Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom Discussion Thread - Every new dinosaur in the trailer! + Plot Summary
Welcome to Jurassic Park!
First things first:
With this thread, I want to give people the opportunity to get well and truly hyped for the much anticipated sequel to 2015's most successful movie.
A short guide to this thread:
Everyone is welcome here, from Jurassic veterans to complete newcomers. I'll help out as much as I can with question related to the franchise or anything thread-related.
News will be updated as soon as they come out, and I'll update the thread title as well. Alongside the link, I'll give a (very) brief summary of the content for all those who just want to get the gist of it (though I highly suggest reading the full article anyway). I generally only link articles made by Jurassic Outpost, as they are a very reliable and up-to-date source. Be sure to follow them on social media for the latest news!
The weekly articles are updated every Friday and are chosen randomly by me.
The entire first page of this thread is dedicated to the storage of past news and featured articles, as well as to give a summary of the cast and any promotional material. I've decided to reserve the entire first page for this in case I or anyone else has good ideas for the remaining comments.
The discussion of everything Jurassic Park/World (and not just Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom) is not only allowed, but strongly encouraged. Whatever you have on your mind regarding this franchise, post a comment about it. Please limit yourself to the Jurassic franchise, though.
General spoiler warning for any of the past movies and for any Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom promotional material. Spoiler tags are not required in this discussion (though you can, of course, use them regardless), read at your own risk.
Criticism is always welcome. If you don't like something about the thread, feel free to post a comment or contact me via PN. I'll see what I can do. (please note that I won't change anything unless you have a, in my eyes, better alternative)

Every new dinosaur in the Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom trailer!
- You’ve no doubt seen the trailer for Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom – but just what dinosaurs were on display, and what can we glean from their visual depictions?
Baryonix
"First referenced on the park map in Jurassic Park, this bipedal carnivorous dinosaur has never appeared in a Jurassic film prior. The Baryonyx is a cousin species to the Spinosaurus, and stood about 10 feet tall and 30 feet long – the real prehistoric animal likely lived off of a diet of fish, but still would have been deadly to cross paths with. InGen’s creation seems bulkier, with a shorter neck and smaller arms, but makes up for it in pure, mean, crocodilian attitude."
Brachiosaurus
"The iconic gentle giant of Jurassic Park returns in all her original glory. The most recognizable Sauropod of the franchise towers over the other animals of park, reaching heights of well over 30 feet. Brachiosaurus was absent in the fourth Jurassic film, and while it made an appearance in Jurassic Park 3, it looked quite different.
Strangely it was not part of the species list in Jurassic World, though we know previous populations existed on Isla Nublar."
Styracosaurus/Sinoceratops/?
"Blink and you’ll miss it! Did you catch the second ceratopsian to appear in a Jurassic film? It remains unclear what species this actually is, but Styracosaurus and Sinoceratops are the two most likely candidates. Unlike Triceratops, neither Styracosaurus nor Sinoceratops have been featured in a Jurassic Park film prior, nor have they ever been mentioned as a species in previous films (though Styrcaosaurus made an appearance in a early JP3 script). The real versions of these herbivores could grow up to 18-22 feet long, but were gentle giants, using their strong, sturdy cheek teeth to assist with grinding up fibrous plants.
It’s worth noting we initially heard rumors the iconic and beloved Pachyrhinosaurus was in this movie – but it is clearly not the dinosaur on display here. Don’t take our word for it, just asking any dinosaur loving three year old. Perhaps the species changed to what is likely the Sinoceratops later on – we’re eager to discover what species this is either way!"
Carnotaurus
"The Carnotaurus has long been a fan favorite of Jurassic Park fans dating back to its appearance in Michael Crichton’s ‘The Lost World’ novel. Smaller than a T-Rex, this carnivore is well known for having horns atop its head, a long lean neck, and incredibly tiny arms. Much like many of the other new dinosaurs, Carnotaurus was never known to be on Isla Nublar.
In ‘The Lost World’ novel, the Carnotaurus had camouflage abilities, which were eventually used as a trait of the Indominus Rex in Jurassic World. Ironically the Carnotaurus is actually one of the DNA components of the Indominus Rex, giving the animal its horns. There has been talk that Jurassic film makers have held back incorporating this animal in past films because of Disney’s use of of it in the film ‘Dinosaur’ and as the main antagonist in its Dinosaur ride at Animal Kingdom, however it seems Jurassic has come to reclaim its namesake."
Allosaurus/Albertosaurus/Gorgosaurus/?
"The dinosaur on display above is another mystery, but we’re favoring members of Allosauridae due its long three fingered hands, even if its head more closely resembles members of the Tyrannosauridae family. For the time being, we’ll assume it’s an Allosaurus.
The Allosaurus was featured briefly as promotional material in Jurassic World, appearing briefly in an image of the Holoscape interface at the Innovation Center, but failed to appear in the flesh. However, it was never a species on Isla Nublar in Jurassic Park nor Jurassic World.
The carnivorous “different lizard” averaged 28 feet in length, though evidence suggests they could have reached lengths of over 38 feet. Experts report that Allosaurs lived in dangerous lives – many remains displayed in museums include smashed shoulder blades and broken ribs, suggesting that their interactions with others of their own species were largely aggressive. Will we see that aggression in Fallen Kingdom? It seems so."
Baby Blue
"While not entirely a new dinosaur, this depiction is brand new – we see Blue as an adorable baby Raptor. This is only the second time we have seen a juvenile Velociraptor, and baby Blue is clearly older than the hatchling in Jurassic Park. At this point its unclear how these ‘flashbacks’ fit into the movie, but we’re interested!"
Compsognathus
"Last but not least, we have the return of the Compys – first introduced in The Lost World, these small green opportunistic scavengers have been a longtime fan favorite (Just don’t tell Dieter Stark, who was eaten alive by them after falling down a hill). While Compsognathus have never been referenced as a species on Isla Nublar in any of the films, they were present in the original novel, bred to eat the dung of the many large dinosaurs around the island.
Considering the ruined state of Isla Nublar in Fallen Kingdom, these scavengers are perfect fit for the film, and we’re thrilled they’re back."
Official Plot Summary
"It’s been four years since theme park and luxury resort Jurassic World was destroyed by dinosaurs out of containment. Isla Nublar now sits abandoned by humans while the surviving dinosaurs fend for themselves in the jungles.
When the island’s dormant volcano begins roaring to life, Owen (Chris Pratt) and Claire (Bryce Dallas Howard) mount a campaign to rescue the remaining dinosaurs from this extinction-level event. Owen is driven to find Blue, his lead raptor who’s still missing in the wild, and Claire has grown a respect for these creatures she now makes her mission. Arriving on the unstable island as lava begins raining down, their expedition uncovers a conspiracy that could return our entire planet to a perilous order not seen since prehistoric times.
With all of the wonder, adventure and thrills synonymous with one of the most popular and successful series in cinema history, this all-new motion-picture event sees the return of favorite characters and dinosaurs—along with new breeds more awe-inspiring and terrifying than ever before. Welcome to Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.
Stars Pratt and Howard return alongside executive producers Steven Spielberg and Colin Trevorrow for Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. They are joined by co-stars James Cromwell, Ted Levine, Justice Smith, Geraldine Chaplin, Daniella Pineda, Toby Jones, Rafe Spall and Isabella Sermon, while BD Wong and Jeff Goldblum reprise their roles.
Directed by J.A. Bayona (The Impossible), the epic action-adventure is written by Jurassic World’s director, Trevorrow, and its co-writer, Derek Connolly. Producers Frank Marshall and Pat Crowley once again partner with Spielberg and Trevorrow in leading the filmmakers for this stunning installment. Belén Atienza joins the team as a producer."

Hurricane Clarissa, the hurricane that destroyed the facilities on Isla Sorna and the reason InGen released the remaining animals into the wild in the first place, was not the same hurricane that contributed to the destrcution of the park on Nublar. They were two seperate tropical storms that happened to both hit the two InGen owned islands at roughly the same time.
February 27, 2017
So far, all incidents in the Jurassic Park series took place during the initial release dates for the movie, with perhaps the exception of the Isla Nublar Incident of 2015, for which the date is still disputed. Jurassic Park takes place June 11/12, 1993 (the 13th as well if you include the game); The Lost World: Jurassic Park takes place May 23/24, 1997 (the San Diego Incident on the 25th) and the major events of Jurassic Park III on July 18th, 2001. Jurassic World most likely takes place on June 10, 2015; though this clashes with the wintery setting shown at the beginning of the movie. This seems to be a plothole, as Claire mentions that the I rex paddock should have been done by May, whereas other sources also state that the I rex paddock would open to the public in July and that Masrani would visit three weeks before its opening (which further reinforces June 10 as the date of the outbreak).

As a Jurassic Park fan first and a Chris Pratt fan second, I'm pretty hyped for Jurassic World 2. I don't even care what direction it goes in. I just want more dinos
Awesome! I'm excited.
Lots of comments here.
I've always been a JP fan. However I'll have to remain concerned over the new synopsis until I read what the next installment could possibly be about. I think there's eventually only so much you can do with different franchises before things begin truly going down the drain for the sake of profits and marketing or milking what's popular. Hope it turns out to be the best film yet though. Jurassic Park and Jurassic World stomped the box office so sequels are likely inevitable in order to strike more money. Might be a different director again like with JP 3. And that might be bad news. But I'm hoping these films remain adventure classics that never go extinct from the theater.
It's confirmed that it's a different director -- J.A. Bayona. Probably best known for The Orphanage and A Monster Calls.
He's great, but I'm nervous/excited to see how his style meshes with such a huge blockbuster production.
Please let this film, HAVE RAPTORS!
It will. Like, there is no way in all seven hells that it won't.
I'm very optimistic about Bayona at the helm. A visual and general style overhaul is exactly what this series needs after the (in my opinion) very lackluster Jurassic World.
While I agree that too much milking hurts a franchise, this movie still has the most potential since The Lost World. I disliked both Jurassic Park III and Jurassic World (though I still am able to watch and enjoy them both), but from what we know so far, Jurassic World 2's concept is actually pretty good so far. That, coupled with a competent director and a (so far) great cast has me hoping for a better sequel than Jurassic World was.
Yeah, sorry about the kind-of spam, but I had this idea of a "front page" that gives a fast overview over the most important things.
And I'm excited as well, even though I never got into Jurassic World personally. The sequel shows promise and has a great cast and crew so far.
I can't say that I don't care about the direction the story goes in, but I agree that more dinos will be a huge selling point nonetheless
Jurassic World was so cookie-cutter, but I would've loved it even if it were universally agreed to be terrible. Chris Pratt and a theme park? As a former Disney World CM, I'm sold.
I've never related to a character in the Jurassic Park franchise more than that poor kid who runs the gyrosphere attraction and has to close it down and deal with angry guests. Lmao.
I love Bayona and I love his style. What I'm nervous about is what sort of oversight the studio has -- I hope they let him keep to his artistic roots! He's such a good director!
Haha, it's not that I don't care, but I "don't care." You know?
The second I saw the trailer for JW, I was like... if that Mosasaurus eats a dinosaur, I will consider this movie a win.
I still treat Jurassic Park as the only movie in its franchise, and the off-shoots as kind of "fun half-follow ups". I know nothing can top JP, but I like to eat popcorn and watch dinosaurs go crazy, so my standards are a bit lower for the sequels and for JW.
I'm too much of a die-hard fan for that, sadly. I had unrealistic expectations for Jurassic World and was disappointed by what I got. But apparently, the rest of the world loved it, so who am I to judge? Besides, a Jurassic Park movie being successful can only ever help my favourite franchise, so even though Jurassic World's success puzzles me, it is very welcome.
Again, my "fan-ness" doesn't really allow for me to forget Jurassic Park III and Jurassic World, because they're both undeniably canon to the series. That being said, I don't hate the first two sequels nearly as much as everyone else. In fact, The Lost World is actually almost on par with Jurassic Park, and better in some respects. Jurassic Park III and Jurassic World both are dumb fun and each have their moments, but I'd consider them more dinosaur movie and less Jurassic movie (even though they are).
Cookie cutter is exactly Jurassic World's main problem. It could have been much more than it was, but it was still ok in the end. Just a lot of lost potential.
What's a CM? But I feel for you if that's what a CM has to deal with haha.
I do, too. He's the best thing that has happened to the franchise since Spielberg director-wise. And while studios often have too much say, I believe that Bayona was chosen for a reason. They could have hired Spielberg or even Trevorrow again (I'm glad they didn't), but they conciously decided to go with the more artsy director, which leads me to believe that the script is more like that as well.
CM means Cast Member - it's what Disney calls its front-line park employees!
Yeah, I totally agree on JP3 and JW being more dinosaur movies than Jurassic movies. I guess we'll have to agree to disagree on The Lost World
I guess we have to, though I would like to know some reasons why people dislike it so much. I love it, even though the San Diego scene was a bit much, maybe.
HUGE Jurassic Park fan. Okay, maybe the OP has me beat. I wasn't about to put this much effort into my love. I can't wait.
The last 2 movies I actually went to the theatre to see, were Jurassic World and Jurassic Park 3D. I've seen all of them in theatres on their initial runs and I plan to continue that streak.
Hi there! Hope you'll check back from time to time.
I'm actually too young to have seen anything but Jurassic Park 3D and Jurassic World in cinema, and Jurassic Park 3D didn't even run in my town, which sucked. I might be one of the few Jurassic Park fans who has never seen the movie in cinema. In theory I could have watched JPIII, but I was only four.
Shamelessly bumping this thread because there's news (also because I don't want this thread to die ;-;)
People have complained that it's way too long, has a slow pace, and has "meh" characters and isn't quite as exciting as the first one.
JP3 and JW are dumb monster movies, but at least they're constantly moving and have alot of fun action.
Oh my god HYPE!!!!
I just hope its not ' super soldier raptors with rocket launchers for teeth ' ..... the franchise seems to be going that route.
I wanna see normal ass dinosaurs stalking people in the jungle, I want running, I want screaming, I want kids in peril even though you know they aint gunna die, I want scary moments with the carnivores and warm, loving moments with the hervbivores! I want to see Sam Neil cameo! an older Tim and Lex! I want Dr Thorne and Richard Levinne from the lost world novels!!
I WANT JURASSIC PARK GOD DAMMIT! Not call of duty with raptors.
It was a bit long, especially towards the end, and I agree that many of the characters are pretty much just cut-outs, but then again people love Jurassic World. Jurassic World is 124 minutes, which makes it only five minutes shorter than The Lost World with its 129 minutes runtime, and Jurassic Park is actually 127 minutes as well, only two minutes shorter than The Lost World. And Jurassic World's characters are not only "meh", they're genuinely bad. Even Jurassic Park's characters are, if you get to the bottom of it all, not exactly the pinnacle of screenwriting.
And I honestly like the shift of pace between Jurassic Park's slow buildup and fast action, as opposed to TLW's slower and more thoughtful pace. The only thing that really bothers me about TLW is the over-the-top San Diego chase, though even that is still more exciting to me than Jurassic World's constant big-ass hybrid wrecking shit left and right.
From what we know about JW2, it seems to actually be more reminiscent of TLW in regards to what the story focuses on. Jurassic Park's message was that nature can't be contained, TLW dealt with mankind's responsibility towards their creations (JW2's theme as well) and Jurassic World was a parable and critique on modern consumerism (though maybe undermined a bit by the fact that it had product placements plastered all over the place), with all movies focusing more or less heavily on human greed. Jurassic Park III is the only movie that didn't even try to be more than dumb dino fun, and for that I honestly love it as well, even if it is less-than-stellar. The action was still a lot of fun.
whats the concept?
HOPEFULLY it wont turn out to be a ' one big pile of shit ' .....
Mankind's responisbilities for creating dinosaurs
