I peed my pants from pure amazement. This is truly just shockingly beautiful and I don't even know what to, I mean, holy.....what do I.....speechless.

    Telltale.....Lucasarts...learn THIS. I mean that's....I can't....whoa momma....daddy bring home the bacon.....I mean....woof woof arf.

I don't think I can be any clearer.

    holy f**k

Speechless, that is really amazing hands down. wow.
  • edited August 2009
That's really awesome but I think they've already started and therefore won't be able to incorporate this.

EDIT: If they did that, I would seriously play $60 for it instead of $10.

    Fuck.

That guy rocks. But I probably prefer the special edition style of graphics, and I don't think controls would be any good.

    But still, this is amazing.
  • edited August 2009
    That...gorgeous.

I'd pay ridiculous amounts of money for that.
  • edited August 2009
Actually I would probably pay more than $60 for it.
  • edited August 2009
I wouldn't. Sure, backgrounds are decent but these effects wouldn't translate into 2D that well.

    It does look awesome though.
  • edited August 2009
It'd play like Sam and Max Season Two - 3D but without the need for direct control.
  • edited August 2009
It wouldn't allow the real time switching between the original and new version, which I actually really liked in SoMI SE

i wold have paid the same even for SOMI. But i agree it looks even better. But it wouldnt allow to switch back and forth between classic and special edition. I hope they make MI2 even better.

Well, it COULD but it'd be an extraordinarily large amount of work compared to the way MI:SE does it.

I already have the first release of the game. Holding back the improved version so I can look at the old one I'm replacing is daft. It's cute and all but removable if necessary.

    ^ I agree, again.

I'm not scared of 3D. I'm a huge fan of 2d, but this, this is like a wet dream. I also have the original game so I agree with PK. Heh, call me a heretic, but I'm even curious how a CMI background would look with this or if the 3D TMI Guybrush would fit this style.
  • edited August 2009
I don't care if it looks different as long as it looks good - TMI, CMI, SMI:SE. Whatever. The atmosphere is the most important part of that game anyway. While pretty for pixel art, it's not why many consider it the best adventure game ever made. The humor combined with the plot and the legitimate fear LeChuck instilled in you makes it what it is.

LeChuck still needs to be damn scary. As long as the visual and voice overs don't detract from that it will be an improvement and introduce or re-introduce a lot of people into the genre.

^ I need the guy who made this to be part of the TellTale team for the next season. Those who agree say "Har-har-har"
  • edited August 2009
Seriously...wow. The detail is fantastic on that.
  • edited August 2009
Har-arrrr.... need to change my pants!

THAT is the way 3D should be done in adventure games! Compareing to the abomination they did in MI:SE this is like gift of the gods!

Edit: !!! I ment graphics they did in ME:SE !!! the game and voice acting is FANTASTIC!

^ I love the guybrush glimpse. We need Guybrush Peepw...err...Threepwood like that.

Yeah he looks really amazing like that.

    I don't like him actually.

Yeah the sprite in my opinion is pretty...ew. I think the professional one'll be a lot better though.

In fact, since Telltale has a close working relationship with Steve Purcell, how about having the *original artist* prepare some new 2d-backgrounds for the (hopefully) next season, drawn in his own style, and then have this guy* 3d-ify them in this manner? Har-har-har, indeed!

*along with the talented team of designers at Telltale, of course ;)

Why? They're already drawn, for the original MI. They just may need a little touching up.
  • edited August 2009
Wow, I'm seriously impressed, that is absolutely incredible. And it stays true to the original design, well done!
  • edited August 2009
    Great work!

i dont know what they're trying to show with this stuff,
what they're doing is called camera mapping, and its a pretty old technology... you can do that with any image you want, its not very creative, and takes 3 clicks in a 3d app.
With this method you can only do little camera pans in the 3d scene in a unique direction, as the back of the objects isnt textured, cause the back of the objects isnt on the projected "concept art" image obviously. (you can see what i mean at 0:30 in the video, the camera cant do anything else than this movement or we'll see the trick),
the objects not being textured everywhere couldnt be moveable/holdable/rotatable, so they would be pretty much useless in a video game.
this technic is good for static shots, but if the static images already exist in 2d, why turning them into static 3D ?

now outside of the technical side, yeah, it shows that 3d can look nice with rich textures, volumetric lights and animated fire, but.. thats not new ?
all games would look better that way, and some of them even already do !

    Mr. George, is that you?

and takes 3 clicks in a 3d app.

Hardly, when the scene needs to be 3D modelled as well.
this technic is good for static shots, but if the static images already exist in 2d, why turning them into static 3D ?

It allows for some dynamic movement, zooming in slightly towards characters in conversation scenes, anything which gives the scene more life without detracting from the original 2D art.

Obviously, you're not going to be able to zoom in and swoop around 360 degrees in every scene, but that's not the point in the first place.

Whether it's "creative" or not, I don't know how you could deny that it looks good. Even Steve Purcell's mentioned it on his blog
To be honest, I'd much rather MI2:SE looks like this as opposed to SOMI:SE's art, and from what I'm hearing around the internet, I'm not alone.

    *drool* so... pretty...

And even then, the artist is given enough to work with so that they could "fill in the blanks" and finish a scene from any angle. Finish a texture here, imagine a voodoo ingredient there... it can definitely be done.
  • edited August 2009
Wow, man this looks fantastic. And a much better representation of the original than the (imo crummy looking) SE of the first game.

I think that'd be pretty awesome.

I doubt Telltale would do it for a full series, seeing as they're trying to move towards more dynamic camera angles in their games, but if the technique even appeared for just one or two scenes, I reckon it'd look really ace.
