It can run (at lower resolution, granted) on an iPhone, but the PC system requirements are what they are?

    What in the round world?

You design a product to run at the optimal of the specifications. For the iPhone, since the specifications are quite consistent, an optimised programme could be written. That is also why games on gaming machines are mostly optimised and could run smoothly as well.

As for PC, it is usually difficult to find two random people using the same type of PC with exactly the same specifications. So companies usually design games that are designed for second generation hardware, i.e. hardware that are about 1 to 2 year old. Even so, it is hard to suit everyone, since some treat PC as workhorse and continue hold high expectation even in a 3 to 4 year old machine. The myriad of combination in a PC could also create a problem with running software.

Hey! Don't take it too hard. The news of SoMI on iPhone was pretty much a pleasant surprise.

Actually they've been strongly hinting at it for weeks, but still.

I get all that. My point is that if they can make it for iPhone, they could have made it so the PC version can be played on less powerful machines. They didn't have to require the bells and whistles in the PC version that are absent in the iPhone version (shaders, etc.). They could have made those feature optional so that some of us with a not quite 2 year old laptop could run it.

I'm not bitter. I'm just saying. They've lost money taking this path. Maybe not enough to matter. But still.

But they didn't lose time. I bet the PC version could be run on more computers if it wasn't a sloppy port from X-Box.

Have played though a lot of the game on the iPhone now the cursor seems a lot better than I thought it would do. In fact Im glad you drasg the cursor around - it feels much more like the original.

Good job LA! (now for the rest of the games..)

The game is supposed to have voice acting, right? My game only plays the music in Special Edition.

    Updated graphics but no voice?

Sure your not playing it in classic mode?

I downloaded it as well. The control need a little time to get used to, but I think it plays fine. The puzzle with the seagull was a bit tricky though - mainly because the area where you must walk is quite small AND in the corner of the screen.
I was impressed by the fact they managed to put the Special Edition with updated music and voices AND the original version as well.

Are you playing it on an iPod Touch? There is a bug which prevents speech to be played. They should fix this soon.

Yeah, I'm playing on an iPod and it's fine. I prefer it to the PC version.

*Sigh*, that's SMI:SE on 360, Steam and iPhone for me now :( I'm too addicted to the game - even though I still prefer the old art, and I've finished it more times than I can remember, the fact that it's MONKEY ISLAND means my wallet is practically a slave to LucasArts :( Apart from anything else, I guess it's me voting for LCR:SE sometime soon :P

I wanted to finally play the 1st monkey island but i couldnt wait i just played it on scummvm on the iphone. (it looks a lot better than playing it on scummvm pc) and now im almost finished (stuck with lechuck's key nd creaky door on the ghost ship) so for me and my 5GB cap its not worth downloading 350mb for a game with slightly better graphics and sound that i've just finished playing.

But it's a good idea. Suprised its not on the main App Store page...

Why thankyou for this completely unrelated advertisement! My life is now complete! I assume that with this software I can convert Monkey Island 2 on my iPhone? *Runs to buy Cucusoft iPhone Converter Suite*

    /sarcasm

    Stupid spambots :(

For some reason when people talk their heads dont move and their mouths dont move either, this is the same in classic mode too (although they occasionally do for a split second) has anyone else had this problem?

    I had.

It never bothered me - I kind of assumed that's just how the iPhone port rolls ;)

Then again, the talking animations are played from time to time, so it may actually be a bug.

Infrequent/Mild Alcohol, Tobacco or Drug references to these
    Infrequent/Mild Profanity or Crude Humour
    Infrequent/Mild Horror/Fear Themes
    Infrequent/Mild Cartoon or Fantasy Violence
    Infrequent/Mild Mature/Suggestive Themes

Has someone sexed up the iphone version?
I'm sure most of us played it when we were...9? and I don't recall being a violent, alcoholic, chain smoking, disturbed or promiscuous child.

    Ridiculous

    Ridiculous

Anything that anyone anywhere might be even remotely offended by has to be warned on the packaging, because everyone is apparently incapable of knowing if something is right for their children or not.

I don't get what your problem is. All of these things are in the game. Note the "infrequent".

    True.
    Infrequent/Mild Profanity or Crude Humour

There are some references to profanity, but really really mild. If you are deeply offended by this, then perhaps you should not visit the internet.
    Infrequent/Mild Horror/Fear Themes

    *scratch head*
    Infrequent/Mild Cartoon or Fantasy Violence

Yup! Mild violence. But they did do the players a favour to conceal one of the deadliest violent scene,
    at the governor's mansion
    .
    Infrequent/Mild Mature/Suggestive Themes

What's the difference between this and profanity/crude humour?

You were one sick kid who was before his/her time. You will fit into the netizen membership perfectly.

    Ridiculous

    Yup!

Ah! I am so afraid right now, I could pee...

Seriously, a pixelated ghost is probably as scary as Casper.

Well, there is also a giant monkey head leading to spooky caves of lava with screaming and distorted faces engraved in the rock (not to mention the various body parts lying here and there).
