Classic personally. PBC used to play it all the time. It spawned a Sequel called Zulu Dawn and later a TV Mini Series called Shaka Zulu about the man who founded the Zulu Empire. In my opinion Shaka Zulu blows The Walking Dead TV right out of the water. Zulu Dawn was a huge disappointment though, it was a bad choice to make it context and the story just didn't make a good movie.
I assume we're distinguishing favorite from greatest? There are tons of movies I find artistically amazing yet bore me to tears cough Tarkovsky cough But here are some movies I can watch over and over again. Taxi Driver is my clear favorite the rest are somewhat out of order.
Taxi Driver - Martin Scorsese
Hour of the Wolf - Ingmar Bergman
Before the Devil Knows You're Dead - Sidney Lumnet

I just watched Space Cowboys for the first time due to this post. Thank you for the nudge, I wouldn't have watched it otherwise, heck, I didn't even know it existed . Independence Day still has to be one of my favorite 'space / Sci Fi' films though. How do you guys think it compares to Space Cowboys?
Here are my favorite movies.
The Fugitive - 1993.

It's nice to see that Catch Me If You Can made it onto someone else's list. That plus Titanic and Wolf Of Wall Street are 3 of my favorite Leonardo DiCaprio films. Office Space is another film I really liked that I haven't seen on anyone else's list so deserves a shout out.
In no particular order:
* Memento
* Office Space
* I'm Gonna Git You Sucka
* Half Baked
* Ninja Scroll
* Fight Club
* Pulp Fiction
* Shutter Island
* Payback
* Catch Me If You Can
* Juno

lol, yep, might be a good time to watch it, given the fact the sequel is coming out soon. I know they're nothing alike, other than the fact they involve space in one way or another. For me, if I was to rate one higher , Independence Day would be my choice. But given the fact I just said they're nothing alike it's probably a mute point,
Did you ever see Light Sleeper? It was directed by the guy who wrote Taxi Driver. He's made a lot of bombs recently, but he also wrote Raging Bull, Last Temptation of Christ, and Rolling Thunder. He also directed Affliction with Nick Nolte, which I was tempted to put up here, but I already had Light Sleeper listed so.
I saw Kingdom of Heaven, & I must say I thought it was an excellent movie! Historically, it was inaccurate, two good examples being that the leper king was not a good guy like film made him out to be, and that Liam Neeson's character "Godfrey" was not Balian's father, nor did he even exist.

I remember Zulu. My history teacher had us watch it in class.

YES! Taxi Driver was originally my favorite from Scorcese, but then I saw Raging Bull and GoodFellas so they took the top 2.

The Shawshank Redemption has gotta be my absolute favorite movie of all time.
Yeah, Catch Me was a well done movie. It might be the first DiCaprio movie I've seen. Can't believe I forgot Se7en & Coming to America.
1. Kingdom of Heaven
2. Troy
3. Saving Private Ryan
4. Black Hawk Down
5. Centurion
Troy is super underrated.
It's ironic that you say you never saw Space Cowboys and then ask me how independence Day compares, because I've never seen Independence Day. Lol!

For now, Goodfellas is the #1
