Ben. Savior or Killer?
If Ben never gave the bandits supplies in episode 3 don't you think they would be screwed? They're were over 20 bandits that can easily surround the motel and starve you out or kill the group. But still he prevented people from dieing by keeping them off their backs. Obviously they would run out of supplies but he should have at least told them so that they could leave before the bandits attacked. However they all kind of got screwed anyway. Honestly I don't think its realistic that the group could have killed all the bandits so don't be all "Lee is a beast and could have killed them all." However Ben probably holds the record for person who indirectly caused the most deaths since he didn't tell them and they were caught unawares So here are the victims of Ben's mistake:
Lee(they would have never got to Savannah and Lee would have never got bit)
Possibly Lilly(if shes alive or not is unknown.)
Possibly Kenny(if hes alive or not is unknown)
Duck(Bit in the raid)
Katjaa(Suicide at loss of son)
Chuck(Would have never met the group and could have survived longer)
Omid & Christa(Would have never met the group and could have survived longer. Christa's status is currently unknown)
Vernon & Brie (same reason as Chuck & Omid & Christa.)
Doug/Carly (paranoid Lilly kills one of them thinking Carley stole supplies and Doug sacrificed himself while it was actually Ben)
So do you think Ben is a savior? In the long run Clementine, Kenny, Lilly might have died at the motel, and Chuck, Omid, Christa, Vernon & Brie might have died faster without Lee's group. So he prolonged the lives of 9 people but ended up killing MAYBE 11 people. Yes I know there's a lot of Ben haters out there but maybe you might appreciate how unique he was. Yes he killed so many people without touching them but he made the game interesting. Do you really want to spend all game at a motel shooting bandits?
Comments
I approve this.
Simple, Ben did both really, If he had told the others he would have saved many lives but he didnt so many people died because of his actions. Clem is still alive though so you have to wonder if she would be without Ben trading
He got a lot of people killed but, he also saved a lot of people
What if he didn't make that deal with the bandits? The bandits would attack, and Kenny most likely hadn't fixed the RV yet, so what then? They'd have to go on foot? Where there's lots of walkers and other bandits? The group would be brutally fucked.
Really, the only people he did get killed was Doug/Carly, Katjaa, and Duck. The rest was on them, such as The Stranger kidnapping Clem: Had he not have done that, Kenny may have lived (assuming that he died) and Lee would be alive.
Ben. savior or killer?
How about fucking shitbird?
Aha oopps I forgot Doug and Carly Better edit that.
He ran and left clem to die even if i accept these findings that's unforgivable. Took object out of door and let walkers in that's so stupid not possible. Gave supplies to the bandits but still accepted food over kids then lied and got someone shot. One job mind clem lost her then boat then chooses tell kenny at that moment surely true evil comes natural without trying never forgive him for kenny that man was hero
Whether or not the deal was the correct thing to do for the group is irrelevant. He made the decision without consulting the group or even telling them after the fact. The result was an unprepared group and massive arguments and paranoia.
The correct thing to do was to defer the decision to Kenny or Lilly. So the group could either run, fight or deal on their own terms.
But we only played the fake version of the game...this is what realy happened!
i think ben give them supplies because he think its good for group but he think wrong!!!!
He also got Chuck and Brie killed. If he had protected Clementine instead of running away Chuck wouldn't have to sacrifice himself to save her. Likewise, if he hadn't removed the hatchet from the door Brie wouldn't have been killed trying to keep the door closed.

Yeah, I don't blame him for initially starting the deal. I blame him for thinking that keeping it secret could possibly turn out well.
Ther are allways going to exist Kenny haters, Ben haters, Lilly haters such as there will allways exist supporters for each of them...
I actually agree with this post and everything said in it, Ben did that but perhaps manny others would do the same, Ben was a kid he didn't had the psychologcal maturity to think about saving Clem as sacrifice himself, people usually don't despite what anyone says...
If anyone was surrounded by awlkers and would choose to run and certain safety or tu safe someone else and 50% of dying peiple would run, unless it was a really loved person... SO dispite obviously not approving Ben running I understand...
As you can see Kenny and Lilly also only save Lee in Starved for help if you side with thme in the "kill or not kill Larry", that's how the world work...
Like you wouldn't try to save your own ass? Listen guys what Ben did was inexcusable but all humans have the same Modus Operandi (That's Latin for mode of operation) we all want to survive. We also have the flight or fight response and since Ben was unarmed he ran. You guys can go on about how humans are different from other animals, but at the end of the day we all want to survive no matter what.
What i do i'm no hero compare myself more with joel(last of us) any potential threat to clem will be killed and after he left her to die it's game over for him. Did Kenny run when ben was in same situation as clem NO he ran towards the walkers and try save person who ruined everything in his life a true hero and feel kenny true hero of game always honest never lied only person i would of trusted
Well, Chuck saved Clem, but that isn't why he sacrificed himself. He did it to attempt to drive the walkers away (because if someone wasn't there to distract them, they may would have been cornered at the mansion). So we can't put all the blame on Ben for that.
Neither really I think Ben's more less an accurate portrayal of what most people would actually be like if put into a situation like a zombie apocalypse.
I actually liked Ben. He screwed up a lot, but he was still a kid. He had the best morals and always wanted to help, just was awful at doing so. Also compare yourself to Ben. Would you be as badass as lee? You would probably be another Ben.
Also everyone had someone who has family. Lee and Clem. Omid and Christa. And Kenny had his family for a while. You can't blame him for getting one of his friends back by giving the bandits supplies. He also prolonged the bandit attack.
Also if you dropped Ben you are like Crawford. You killed the weak off when you had a chance, just like them.
I will debate anyone on this.
And also, this:
Understand me when I say that any benefits Ben unintentionally caused are far outweighed by the mistakes he knowingly makes.
Sure, he told the group that everyone is infected. But isn't that mere common courtesy as opposed to being a savior?
On the flip side Carley got killed because he was too afraid to confess, Clem almost got eaten due to his cowardice and Chuck ended up dying, Brie gets killed because he's too far up his own ass to see things clearly.
Ben may have unknowingly helped Lee's group, but his cowardly nature caused such wanton destruction that dropping him in Crawford was the only way I could come to terms with the people he had put in danger and gotten killed.
People say ben got chuck killed but wouldn't it have been technically Molly for ringing the bell yeah ben ran away but Molly was the one who attracted the walkers
Wow! I never knew that happened. Thanks for that Ben definitely redeemed himself!
BUt people are not rational or objective when they talk (most of the times) they just want everyone to hate the charatchers they hate and love the charatchers they love... It's sad but true...
Thanks to everyone who has writ on or will write on this post because your opinions are great! You all state amazing supportive points on why or why not Ben is a savior or killer and I just wanted to post this because I appreciate the good answers you have contributed!
