I have to commend you for being extremely detailed and thoughtful in your post. Anyways, I agree about katanas not being your go to weapon. Ka… moretanas were designed for slashing at crucial arteries, not slicing through people, or bones like they are depicted in many anime and movies today. What's worse about it is over a short period of time in use, it will inevitably need to be maintained and resharpened for it to be fully combat effective again. Don't get me wrong, I love katanas as much as the next person, but they're just ineffective during the apocalypse.

Yes, but you do realize TV can fake things right? Anyway,a Katana can chop through bone inside a living human, but after a human dies the bone dries out and becomes much more hard and durable, something a Katana could not chop through. In other words, a TV show about zombies and other impossible things lied to you lol, that's a big surprise . Its a pity though as they are much cooler than weapons that actually work

You are much more likely to be bitten when slicing into a zombie when your blade breaks in two and they collapse upon you. This is not a last resort weapon, it's a weapon that's going to get yourself killed. If you still are skeptical then watch this video with a real Katana trying to cut through bone. Probably a Fire Axe. That thing has more reach than a machete, but I'd practice trying to hit the same spot and trees and such for awhile to make sure I had it down. As for who I'd go with? Luke. He has a machete of his own, so he can take the (closer) close up kills, and he's a pretty awesome person who I don't think would leave me behind if he thought I could be saved.

TV is well known for having impossible things happen, like a Katana slicing through bone. On the other hand the OP has shown multiple times that the Katana could not cut through bone. If you can provide some evidence like a video(Of an actual person, not some fictional character fighting people with zombie makeup) of someone cutting through bone with a Katana then you have a good reason to think the OP is wrong.
