It's started airing? Man, I gotta keep up with these things!

In Sweden it has on Disney XD, I have no idea about the rest of the world.

They could even make that a part of the gameplay, like the Doctor could communicate with his former self trough a hole in time in the Tardis and exchange items with each other.

    "Here, take this."
"Thanks. I'll be sure to give it back later."
"Don't bother. I just remembered who I got it from."
    "Who?"
    "..."
    "Ohhh..."

True. I saw an episode of that new K-9 show once. It was okay, not the best show but not bad. There was one funny scene though, were K-9 fell asleep and dreamt about electric sheep. That made my day :D
I'd forgotten all about that. I can stil remember the nerdrage when they unveiled the new design/voice!
  • edited January 2010
I think K9 is tied up in a rights nightmare, given that they're doing a whole separate show about him. The Sarah Jane Adventures were lucky to get him, IIRC.

I believe K9 appeared in the latest series of SJA in return for the Beeb not putting obstacles in the way of the Jetix series, although personally I think not putting it on a proper channel like BBC1 is an obstacle.

I can't say I like the new design, K-9 looks too much like that robot dog made by sony. But I can't complain about the voice though. It's still John Leeson who is providing the voice for K-9, and its okay. I miss the subtle but emotional dialog from the original though, where the word “affirmative” could be sad, heartbreaking or happy and badass.

    [Slaps you with a haddock]

If you watch nothing else, watch the new series (all four and a half seasons of them). Torchwood is optional but recommended, while the Sarah Jane Adventures is a tad childish for us grown-up types, but not bad in small doses.

I woulds say Torchwood was also a little childish in S1 (by that i mean immature). I mean, an orgasmic monster? WTF?

Children of earth was awesome though.

Agreed. They were still getting into the swing of things, so some of the stuff in it was a tad immature, but there was also some good stuff there. Series 2 saw a massive improvement in this area, the whole thing was much better planned, thought through and executed, and as a result felt much more mature.

And Children of Earth was just, as you say, simply stunning.

COE doesn't even seem like the same programme compared to the rest of the episodes. I was really surprised by it. I miss Ianto! :(

I haven't seen much of Torchwood. Could someone recommend any good episodes I should see?
  • edited January 2010
    Gladly!

From the first series, I'd recommend Ghost Machine, Out of Time and Captain Jack Harkness. From the second series, try Sleeper, To The Last Man and Adrift. And just the whole of the third 'mini' series (it's only five episodes and you can't really watch just the one).

I quite liked "Meat" and the last three episodes of series two aswell. In fact, the majority of S2 was excellent.

'tis true, that. But if you had to only watch three episodes without too much continuity, I'd say they were the best.

    I keep hearing that response.

I have yet too see all of it though.

I've heard it goes from what the heck happens next to what the heck

It's very much warrented. Ianto kicked ass in CoE, and
his death is a massive shock. Waa!

    WHAT? Go watch it immediately!

I wouldn't say that. It takes a bit to get into, but once you're in, then you'll be gripped.

Well bad luck guys, it's not Telltale who's making Doctor Who games, but they are coming.

See the last paragraph of this Dark Horizons article: http://www.darkhorizons.com/news/16606

I'm not sure what to make of it. A few sources i've read claim it's being made by Nintendo, who usually make good games, but i don't think they've ever attempted a license. Plus, the fact that it's a wii/DS exclusive probably means it'll have too much waggle for my liking.

The main difficulty up until now has been coming up with a game idea that doesn't have a shooter element seeing as The Doctor blasting aliens left and right with guns is completely out of character.

How about, and this might be a crazy idea, that you control the caracter in a story telling, but not overly action oriented gameplay, getting confronted with puzzles which you have to solve in a crazy but mostly non-violent way!
Hahaha sorry the crazy pills they gave me are making me write stupid gameplay ideas :D

You and your controversial ideas are not welcome here! Burn the Heathen!;)

But seriously, given that they said they have given deep though to the gameplay type, i wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't dissimilair to a P'n'C adventure.

one of those sources is The Sun, which often makes up most of it's stories

The info's reached The Escapist via The Sun and MCVUK as well.

I think it’s safe to say we’ll be seeing a Doctor Who adventure game without meaningless violence. But since its coming for the Wii, we maybe should worry about the meaningless waggle issue.

Let’s all pray for that BBC and Nintendo have chosen a creative and competent development team that won’t let the game turn into a mini-game filled waggle fest. Because I think the Wii is great for traditional adventure games, but many lazy developers just give up on the controls and fill them with too much stupid waggle. In fact you can on the Wii spot the competence of a developing team by their waggle factor: Meaningless waggle = lazy developer, Innovative waggle = Competent developer. Of course, time and money is also a great factor which should not be overlooked.

So, let’s for this in the new Doctor Who game: Creative and competent development team, Story and dialogue written by show writers, And voice cast from the actors of show.

well, waggle to aim and use the sonic screwdriver, that might be cool

I got Kotaku to contact Nintendo who got offical comment and then emailed me back.

Nintendo confirmed to them that their is no Doctor Who game coming to Wii or DS.

I'm feeling an overwhelming sense of Deja-Vu here.

Thanks for the info, but you aren't on Gallifreybase by any chance are you?

The team normally doesn't chime in on properties we wish we could work on, as not to set up unfair expectations. But speaking as a fan who just got started in the show this year I would make the HELL out of that trailer :)

And with the actual writers from the show. The existing adventure game series benefited from that. In fact, it's practically the only selling point to the games, other then the fact they're not awful.

Telltale, take note of the amount of interest this game would generate. This guy used up his first (and as of posting, only) post to say how much he'd like a game. And on that note, welcome.

But yeah, it would be fantastic if you guys would make such a game. You're the best people for it. Unfortunately, as the BBC have already given the license to a company making a series of adventure games, it's unlikely. Plus, the BBC would probably like them to be free to UK tax payers, which TTG's head honcho's wouldn't be too pleased with, i'd imagine. And I think organising the voice talent would be a nightmare, with Matt, Karen and arthur busy filming doctor who in the UK for 9 months of the year.

*edit* @shauntron Now watch as your comments get blown widely out of proportions in a similair fashion to the wii-toaster comment... :p

    Ehh...

While it would be awesome if Telltale got to make some Doctor Who games, it will never happen. As has already been said, someone else is making some, and that is incredibly unlikely to change. Plus, Telltale is an American company, and DW is a British show. While I wouldn't have a problem with this (Wallace & Gromit springs to mind) a lot of others would.

I don't know, most people coped with the torchwood shift, and that was WAY more americanized than the BBC would permit the games to be.

Torchwood and Doctor Who are two very different shows. Also, I see Torchwood as a standard action game, rather than an adventure.
