So LeChuck.....: Major Spoliers

What do you guys make of the new LeChuck? I personally think something is going on with him and Elaine. Elaine seem way too sure that he has become good, after all he's done to her. She's infected with the pox so that might have something to do with it. So do you think he is a nice guy now or if it's just role playing and he has other plans in mind?

    Definatly plans.

As someone who loves MI2 and the diabolically evil LeChuck and the Earl Boen voice over performances...the new LeChuck is insanely awesome in every way. I love this plot twist.

And he's definitely got something evil in mind.

Or does she? Remember the last thing she says is whispering to Guybrush that she wants to keep an eye on him.

And in the end she says she wants to keep an eye on him... I'm not sure what to make of that. Is she lying to Guybrush? Does she want to keep an eye on him in a "good way"? (prevent him from getting into trouble or something). Does she suspect him, too?

I'm hoping for a LeChuck/Elaine make out scene.

That would be ironic. There hasn't even been one with her and Guybrush. Anyway, I think Elaine is falling for LeChuck, maby that's why she gave Guybrush her wedding ring. I'm sure everything that is happening will all tie back to LeChuck, then at the end he tells Guybrush his whole plot ""It all started when I gave Elaine that flower so we could communicate to sea animals"... Something like that.

I have to say, I like his newer Voice Actor compared to the one used in Episode 1, this guy seems to have some class to his voice and sounds like LeChuck. :)

I think it's actually the same guy, isn't it?

He's just not as well suited for the zombie LeChuck. I actually think this guy is the definitive human LeChuck though - he's really good. So good that I wouldn't mind if the human thing was permanent. It's really a refreshing plot twist and an awesome change in character.

I could of sworn it was a different name in the credits.
  • edited August 2009
As human Lechuck the voice rocks but he wasn't so bad as the zombie version either.
I get the feeling the LeChuck and Elaine both have hidden agendas. I can't see Elaine forgiving Lechuck as easily as she seems to have done. That would be like Princess Peach teaming up with Bowser (besides go-karting and playing tennis together).

Yeah, it's a different guy. Don't remember the name though.

Yeah, I agree with the voice acting, I love his voice as a human while I found the zombie one weird (could be the same guy, I know).

I also agree that in a way, I wouldn't be upset if Lechuck stayed human, for a change. I'm enjoying the story and it's a nice change.

I'm finding the story interesting but I'm not sure where they're gonna go with it... Guybrush seems really jealous at this point, and Elaine seems to be a bit too friendly with LeChuck. If something actually happened there... that wouldn't be cool. Guybrush'd be all depressed and stuff. Having said that, I don't think Elaine and Guybrush are that good a couple anyway (I like it so far as the dominating wife bossing him around and stuff, but I don't think their relationship is developed enough to go beyond that without it feeling like we've missed out on too much character development).

I have a feeling Lechuck is genuinely good and near the end of the series he'll "sacrifice" himself to save them, and somehow in the process absorb the pox again and be the evil Lechuck we've all killed countless times.
  • edited August 2009
Morgan doesn't seem to like Elaine, either. And Guybrush lied about her being a male to his wife.
There /could/ be some kind of misunderstanding. Guybrush thinks there is something between Elaine and Lechuck, Elain worries that there might be something between Guybrush and Morgan.
Or, they're both jealous but can't why the other should be.

If something actually happened though, I'd be really pissed :(

    Actually yeah, that's pretty likely.

I doubt it. Way to obvious and anticlimactic. The whole Pox thing might not last till the last chapter.

Something has to happen to LeChuck at the end.. if he's going to be in a different incarnation in the next game. But also remember LeChuck might be human but he's still a pirate and pirates aren't nice, and according to the story in the first Monkey Island game he was in love with Elaine while he was living.

Ok, it might sound wird... but... whot about monkeys? ther was a whole cargo of monkeys on the ship, and remember that strange monkey that looked like talking with LeChuck when we first see him in episode 2? Is It possible that monkeys have pox too? Abowe all, all LeChuck and Elein are doing is about monkeys...

All I know is that the LeChuck puzzle in this episode is a great tribute
to all adventure gamers who ever let someone new to the genre play a game, and waited hours for him/her to solve a pretty easy puzzle, and s/he didn't want any help.

So far in the series, that's my favorite puzzle. Especially
when LeChuck used the key on himself

    Did you try
having LeChuck use the pearl on himself
    . Or
    offering Elaine the pearl
    .

The first one, yes. The latter, no, I should play it again.

And did you guys notice that Elaine gave her ring to Guybrush and didn't ask for it back?

Basically, she's alone with LeChuck, with NO wedding ring, and a husband who
is inside a giant manatee (I think that's what it is)

Heck, I'm not even sure if this is LeChuck's doing anymore! And if it is, it's probably working.

She just responds with a funny line about why she doesn't want to accept it.

Elaine gives you a response if you try to give her the ring back too. She gets angry.

I'm wondering if people have found all of the minor things in the game that give you responses; some ones I've found include
using the hot coals on the hot tub
    or
trying to put the fish eggs on the barbecue
    ,
trying to use the bucket on the hot tub with both the mer-chief in it and out of it
    or
trying to use both the hot coals and the parrot on the pirates who are fighting with LeChuck

I don't think Elaine is falling in love with LeChuck. Towards the end of the game, she says to Guybrush that she wants to stay with LeChuck to "keep an eye on him". I really don't see her falling in love with him unless he puts a spell on her, especially after she told him to "drop dead" when he originally was a human.

Well, the new LeChuck could be a different LeChuck than the one who loved Elaine before SMI.
E.g. he could already have abused voodoo powers while he was alive, making him evil. And now all that is gone and he's a good person, something he has never been before.

right, but i assume he wasn't a nice guy in his last life. now, he's all kind and well-mannered and guybrush is acting like a jerk when it comes to lechuck.

BTW, when it comes to LeChuck, somehow I remembered an old episode of the old TMNT cartoon I watched when I was a kid: when Shredder REALLY thought he was Michaelangelo and a turtle, and turtles kinda though despised him, had to work together. It was kind of a bit, well, not sad, but... you know... something like that, when Shredder got back to evil.

Although the situation with LeChuck is a lot different than with Shredder, the icon of the fifth episode does have an UNDEAD LeChuck, and I'm afraid I'll get too attached to the human LeChuck until he returns to his undead form. At least, I hope that if he does return to being undead, it will be more than just "AAAARGHH KILL GUYBRUSH AND EVERYONE ELSE AND MARRY ELAINE", I want something a lot more dramatic and deep.

I find the human LeChuck funny, but I miss the old nasty, rotten, power-lustfull, bloodthisrty, gory, undead LeChuck! When I was a kid playing MI2 I actually was afraid of playing the final part alone at night :p! I think newcomers really must get to know the Real LeChuck! And let's face it: We haven't seen him in his prime since 1997 (MI3). In EMI he was just a buffon!
I hope he's faking at he eventually returns to his undead form, while the human part may be refreshing, I disagree with the part that his evilness could be sucked out! He was already a nasty pirate when he was alive
(pushed grandpa Marley down the whirlpool (or tried to), deceived Minie Goudsoup, etc)
. Besides, I'm more with the concept that if a person turns undead, he will only be evil if he was evil before. Remember Skeleton Bob form SMI? He was reluctant to be undead, that guy clearly wasn't evil when alive, while Murray must have been quite the trouble-starter and power-hungry while alive. His death only made him think he was the devil-incarnate, lol.

PS-If LeChuck does turn undead again, I hope it's not at the very end! Let him be undead atleast a full episode (possibly ep5)

Well I wouldn't be suprised, about the human Le Chuck being good, but I wouldn't be suprised at him being evil either.

However the person who seems to be behaving most like the Le Chuck we've all come to know and loathe is Elaine, And Morgan mentioned "Elaine" as if she wasn't really who she was supposed to be.

And as people have said "Elaine" isn't behaving quite like herself, even when her pox doen't flair up. (and the largest flare up was when Guybrush tried mentioning she's got it).

Or does "Elaine" really possess the pox. Is "she" actually Le Chuck?

Nah she can't be him. That would be a bit disturbing and suggests Guybrush doesn't recognize his own wife that well ;)

It could be that she turned to the dark side!
After all that diplomacy being the governor and all that running away from LeChuck, she is sick of it. She wants the power of the pox for herself to reign over the Caribbean with an iron fist!
This is probably why Guybrush got a new sweetheart to get cozy with in the warm stomach of the Manitee!

Well, she did show disgust when she mentioned Elaine's name in the end.
"Besides, you're married to *ugh* Elaine..."

I don't think human LeChuck will do anything that will make us regret losing him. I think the developers have done their homework. LeChuck probably has something horrible planned especially since Guybrush said at the start of chapter 1 that his soul chilling schemes are usually so well thought out. In the Q&A with the team, Mike said LeChuck is still our villain. Also, look at these quotes. "My outer shell is meaninglessness you fool", and "The evil of LeChuck is always evolving in new ways." Two things LeChuck said at the start of chapter 1, kind of relevant huh?

If so, he must've been aided by VooDoo Lady, as she is the one who showed Guybrush how to craft the Cutlass.

Either way, we can think of LeChuck as the pure evil villain. The pox is LeChuck in essence, but just using different hosts for his plans.

Wouldn't it be better for him to become undead again in Chapter 4 then, since all Monkey Island final chapters are usually very short compared with the norm?
