so hyped !! I love Game of Thrones and i bet TTG can make an excelent game of it . I hope we play with Stark family , probably would be very different from what we've seen before. Maybe we get to play with various characters ?
well , I hope they release it after TWAU ( if the rumor is true )
