RATE Batman: The Telltale series - EP 3 - New World Order - SPOILER FREE
It might be a little too early to post this, but I have classes today, and wanted to selfishly be the first to post a first impressions thread. Same rules as always. Keep it SPOILER FREE and a bit brief if you can. Thanks!

So...Anyone who has played it know how long it was? Just curious.
The episode isn't even out yet...
It should be for Aussie's. Plus there's walkthroughs already out (supposedly). Nothing wrong with an early start.
Oh, my mistake. I live in the USA, so it's hard to tell. My bad.
So, how long was the episode?
This was... I don't even...
Holy shit.
9.9/10
(Based on SwingPoynt's playthrough!)
This is way past Wolf now.
WHAT THE FUCK. THESE LAST 20 MINUTES.
9.8/10. GREAT EPISODE.
The only reason I didn't give it 10/10 is due to some animation problems during fight scenes, but that's pretty much about it. Great plot twists that make sense, and there was some GREAT writing this episode. I also noticed how the plot is pretty consistent, not like some other Telltale games. If EP4 is as good as this episode, then Batman will be my favourite Telltale game, replacing Tales. And Tales was freaking amazing.
(watched SwingPoynt's playthrough)
batman WTF
Episode came out today in the us, I stayed up past midnight so I could download the next chapter in the series, but was not available until I woke up, I booted the game up said chapter 3 is available to download it, so I clicked it, it then took me to the store and wants to charge me $4.99. I bought season pass though.
So I backed out of game went to the store and searched the game out, sure enough it says season pass installed but still wants money for the game, wtf
I'm going to be honest, I thought this episode was a considerable letdown from the previous. The revelation of the big bad, the Leader of Arkham struck me as ... stupid. After this, I don't really have much interest in playing episodes 4 and 5, because I can't even imagine how they could make this work. It's concerning, since it directly contradicts some of their earlier statements.
There were some very good parts, minus the constant freeze frame and technical issues, most notable during the car scenes at the beginning. But all of that, to me, is overshadowed by the ending. It wasn't telegraphed, or hinted, except at the absolute last second. So far as I can tell, it's clear they did not plot out the entire story all the way through.
At best, this is a 5/10.
7,5
The story was good and it is going in an interesting direction...but as a game I'm still not impressed...The detective work was too easy, there were still frame rate issues and pointless interections...
And I didn't liked how I figured out who the main villain was, and a short time after the game revealed it to me, without giving me time to discuss it around the web...But I'm glad that it was not Jason Todd again...
And if we don't get the chance to explore a Arkhan asylum full of reaference and easter eggs in this game, I will be really disappointed....
I wish there was a spoiler talk thread so you could explain what exactly you found stupid about the revelation. To me it made a lot of sense and proved that Telltale had that planned since episode 1.
They set up this 'mysterious vilan' in episode 2. Between episode 2 and episode 3 there was this thread, Children of Arkham leader's identity, where people discussed who he might've been. And guess what, with only episode 1 and 2 information, some people figured out who he was based on small details and hints.
Well Batman is the best detective in the world...solving easy detective work will not make me feel like Batman.
I was thinking something like, if you can think of a really difficult conection you can a unlock a different story path...nothing really important, but that could add more details or even references and easter eggs...that would be cool...
10/10 best episode
This is what I expected from telltale . More playtime and more options.
Thanks
Yeah, that is cool...But now that we have more information it would be more interesting to discuss I think...
Honestly did not see that ending coming. Was hoping Harvey wouldn't go all split personality if he didn't get burned though.
Initial grade after playing it myself: 9/10, but subject to change after watching some alternate play throughs and how the choices impacted the game.
I didn't think it was as good as the last episode, but this episode had a lot of twists and turns that were just amazing, especially with the ending. Great work to the entire team on this game, it has just been incredible so far.
So it doesn't make a big difference after all except for his "look"?
It makes no difference, whatsoever.
Not entirely true, it varies to degrees. I'd elaborate a bit more, but this is a spoiler free discussion.
I was kinda worried at the start that it was going to be as good as episode 2, but once the story got going I was immediately brought back in. Glad this episode was also about an hour and a half. Id have to give it another 9/10
I only played one way, but watched someone who made choices considerably different then mine. Several key scenes retained more or less the same dialogue and characteristics. If these choices make an impact later, down the road, then I would be wrong. Until it's revealed however.
O.O.....That was intense....
I haven't played my Selina/Gordon save yet, so I don't know what are the consequences of my choices there, but man, this episode was an emotional roller-coaster. I felt both heartwarming at some scene and almost wanted to cry at some other. Definitely the best episode so far.
9,9/10, only falls short due to technological issues again, but the sheer power of the story made it worthwhile.
9.9/10 because it crashed once.
But everything else? Flawless. Loved the reveal, loved the dialogues, loved the options... I was absolutely speechless while watching the preview for the next episode.
Oh no that's awful
9/10. Best episode to date
Holy fuck that was GREAT! I was worried about the pacing since the steam achievements were dropping every 10 mins, but when I thought the episode was going to end it kept going. The only downside was the poor optimization, but even that didn't detract from an amazing experience. 9.5/10
Well, I'd give it an 8.5/10.
The story got significantly ramped up once again, definitely topping Episode 2. Big reveals, (though one I saw coming), many interesting and difficult choices, even after what we had to suffer through at the end of EP2, and interesting directions for characters in this world.
The only thing that makes this an 8 is a weird continuity error (at least in my playthrough, more on that elsewhere.), and once again, some technical issues. At one point the game crashed during one scene (No Telltale game on console for me has ever done that before, so it was really surprising), which meant I had to restart from the previous "checkpoint", though it was only a minute or two, so it's fine. Another glitch was (I'm not going to give any context here, so you won't be spoiled by this) in a train station, where I saw a significant lag in framerate and some very jumpy, jerky frames. Seems as if Telltale hasn't worked out all the kinks out of their new engine just yet.
But, if you can forget about some of those errors, this episode was GREAT. Well worth the dedication to this series, and it'll get you on your toes.
Sucks ass. Typical telltale bullshit. Season pass holder so first cant download it without paying for it a second time. They fix that now after you download it it doesnt appear so you still cant play even though it says its been downloaded. Telltale USED to be a good reliable company with quality games. Obviously those days are over. You fucked me over with Minecraft and adding extra even though season passes were already purchased. This is it. Its not about the players anymore. Its about how much money you can drag in.
That's some good salt! Thanks for the contribution!
How would I rate episode three based on my personal experience? Hmm, I will maintain the utmost composure while eloquently detailing my thoughts.
THIS EPISODE WAS FREAKING AMAZING! I WILL HOLD A GUN TO YOUR DAMN HEAD UNTIL YOU DOWNLOAD THIS SHIT AND PLAY!
This episode takes the player through many believable twists and turns, and one will leave you reeling, no doubt. The pacing kept you on your toes, but at the same time, the story never felt rushed. There were multiple difficult decisions that had to be made in this episode, and quite a few leave you feeling conflicted and shitty. Could you ask for anything more? Also, as someone who made the decision to save Harvey at the end of episode two, I never felt that I was experiencing his "B character arc." He, along with multiple other characters, were handled very well in this episode, with the ramifications of your past choices greatly influencing your interactions. If you choose to take your time throughout the episode, its run time can hit around the two-hour mark. There was one minor technical hiccup (a crash) while playing on my PS4, but otherwise, it ran smoothly and looked great. Prepare for an emotional rollercoaster, people. 9.9/10
Oh boy, what a great episode. Still need time to process it, man. This is slowly becoming one of my favourite TTG series. Definitely strong 9 out of 10.
AMAZING!!! 10/10. Best episode so far!
9/10. I'm caring for these characters more than I've ever cared for them in other Batman material. Bruce feels real and is fun to play, I want to protect Harvey with all my heart, and I'm very attached to Selina. The suspense is very good and the atmosphere is very Batman. Plus everything is keeping me incredibly interested and each episode stands well alone.
Personally I'm not the biggest fan of the twist, but that doesn't bother me too much.
Now, the whole episode to me was very underwhelming. Particularly with the plot twist of Vicki being the villain in the end. I know that some are going "omg what a twist" but what I see is just bad writing. Honestly, a better twist would be that it was his mom who was brought back to life thanks to Hugo Strange. She has no real memory besides the fact that its the Wayne's fault. The next two episodes could involve Bruce trying to stop Penguin and his mom while also discovering a more terrifying foe Which could then open up the possibility of a S2 considering you'd have Mr. Strange involved and various other facts. I see no real motivation for Vicki to be in this role and so they will probably spend episode 4 explaining it. Though, they may just go through the mindset of Bruce while imprison in Arkham Asylum. Plus, with Batman gone you'd probably see how Gotham turns out. So, the outlook of getting her motivations are actually kinda slim. As I see episode 4 being more on the impacts of him being gone and not why he is gone. While episode 5 would be about taking down the enemies and somehow Selina/Dent will be involved. They are paralleling them a little with the choices so I think how you treat them would have some impact. Particularly with asking Selina to stay with you could possibly bring about her actually being there. If you tell her to get out she probably would still be there as she doesn't let anybody tell her what to do. So either way Selina will be there with Harvey going crazy.
Besides that can we talk about that illusion of choice when it came to Harvey Dent? Many of us were stuck on the fact that we were told we might be able to redeem a villain. Seems like Dent isn't that Villain and that it is actually Selina that we can "rehabilitate". Which I am fine with but what annoys me is that Dent just becomes Two Face even without that massive trauma. There is no alluded underlying issues for Dent and it seems that before he has "done the necessary evil for the greater good". So why all of sudden is he so traumatized even without his face been jacked up? It makes no sense and it seems like they were going more for the cool factor of seeing him transform into Two Face. I guess that is why that trailer they put out shows him as Two Face instead of something more neutral as your choice would have no effect anyway.
The technical issues are still there and it is worrying how poorly optimized their engine still is.
6.5/10
How so? One thing is the plot not going in the direction you fantasized, another is it being badly written and I see no argument to why it is in your post.
Aaaaand, maybe people are going 'omg what a twist' because it is actually a good twist. You can look at Vicki's actions during the first two episodes and realise it was all there. I call that consistensy, not bad writting.
Because he was drugged with a drug that made him act on his baser impulses days ago. Apparently, the dose Vicki gave to Hill and To Harv at the debate had more prepectual effects.
You can see by the way Harvey acts that that is the case. Instead of thinking about what he says, he sometimes starts getting lost in though and sudenly loses his filters and ends up acting on his rawest impulses. At least that's what seemed to happen in that scene in the mayor's office. He starts talking about how the GCPD is useless, how Batman knows how to deal with criminals, how they need an army of vigilantes and finally how he wants to put the town under 24/7 surveilance. A gradual loss of control over his impulse; the effect of the drug.
It was the best episode yet. 10.
I think you are wrong...if you pay attention to what they say and do...Harvey is heading for redemption...if you saved him both times and were a bro and not hit on that Cat lady.
10/10 Dare I say...amazing. The Comics could learn something from TellTalegames...maybe do a comic with the TTG script.
I'm not doing it with joy, but I rate this episode 3.5/10. It really disappointed me.
First: I played it today and there are a lot of issues still. There are choices we did who weren't relevant at all (like giving Montoya's name while I didn't or Gordon calling a truce, Oswald being suddenly a dick with me) and a lot of cutten pictures, wrong montages. Many of them.
As for the story.. I don't know if it's truly the case, but I've got the feeling that Vicky Vale wasn't supposed to be the leader of the children in the first place. I felt this choice really weird. First for her character being a villain -even if I liked how the changes this far- is astonishing; she's someone who is really good in comics, got integrity when doing news and all. So I don't understand how one can have the idea to make her a villain. I'll say the same as for Oswald: why not simply create a new character when the one you make is 99,9% different from the one from the comics? It doesn't mean I don't like changes: for example, Thomas Wayne being a scum is very interesting: it changes the reason of why Batman fights the crime, it gives a new context to Batman. Here I've got the feeling the change made is meaningless.
Also I don't get why she sends us in the gare if she knows we're coming. That doesn't make sense.
Still I don't regret to play this episode and seeing how some of the writer come here talking with us even make me feel bad to rant about the episode. I'll probably be more hyped for the next episodes, who knows.
