Where can I get/download "The curse of monkey island"

So the only monkey Island game I haven't played is monkey Island 3, also known as "The curse of Monkey Island". Does anyone know a reputable site where I can download it from?

I don't think the game has been made available for download anywhere...

You'll have to check Ebay and conventions to get it.
  • edited August 2009
As far as I know there's nowhere on the internet to download it legally but you could probably get hold of it easily on Ebay, Amazon etc...
  • edited August 2009
there's plenty of places that offer a free demo version online, but I can't seem to find the whole game. Is the game not available in stores either?
  • edited August 2009
Well, it isn't exactly legal, you know? )
Unfortunately internet often ignores legal stuff, and if you search long enough, you are most likely to find it - but why not pay a token of respect to the Creators of the wonderful game and buy it?

considering the posts above - i've always believed that internet has EVERYTHING, so out of challenge i spent some time and finally managed to find full .iso's on three separate websites (((

but i personally bought my copy some ten years ago and still consider it was a right thing to do
PS: it's the only MI game you haven't played?!?!...by a lot of people it is considered the best MI game...

i was referring to the first post - where to download the game itself.
Don't think CMI can be called abandonware, although it's pretty old...only runs on scummvm on my notebook.

Amazon or Ebay's probably your best bet.

It may be considered by many as "abandonware", however considering LucasArts still has patches to it up on their website, it's not abandonware. Better hope for a Steam release for your downloading needs, then.
  • edited August 2009
abandonware, curse of monkey island? come on, it's not that old...i found some copies of the classics re-release on amazon marketplace. the new ones are quite expensive, but a used copy costs under 10 bucks.

    so, there you go..

.. i always wondered, why it isn't on steam, since they're selling games like "fate of atlantis" there.

Sorry to hi-jack the thread but I'm trying to play MI 2 and 3 on Vista and I hear that ScummVM allows you to do so? I have them both on CD format, will ScummVM allow me to play them on Vista? Thanks for any help. :)

I believe she was asking for a LEGAL download, since illegal downloads of the game can be found extremely easy.

None of the LucasArts/LucasFilm Games games can be called abandonware, since LA still supports them.

The game runs perfectly on any new PC (XP, Vista or Win 7) if you download the installer/launcher.

ScummVM is also a good option, but you can't use your old original savegames then.

Well, a legal copy - may only be a demo, and she seemed to need a full copy. Thus, i assume it was about a pirated version. Still wonder, what was the logic of asking for a link to a pirated copy of a game on an official game designer's forum??? :p Now feel lost...
Maybe we should ask the one, who actually asked the question, what she really wanted? ))

indeed, that's why I figured it was a question for a legal download....

there are many sites selling old games legally online
    (Steam, Direct2Drive, COG etc.)

unfortunatly CoMI isn't offered online anywhere.

But since LA is starting to sell their old back catalog games, it wil probably will come out again pretty soon.

I wasn't asking for a pirated version (no pun intended). I will pay for it gladly, I just can't find a place to download it, even for money.

ScummVM works in Vista (thanks to it, the last time I played COMI was on my PSP).

    Trolling? Ignorance?

Anyway, I am confident the OP wants a legitimate copy of MI3 and in that case the only way to go it second hand ATM.
When you get hold of it, then ScummVM is the superior way to play, since it can scale up the game to a higher resolution, and also runs on Macs, Linux some game consoles and some phones.

She allready said she didn't ask for a pirated version, and the original question didn't imply it.

I looked on "Steam, Direct2Drive" no luck :-( I guess I'll have to order it much to my dismay

If you have a 2 cd version, you'll first need to copy all files to hard-drive, for if the game asks to insert a second cd, scumm just can't do that

Just so you know - for Curse you'll need to copy the files from the disc to your hard drive, just having it installed isn't enough IIRC (all the main data files are on the disc)

Copy into a folder: COMI.LA0, COMI.LA1, COMI.LA2 and the RESOURCE folders from each disc (can't remember which COMI.LA* files are where and on which disc, just hunt them down like the dogs that they are. Or files.)
(just merge the resource folders together into one big RESOURCE folder)
Then point SCUMMVM at the folder containing the COMI files.
Also note that you can't change settings like subtitles etc. from COMI's own men within SCUMMVM, that's all set in the game list (it's pretty self-explanatory when you get it up and running) - and the only way to save/load is through SCUMMVM's menu, which you can access by pressing f5 rather than "escape".

Principles for getting MI2 to work are pretty much the same - just put all of the files into a folder, and point SCUMMVM to that folder, it'll work out the rest of it for you.
    Enjoy, hope this helps!

(I'm not condoning copyright infringement on games in any way, of course - it's just that this is the only way to get those gems to work on Windows Vista due to unknown compatibility issues with COMI and complete lack of DOS mode to play MI2)

That helps me out alot, thanks. :) So one folder for the COMI files with the Resource files in the same folder but merged into one sub-folder? If that makes sense.
  • edited August 2009
My Monkey3 folder (for want of a better name) contains all three COMI.LA# files, and a RESOURCE folder, which is the result of copying the RESOURCE folder from both discs into the same place.
I think we're on the same track here anyway!
There will be some file clashes when merging the folders (font files mainly) but don't worry about those, leave or replace as you wish (makes no difference)
Then I told ScummVM to "Add Game", and showed it to the "Monkey3" folder (In your case, whatever you've decided to call it)

Or get the Curse of Monkey Island Installer and let that programm install the game for you, before you add it to ScummVM...

no need to copy files manually anymore.

(by the way, CoMI always comes on two CD's)

okay didn't know that... didn't know there were any other versions available...

All the collections I know of (and LucasArts have officially released) have had CoMI in it on two CD's

I own all the MI games but some of them have either been partially lost or, in the case of MI2, my current computer doesn't have a floppy drive. I've already paid for the game once, the right ppl got my money (as far as I'm aware) and nobody else has (or is subsequentally using) the copies I bought. I therefore feel I've done my bit and feel no guilt in downloading an ISO of a game I own but have lost (especially if a purchasable copy is hard to find, in the case of CMI).

If a friend gave you a rowboat and somehow you broke it, would you ask him/her for another or attempt to repair it/build a replica? So long as you aren't making a fleet or giving it to someone else, I don't see morally where the problem is (even though I could still be arrested for it).

First there was a version of CMI that didn't come on 2 CD's.... and now there's a FLOPPY VERSION!!!!!

    WoW...

stuff keeps getting weirder and weirder.

(just joking... not trying to dis. you;) )

I bought the 2CD version of CMI solo, although a 2CD 1-3 compilation came out (Monkey Island Bounty Pack) and a DVD version.

I was referring to LeChuck's Revenge for the floppy game.

Somehow for Secret, I managed to superimpose one disk's contents onto another, rendering one of the disks useless.

Escape's CDs I own still work like a charm (but I had to use the 32-bit launcher on Mix n Mojo to install it on my latest machine [Vista64]).

Yeah, there as a 625 floppy version. Installing took more then 2 days, but it was totally worth it.
It was a bit heavy to carry home from the shop though.....

To be serious, I actually thought that Bounty Pack was 3 CD's... one for Monkey 1 and 2.. and 2 for CMI

Still can't find the DVD version though....

That would be so much easier personal packaging-wise
(I use the LaserSchwertz inlays for all my LA adventures)

(I know that if you just copy both discs to one folder and burn that on a DVD it will still work/install/run from that one disc)

My mistake. I just assumed because only about 400MB was taken up on the first disc, they'd put the first two MIs there.

FYI: I don't use ScummVM with COMI, I have Vista 64 so I pretty much have to use a custom installer anyhow, and the same site also provides a launcher that can play the game:

    http://quick.mixnmojo.com/software

the installer comes with said launcher and ScummVM runs like a charm on a 64bit OS

    (run Win7 64bit myself)

the next episode will be there

not on the boards in any way other than joyfull members posting that it's finaly here (and probably including links to the download page).
