My Review about the game

I have to say that I am DISAPOINTED with this new saga of Monkey Island, the game that to me, is to be catalogued as the best in history. First of all I dont like the the fact that it is divided in five episodes. At least the Sam and Max version is with different stories every episode. It is cruel having to wait for the following month. I think all of the fans that are playing this game want to finish all the chapters just because they want to know the end and because it is MI.
But the game has lost the pirate spirit that Monkey Island had up to MI 3, or maybe 4 if you want. The graphics dont help with a different Guybrush, and the story is no good. I miss that pirate times with Monkey Island, I certainly DO NOT like this version. Actually the only MI thing in this game is the name of Guybrush Threepwood and the music.
And it is difficult to move the character with that new systrem. I just want to point and click or as if MI3 or with the instructions.

Considering the fact that this has been posted multiple times, I must agree.

Anything you like about the game? Seriously how can you tell the story is no good?

And you don't like it because is episodic? just wait 5 month and play it when it's finished...

Because I do not like it. Why should I have to like it? because you say so?

Maybe you should just take it on it's own, without all the baggage. I thought, if nothing else, the game reeked of pirate spirit. I don't know though, last month I had never heard of MI. It's probably hard for you to seperate the two. I loved it though. Very cinematic, which as huge film fan, I love.

Tottaly agree. Megaledeth stop comparing the two and just appreciate the effort that telltales made to make this classic game return.

Firstly we don't really know if the story is good or not, since we play the fist episode. But from what i saw from the first episode the story seems interesting, i am rather curious to see the following episodes.

So spoiler aside tell us why you think the story "lost" the spirit of MI.

I'd like to adress another complaint the person who originally started this topic had. As a first time PC gamer, I find the episode thing strange. I kind of like it. You know how much fun it is to be waiting for something and to finally get it. I dig that part of it. Someone, somewhere, isn't going to make it to all five episodes. What if I'm wrongly accused of murder and go to jail? What if I'm pitching a baseball with my ten year old and have a heart attack? My last words just might be......son...you must.....finish.....Monkey....Island..(croak). I think I'll get a check up next week.

You should look for a real medical treatment. I know someone named De Singe do you want to call him for you?

I am not going nowhere until i finished TOMI. I will take it to the other word with me if i have to...

Well then I DO NOT LIKE the story of the FIRST EPISODE. I have to tell you that now we know what the story is about, it has been introduced in the first chapter as always, or you want to me to tell you the story? By the way all MI the parts of each MI have been espectacular, this is not the case.

I am wrong because I dont like it? come on people! be adult!!!!!!!!!!. I have the right to dislike it.This MI doesnt follow the line of the others MI, a pitty. I think they should make a poll about if the game is what fans had been expected.

I agree with this; Just treat it as a spin-off. It is, after all, 'tales of' as opposed to 'Monkey island 5'. These are really supposed to be side-stories set in the same world with the same characters. Like all spinoffs they employ a bit of artistic license, which I think works well enough.

There were plenty of aspects I didn't like about ToMI, but I am relatively happy to let them slide because Lucas Arts are responsible for maintaining the series proper and staying true to the originals. Telltale are just here to make entertaining games -- almost like fan games in a sense.

Ok you have any right to dislike the game... seriously I am not going to argue with you anymore. Ok you hate the story. Hate whatever is you that is going to loose by not playing it. If you want the original i suggest you buy the Special edition from lucast art.

Of coarse you have the right to dislike it. I just don't really get it. It's a good game. It might not be what you wanted it to be but there is no denying that the game designers made a good first episode. I'm going to bring a movie anology to the table. You might not like mob movies. That might not be your cup of tea. How can you deny that Goodfellas is a great film? I just don't think your judging it on it's own merits. I've never heard anyone play the guitar like Jimi Hendrix, but damn that Stevie Ray Vaughn is pretty good! Do you see where I'm going here?

TOMI-E1 is a good adventure but it can be dissapointing if you compare it to the first two almost perfect Monkey Island games. If you lower your expectations or are just amazed that Guybrush is back then it doesn't hurt this much. Then you might also overlook the soso story, varying riddle quality, non pleasing steering methods, that there are no localised subtitles, no orchestral sound like in MI3, for a 3d game not this much detail, aspects which for sure are also time&budget related. I'm quite sure you'll notice this when some time has passed and you're looking at it in a retrospective.

Nevertheless i did enjoy it and am looking forward to episode 2! :O)

Didn't Grossman in an interview say that in his opinion part three is the best?!

The basic story of Monkey island always was find a ship find crew and save Elaine from Le chuck with minor difference. I cant understand why it's lost its spirit in TOMI.

Its is a good game but not as a MI game. If it had been any adventure game it would be ok, but MI is MI, MI is not any game, the MI saga is the best I ve ever played. I am sorry if your brain is so limited that cant understand the fact that this first episode doesnt follow the line of the other 4. Each person can have different tastes and that is subjective.

Mmmm no! the thrid is called "the curse of monkey island" where Guybrush has to release Elaine from the curse LeChuck put in the ring. In this game I supposed that the Secret was the fun park of Big whoop, but then it put: reveal the "real of monkey island" put me into doubts, so you are the one who doesnt know much about monkey island.

Ok please stop arguing with people about monkey island since you dont have a clue. The secret was suppose to be revealed in the third game but because Ron Gilbert left it wasn't.

umm wrong. You don't know that the Godfather of Monkey Island had NOTHING, really NOTHING to do with CMI and EMI. Check www.grumpygamer.com, check Google or Bing for interviews with Ron Gilbert, search for "monkey island 3 situation". There you go.

Ohh and lemme guess one thing: you never really played SoMI or MI:LR, because then you should have noticed some faults in the "sequels". It's good that Telltale didn't take too much content from any of the past games so far. They should only use the knowledge that's represented in SoMI and MI:LR

The OP hasn't provided sufficient background or arguments to support his rant so, why do you guys even care? Letting these sort of threads die is the best way to kill trolls.

These kind of people won't stop no matter how reasonable your counter arguments might be, they feed on our arguing and their only goal is to sow confrontation. Just don't feed the troll.

I know, but the MI3 is awesome anyway, that means that an awesome nre version can be made.

Wrong guess, I played all the MI many times and for sure that before you were born.
Most of you are so childish that cant respect and opinion so you start to insult. Insults are for MI not for the real life!. You should learn some education.

Aaaaaah! I cant believe it. Why cant you respect an opinion? this thread was made to write reviews not to argue with someone because he/she has an opinion that doesnt coincide with your ideas. By the way I made the thread with the hope that the people in charge of making the second episode read the reviews.

You can put all the reasonable arguments you want, but this is not about arguments, it s about something very subjective called tastes, like and dislikes. Suppose you dont like chocolate, I can give you a lot of arguments about why you have to like chocolate, but those arguments wont make you like it anyway. SO be adult.

Ahh so you played it before it was released. That's cool. So how was it to play the game without music, graphics and text?

Sorry that I'm a fan of the series and know a lot about it. I don't like to read a guy's opinion, which is far away from reality and not reasoned well enough. I wouldn't say by myself that this game is uber awesome, but it's really good. The jokes are nice (although I don't get all the jokes since I'm German) and the price for that game is more than justified. I couldn't say that the story sucks, because there isn't much of a story at the beginning. So I wait for my opinion about the story when I finished the last episode. Who knows how much content the other episodes will include and which original ideas are going to be part of the game (like the scary "In the meanwhile..."-scenes with LeChuck, breathtaking insult fights with swords and sabers or Jojo the monkey)
