What is your opinion of Facebook?

I think it's a great way to advertise, if you own and run a business, and you are looking to attract customers.
And it can be a good way of staying informed, like following certain news broadcasts, like NBC Nightly News, BBC World News, and etc.

And it's also a great way of collecting a bunch of acquaintances.
Though it is foolish to think of them as real friends.
In fact, most people in today's world do not become real friends.
Some might become good acquaintances, knowing quite a bit about each other, but very few actually become genuine friends.

Other than that, I think Facebook is a giant waste of time.

Comments

  • It's for old people.

  • I've deleted mine. It's mostly an ego booster for some people with their photos and you can rarely get good discussions going. Sure, it's alright for contacting long lost relatives or old friends, but other than that, it's not really worth the time.

  • I don't really post anything on it. (My last post was around May or so last year, I dunno). I mostly use it to just keep up with friends, or talk to people.

  • I rarely find reason to use it. I used it once for a voice chat while I was playing a game with a friend, but I just use Skype now. I occasionally leave a post, but other than that I barely check my account.

  • It's useless, I barely use it.

  • My whole family is on it, so I find it good to keep up with birthdays, weddings, births of babies, etc. I usually only use it myself to post pictures of my trips.

  • Its a lie, people put up what they want you to see.. not what actually happens in their lives. I just use it for group chats/messaging with friends to organise meetups and just browsing through it every now and then. Most of my photos are what other people tag me in, not actually what I have uploaded.

  • It's only good for funny videos

  • It's cool, I dunno why it gets bashed all the time.

  • I don't know, it's the same as any social network site.

  • Hate it, hate everything about it, was forced into making an account because my parents made me.

  • I honestly enjoy it, it's addictive but it keeps me in contact with my friends, it helps me gain information if I've missed something in Class or have a question about one of my Subjects but I can't ask my teacher about it cause it's Friday night, plus it's a pretty efficient way to make plans with friends when wanting to go the movies, you can share videos and share your secrets with your friends, ones that you find too difficult to say to anyone in person.

It also has some good games I've enjoyed, although most of them I've gotten tired of.

Also I don't think it's even close to a fair statement to say most people in the world aren't genuine friends, unless you've got evidence to back up the subjective term of a genuine friend and how many fit your perspective of what a genuine friend is, then I don't think it's right to make such statements.

I've quit Facebook. Between the data mining, political clickbait and annoying "friends" I haven't seen in years, there was really no point.

If I want to get in contact with you, I'll call or text. Facebook is just redundant to me

I have a account that i never use to post stuff, i only use it to follow some local businesses and some gaming related things that only get posted on Facebook (updates for Anno 2205) or to sometime read comments on the Telltale pages.

The last wall post i made on there was August 2012 and that was only to share some photos with someone.

  • I have an account but I don't really post anything, i'll just check what other people do.

  • I have an account but I almost never go on it because it's pretty boring.

    It needs to be nonexistent.

I have mixed feeling about Facebook. Facebook is a good way to connect with people you haven't seen in years but I hate seeing seeing stupid shit "Like this picture if you want to bring good luck in your life or Like this picture if you would save god"

  • I only have one because my university has it's own group where they post test examples.
I would rather give people my number than friend them on FB tbh.

As I said in the post most people are just interested in what they can get, and they measure you by what they can take from you.
So in reality to most people, you're only worth what you can offer!
Most people will befriend you with the idea of: "What can you do for me?", or, "How can I benefit from being your friend?"

So if you give your number to someone, and they call you, feel lucky.
But at the same time, be wary of the people who call only when they need something.
And if you do encounter those people, my advice would be to do nothing for them, unless you're getting something out of it as well.

I'm ok with it. But it does get annoying when one of your friends spams you with fucking inspirational quote after inspirational quote. Good thing there's a feature that blocks it.

But other than that, I just have a "meh" feeling about it. It's there and if it ain't screwin' with me then I'm good.

    I agree!
That's why you should take everything, whether it be on Facebook, or in the real-world, with a grain of salt.
Question everything you initially hear, until you know it is true.

If you should ever decide to post something on facebook, be VERY CAREFUL what it is.
    Give it some SERIOUS thought!
Because one bad post can hurt your reputation, depending on what it is.

I would steer way clear of anything that is political in nature.
People unfriend people due to political posts all the time!
Politics divides people, so don't do it.
If a friend posts something political, and you don't agree with it, just let it go, don't debate with them about it.
    It's NOT worth it!

And if your religious, I would say it is alright to post stuff like that, but do it VERY sparingly.
Religion is a very sensitive issue, and given all the acts of aggression carried out in the middle-east, as well as the bad things being done in organised religion, it is easy to see why.

And if you're at a party, or especially a bar, definitely steer clear of both topics all together!

  • Never used it, or twitter for that matter. It's just another social site that will be replaced down the line by something claiming to be bigger and better.

  • Personally, most of the friends that I have on Facebook only invite me to parties that are held at bars, but other than that I do not see nor hear from them. So obviously they don't want much to do with me! With that said sometimes I honestly wonder why they even bother to invite me to bar gigs in the first place? Due to some comments from some of the people that I see at these gigs, sometimes I wonder if maybe they just want to keep me around so they have something to joke about, in other words have me there for their entertainment.

  • pedo bait.

On a serious note, I have an account that I never really use.

Only if I were to post pictures or to update my classmates in our private group.

  • Facebook is how you let everyone in the entire world know your personal information, forever. Its how sex offenders find your children. I have a low opinion of facebook.

  • I'm happy for it. I use facebook to socialize with friends everyday. I've also reconnected with family on it.

  • I'm certainly glad it's there. I don't own a smartphone, so Facebook is one of the ways how I connect with my friends every day. Other than that? It's pretty meh.
