Ahh so you played it before it was released.
Mmm no. I played The secret of monkey island, the first series, which was released in 1990. And then all the series after, I played them when they were released.

Opinions about likes and dislikes dont need arguments. I repeat: supppose you dont like chocolate, I can give you a lot of reasons and arguments about why chocolate is so cool and you wont like it anyway.Actually it catchs my attention how a lot of people here invent things through a simple phrase that means only what is written.

Indeed you are welcome to your views and if you think the game is poor then you are entitled to that opinion - however if one is to look at a poll taken by 500 forum members such as:

    http://www.telltalegames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=9855

You will see that only 4 people out of 500 selected the 'poor' categories. Statistically speaking you are in the extreme EXTREME minority so it is of no wonder that you have faced some backlash here. You also haven't really given many details on why this release is so poor to you other than a few nostalgic fuelled grumbles. The game has changed, yes, but many feel that most of the changes are good and many like myself have extreme, hey there's that word again, withdrawal symptoms and want episode 2 RIGHT NOW. :)

You know this is something that I've seen alot. I'm a salesman for Pepsi and this is a something I'm used to. I'm in a store or supermarket, just doing my job and making sure that they have everthing they need and it all looks good. At least once or twice a month someone will walk up to me and see me in my Pepsi uniform and say something like . "Oh, you work for Pepsi?", "I really hate Pepsi and I've always been a Coke lover." I never understand it. I just work there, I'm not the national spokeman. Are they hopeing I'll beg them? What do they want me to do? Should I get mad? This kind of reminds me of people doing that.

This is why TTG will read the forums and yes they will take some points aboard but they have to continue doing things as they have envisaged the whole project as the wild sway of opinions will always be there, no matter which direction they take. WOW is a good example of bad handling of opinions/feedback, all the whining has led to serious class imbalance - they used to not listen back in the (g)olden days but now a few whines here and there and they make changes leading to the now massive depopulation of realms and the game in general. That and they never really changed the dynamics of the game, it's still same old same old, sadly.

Most people really enjoyed the game, let's trust TTG to deliver, I think they will and maybe we will get many more seasons if this snowball effect in new popularity of the series continues.

Hmmm...It's kind of amusing. I don't want him/her banned. I want him/her to post more comments giving vaguely worded reasons of why this game is no good. It's kind of like being an anthropologist and studying some wierd, hater, trolling culture.

Nobody says that you have to like it.
They are just stating that in THEIR OPINION that THEY DISAGREE with you.

You ARE making your opinion heard on an open forum that can be commented on by anyone. You have an (unpopular) opinion of Tales of Monkey Island Ep1 and other people disagree with your opinion. They are perfectly allowed to state that they disagree with you, just as you are perfectly allowed to ignore them if you wish.

Now, in MY OPINION, it would be great of everyone to continue being civil, and let this thread die so I don't have to see it at the top of the forum list anymore. OK?

I dont care if my opinion is popular or not. The people here will have to learn to respect different opionions instead of insulting.

You just hate me because the first episode of the tales of MI wasnt to my expectations???? how intolerant you are!
  • edited July 2009
Woah... didn't want to get involved in this one... but guys, seriously? You can't make someone change his/her opinion by insulting them. And getting P.O'd because he didn't like the game isn't going to solve anything. I love TMI: LotSN. I think they did a great job with it, and am patiently waiting for Episode 2. But, don't kick someone in the face just because they don't agree with you.

Aaaaaah! I cant believe it. Why cant you respect an opinion? this thread was made to write reviews not to argue with someone because he/she has an opinion that doesnt coincide with your ideas. By the way I made the thread with the hope that the people in charge of making the second episode read the reviews.
    SO be adult.

People in charge of making the second episode read the reviews but your review is only telling them that you hate the story and the control without support your opinion and give strong arguments.

Ok megadeth please ignore posts that insult you in any way and don't reply to them. Your review of the game was hateful. I am not suggesting you have to like the game I am just want to know why you hate it so much. I understand how you feel, that your best game saga was ruined and blabla. So you come here to complain about it and help the series improve. But you won't archive anything by complaining that TOMI has bad story, bad control without support your complaint with good arguments.

Fair enough! I'll answer like an adult, without resorting to humor.

It's perfectly cool that you are dissatisfied with a product. What's not cool is spamming constantly and being rude about it. You're being ungentlemanly, old sport. Please make an effort to be more courteous about your opinion.

I don't know if I like it yet, I'm waiting to get it on the Wii. I'll probably like it, because I just like adventure games, I'm not even a fan, I only have one other MI game, and that's Escape from Monkey Island.

I just beat it...and I liked it. The characters' look might be slightly different, but Dominic Armato is now my vision of Threepwood, and he made me feel right at home. I'm glad to hear your voice again, Dominic!

With all games, the art direction changes depending on who is drawing the characters. Overall, it felt like I had just finished playing EFMI and was just loading up the next chapter.

Bravo to TellTale! I enjoyed it very much! I can't wait for the next episode!

The nearest thing you can do is click on his name, choose "View Public Profile", click on "User Lists" and "Add to Ignore List". It's just in other people's quotes where that won't get rid of him for you.

(Am I the only one with nearly 50 users on his ignore list, by the way? :D)

    Your opinion is wrong.

This is the opening chapter, and personally I LIKE THE EPISODIC FORMAT! Get used to it, it works and gives you something to look forward to each month.

And if you want to judge and compare it to earlier MI games, you can only fairly compare it to the opening chapters of each MI, such as the ship in MI3, or the cruddy catapult scene in MI4.

Perhaps if you'd given us an actual review, instead of just a bit of a whinge, people would be more inclined to respect your point of view.

What is it, precisely that you didn't like? What, for you, made it not like Monkey Island, since most people think it's very monkey-islandy? What was it specifically about the controls that you found problematic? What do you think you've noticed that is so bad about the game that everyone else is somehow missing?

And no, 'it wasn't exactly the same as in the previous games' is NOT a good answer to any of these questions.

Opinions are opinions, but the way you have presented it so far leaves little room for people to present opposing viewpoints since it's so difficult to see where you are coming from.

I am not rude. The ones that are rude are you that are insulting me and showing that you are childish and inmature and intolarant, and disrepectful, because you hate me just because MI5 doesnt reach my expectactions.
I will support my opinion. I dont care if you dont like it, I take it as where it comes, so I will not take into account the opinion of such disrespectful people who insult me just because I dont like the product. Actually my post wasnt targeted to you.

How about we reserve complete judgment for when we've played all the chapters, eh? Telltale always has had a history of having to get into the groove of things; I suspect although Episode 2 will be great, that they'll have fully captured the essence and feeling we're looking for by Episode 3. :) And there's no way you can say that Launch didn't have it, but how cna one chapter reach the full potential of the entire game?

Dude, calm down. Instead of replying to every nasty and immature message aimed at you do what others have asked and do a more detailed review.

Please could you explain in a little more detail why you didn't like the game? You are right, you have every right to express your opinion. I personally don't like The Dark Knight (which obviously makes one of the very small minority) and if i want to express why i don't like it then i'll back up my opinion with reasons.

    Please explain
-why you dont like the story?
-why you don't feel like the game doesn't have the mnkey island feel?

Try and let people understand your opinion. :)

Nope, i'm not just trying to make a point, i REALLY do dislike the dark knight movie.

However, just because it wasn't my cup of tea doesn't mean i'm going to go to a dark knight forum and say 'it doesn't have batman feel' or 'the story is stupid'

And believe me, i've tried to like the dark knight, i've literally rewatched it about 8 times but i reallly have to accept that i got hyped for a film that wasn't for me.

Oh, but if i wanted to start a flame war right here then i would say...

I love how people have labelled him a troll just because he posted a badly worded and worthless criticism about the game which he's posted a couple of times. He may not have much of a clue but it he was really here to troll he could be doing it a lot... better.

I just think that he's someone that doesn't have any clue how to present his points of view, and if I can say something that might help out then that's all good as far as I'm concerned.

But when you REALLY think about it, Batman & Robin is the best Batman film. AMIRITE?

Batman and robin may be the worst and most disrespectful intepretation of batman but i'm not going to compare everything that comes after it to that.

I'm a massive fan of batman begins and thought this reboot had lots of potential but i'm really don't like where they are taking the series with the exessive amount realism.

I'm sick of reality, i go to films to escape reality. Although batman has the most potential to work in a realistic tone i just don't really buy it anymore.

In batman begins i believed that batman could exist. Maybe this is because of the great care that went into showing how he developed from young bruce to batman. However, with the dark knight i felt like the film couldn't decide whether it wanted to be a film centered in realism or the next big action packed blockbuster. Everything was so over-blown with what was happening that i couldn't believe that it could happen in reality yet at the same time everything from the comics was manipulated to be so darn nitty-gritty and realistic that i couldn't enjoy it from a fantasy point of view.

But what truely ruined it was that although heath ledger did a fantastic perfomance, i truely didn't like this interpretation of the joker.

The film sounded like heaven on paper but it just wasn't my bag, baby...

Sorry... i'm going into a rant about batman on a monkey island forum
