Hardest Choice in Season 1?

edited February 2014 in The Walking Dead

Just wondering what you feel is the single hardest choice in Season 1. For me it is dropping or pulling up Ben. I still can't settle how I feel about that one.

  • My weapon of choice in episode 3 :D

  • The vote for whether Ben stays or goes. At that point in the game, I had clearly seen that Ben was worthless and I'd hitched my wagon to Kenny's judgment up to that point so it seemed like an easy decision... Then Clementine had to speak and muck everything up. Took almost all my time, finally decided that keeping Clementine happy was for the best and voted to keep Ben around.

Then I dropped Ben's ass down the bell tower and contradicted everything I had just decided, lollllll. The indecision in which I play with entertains me so.

  • Tsk, monkey wrench, Bioshock-style. Obviously.

My weapon of choice in episode 3

  • Meat Locker, With the Choice of Shooting Lee or not a close second

  • I didn't have much trouble with the meat locker one. Shooting Lee was tough to decide at the time but I've never regretted my choice since. Definitively see how those two could give some pause though.

Yeah meat locker was the hardest, shooting lee was sad but i rather see him resting in peace than as a walker

  • I stayed neutral during the voting since I didn't want to discuss it while the walkers were on the way.

  • mine was wether to drop ben's panzy ass in the tower or let that walking bad luck charm continue jinxing the group's very near future

  • Poor ben, he was wrong but he kept the bandits away, if it wasn't for him bandits could have killed everyone in the motor inn and do who knows what to clem and duck, ben deserves better

  • I scratched my head for a bit on whether or not to bring Clem to Crawford.

And the station-wagon choice had me staring guiltily at the screen for a while.

Don't get me Wrong I really didn't have a hard time making my choices but these 2 are the ones that made me think about it the most ,With the MeatLocker I ended up killing Larry because I couldn't risk my life and Clementine's jus to protect him, And I just told Clementine to leave me, I figured it was gonna be better for her to just remember Lee saying goodbye than her pulling a bullet on my head, Lee was gone either Way so I thought about what was best for her

  • The meat locker is a clear winner for me. It took me almost all of the timer to make my decision, and even then I only made it simply because the timer was about to run out. I helped Kenny make sure Larry didn't come back. I have no idea how long it would have taken me to choose if there wasn't a timer, or even if I still would have helped Kenny.

  • If Clementine weren't around for the meat locker part than I'd feel better about killing Larry and the dairy farmers. Ben wasn't a hard choice considering Ben sacrifices himself and Clem understands. Between Kenny and Lilly? Lilly is a terrible character, I don't care how fucking pissed off you get, you don't kill someone for insulting you, especially in a zombie apocalypse where good people don't come common. Kenny's story is sad and noble. Lilly I left on the side of the road.

  • I have to agree with everyone here, in the meatlocker scene, i had to spend so much time thinking that i actually paused the game and started walking around my living room thinking, until i finally decided to help Lilly. It just felt wrong to kill him out of doubt.

  • Aye, the meatlocker scene. I remember when the choice came up, I was 100% on the fence on the choice, but given how much of dick Kenny had been throughout the episode I decided to side with Lilly. It seems somewhat illogical, but I really couldnt make heads or tails of it without making it personal, so adding that factor led me to help Lilly. Probably the best choice in the game I think because it was the only one where I really couldnt decide.

As for the Ben choice, I did the opposite sos4prez lol. Ben was too much of an idiot, so I voted we abandon him and I wasnt going to let Clem's naive feelings cloud my judgement. BUT, I wasnt going to just let him die, sometimes a man has to step up and survive on his own, but in that moment, his life was in my hands, so I saved him so he would have a chance to survive on his own.

  • For me, it was whether to leave Lee behind or get Clem to shoot him. Such an emotional scene. Also, whether to help Larry or help Kenny.

  • It's not like you knew how Clem was going to take the Ben thing when making the choice.

If Clementine weren't around for the meat locker part than I'd feel better about killing Larry and the dairy farmers. Ben wasn't a hard choice

  • Yeah the timers are a powerful addition to the decision making mechanic.

Probably the car. In the end, I said that we should take the supplies, but it took me a really long time to come to that decision. Besides that, probably saving Carley or Doug in Episode 1. Most of my choices were very emotional "in the moment" kind of decisions. I immediately decided to help Kenny because I wasn't going to risk someone's life trying to revive someone in the middle of a serious heart attack. Especially not the guy who tried to KILL Lee in Episode 1. Leaving Lilly was also fairly immediate, and I even said that she deserved whatever happened to her to The Stranger. Saving Ben was also an easy choice for me. I wasn't going to let anyone die.... I guess with the exception of Larry and Lilly.

Monkey Wrench, Spike Remover or Wrench.

  • Wasn't the third one a spanner?

  • I believe that my hardest was to either shoot Lee or leave him there I was crying even thinking of what the choice would be it so sad to see somebody die that has the greatest friendship and honor to always take care of each other no matter what happens. Clemantine and Lee took that chance to spend time with each other no matter what obstacle came there way. Miss Lee already posting my first comment on telltale community hope you guys like the comment and hit the like button would be nice.

  • Deciding whether or not to take Clem with me to Crawford. On one hand, the game has been VERY clear that Crawford is pretty much the WD equivalent of Nazi-era Berlin, but on the other, leaving Clem behind with no one to protect her except a comatose man on the brink of death doesn't seem advisable either. The Stranger had serious balls to call me out on that one. If the house had suddenly been raided by walkers with Clem inside while the rest of us were in Crawford, would he have sung a different tune?

Nah, he's too much of an asshole.

  • Taking the food from the car and shooting Lee :/

  • Same.

  • Taking food or not was hard... Shooting Lee was hard. But killing Larry was easy... I dropped Ben the first time but regretted it later as I kinda backed him against Lilly all though she shot my fav caryl :( ( I Hope she survived!)

  • On the contrary. Clementine understands why Ben sacrificed himself after he's died as long as you tell her the true story. As a big fan of the series, I've kept track of character's reactions to your choices.

  • Except you can just press ESC and then resume the game when you want.

    Maybe you consider that cheating?

  • I hope you're including 400 Days, so I'll have to say whether or not to Shel and Becca should stay with the group or take off. On the one hand, you have a guy who's deciding to kill someone because they stole something but also holds together a team, on the other hand, being away from that specific craziness and what could happen afterwards seemed like a better choice, especially since the motorhome is at least defensible and Shel had a gun. I guess it doesn't sound that hard after all, but most of the other conflicts had clear solutions as far as I could tell.

The meatlocker was an easy choice given the obvious problem of how Larry was probably going to turn, but it was too bad that there was no attempt made to verify whether or not he was actually deceased before Kenny self-righteously stepped in.

  • same here man i let her decied and she left lee both times

For me, it was whether to leave Lee behind or get Clem to shoot him. Such an emotional scene. Also, whether to help Larry or help Kenny.

  • I found it hard to chose to kill larry or try to save him... I found it really hard to hold Lily back.

  • Yes, she does, but you don't know that when you're making the choice.

  • Staying or leaving in Shel's story was one of the easier ones for me. Stephanie completely betrayed them by stealing things they need to survive.

  • Giving Irene the gun or not. Second choice would probably be trying to save Larry or help Kenny kill him.

True, it was a bad choice by Stephanie, but then it's not like she ate the food (presumably) so at least people could get back what was theirs. I don't see that as punishable by death, though. Pretty extreme, and indicative of future extremism by Roman if someone else screwed up.

When I decided to have Shel do as Roman required, I really thought I'd be able to hear what Stephanie had to say for herself, but unfortunately that didn't happen, and I felt pretty bad that there was no chance for it to even happen. Maybe Roman just didn't like how the previous problem with Roberto turned out, and so he felt he had to prove something to everyone else, or even just himself (as in, only killing someone who's a risk can really solve a the problem at hand)? I'm not surprised he was found dead in Season 2, Episode 1.

  • Shooting Lee, should save ben, should kill brothers, shoot the kid, who choose to save. every choice for me was hard that why i enjoyed the game every season offer big decisions so hard to pick

  • Im surprised people had a hard time deciding to take food from the car, to me it was pretty obvious. The car was ABANDONED, there was no doubt to me that the people that left it werent coming back. The door was wide open with the keys in the ignition so the thing is sounding off in the woods like its a dinner bell and shining brightly in the night. I mean, if the door was at least CLOSED I might have considered not taking the food, but with the way it was, the people were either dead, or so goddamn stupid they pretty much deserve to get robbed. Really, the stranger should have been complimented by me taking the food by virtue of me assuming the owner of the car wasnt a complete idiot.

The only thing that really factored into that decision at the time was whether or not I just wanted to spite Kenny even though I agreed with him (we had a poor relationship). But I wasnt going to let his feelings have any bearing on my decision, so I took the food.

  • That's just not fair. It was obvious that the owner of the car was nearby and planning on returning shortly considering the state it was left in.
