Argh! You beaten me by a minute...
  • edited July 2009
I was afraid that might happen to me.

Personally I would rather have it on the Nintendo DS

What would you do with the top screen in NDS? Flashing random quotes from chick-flick movies?
  • edited July 2009
I dunno... maybe have the screen swap out and have your inventory?

have like a imovie_07a.jpg button in the corner of the screen.

Oh boy oh boy, already have the original MI:1 & MI:2 on ScummVM on the iPhone. This would be a nice addition! :o *contemplates*

Just bought the SE for the PC yesterday. Guess I'm buying it again for the iphone.

Arrrrrrrrrr! I fear that Lucas/ Telltale will get a lot of money from me, this month.

If I HAD an iphone, I'd definitely get it. Since I don't have one and have no plans on getting one, I won't be getting it.

Hey, iPhone version! That's cool and all, but it sure would be nice to have a Mac version to go along with that.

True, i intend to buy a macbook as my next portable computer, so i hope they´ll start to bring out mac versions of both, SoMI:SE and ToMI.

It´s about 300 MB and it includes all the sound (which was a surprise to me). Graphics are ok as well. Hope they release more adventures for the iphone.

Neat! Screenshots look pretty nice, although they lose some of their luster when presented at a resolution only slightly higher than that of the original :p

That link doesn't work for me and I've seen it a few times all over the Internet now. I'm in the UK so it keeps on redirecting me to there. When I try and search for it, nothing comes up!

Just open up itunes, search the store for the title Secret of Monkey Island. You should be able to get a hit.

You can also buy it over the iPhone, using the App Store Link and doing a search for Monkey Island. Takes a while to download though, still not finished here. It´s for sure faster if you download it via iTunes on your PC.

I'll have to do it when I get in.

It's not coming up on the website!

From the video it seems that they screwed up the steering just one more time.

Dragging the cursor all the time for sure will hurt in your fingertips after some time.

Yeah the curser is far from ideal...

Cool, but nothing something I'll buy an iPhone for when I own it for Xbox Arcade and PC already.
  • edited July 2009
Having already got the PC version I was also going to go for the XBLA one, now got this instead. 2 versions should be enough to show my support!

I know Beneath a Steel Sky is coming to the iPhone.

Well, the cursor sucks. It's hard if you need to go to the edge of the screen on the right side before scroll (e.g. 3 pirates in SCUMM bar). And taking the fish was excruciating. I always have to select verbs as well, double tap doesn't seem to work.

Still, it's nice to play this on a portable device.

I hate how you have to have itunes installed to look at the listing.

Hmm... isn't it true that most iPhone and iPod user have iTunes installed anyway?

Well, I've owned an iPod for 2 or so years now, and the only reason I ever installed iTunes was to update it's firmware; I immediately uninstalled it after that and used Foobar2000's foo_dop iPod plugin which doesn't look and behave like an online webshop in a Mac browser on crack running on a Windows machine.

It can run (at lower resolution, granted) on an iPhone, but the PC system requirements are what they are?

    What in the round world?
  • edited July 2009
I noticed the PC version has all the leader board stuff packed in if for the XBOX version..... including all the pictures and stuff of xbox buttons

Yeah, well what you do is you place the cursor on the fish first, AND THEN select the "Pick Up" Verb and quickly tap on the fish. It works, but as in the PC Version, timed puzzles are hard to do.

But its easier that way. Same with doors etc. First place the cursor on the door, and then select the Open Verb. And so on...

Yeah, I was under the impression that Scumm wasn't flexible enough to use low resolution art...They really should've included it as an option.

The iPhone version doesn't use shaders.
  • edited July 2009
Then I wish the PC version had an option not to use all the blasted shaders.

Waaah I don't have an iPhone... DS version please!

Cursor looks pretty difficult to move if the video on YouTube is anything to go by

You get used to it. Actually it works pretty good. :) Nice Port.

Well, I've downloaded the iPhone version now as well. I'll still continue to play the SE primarily on the large computer screen, since the new backgrounds look much sharper and more animated there. However, I wanted to also "have" the game on my iPhone as well. For walking a little around on Mêlée while being in the bus, solving a little puzzle here, enjoying a little dialogue there, and listening to the gorgeous rerecorded soundtrack.

The controls are OK. I think it's pretty obvious why they wanted you to be able to drag the cursor: this way you can "discover" the hotspots just like you would with the mouse, seeing the object names and the primary action on "mouse-over". And since you can move the cursor by not putting the finger exactly on the cursor (which allows you to see better where the cursor is exactly placed), tapping the screen needed to be used for executing the chosen action and not for placing the cursor to a new position.

Besides, it's only the main screen where you are dragging a cursor around. Picking verbs, inventory objects and dialogue lines is handled by direct tapping.
