Germans hate ToMI.

Even after the marvelous Episode 2, german adventurer continue to moan. I didn't read one positive comment on the biggest german adventure-communitys about the last effort by Telltales. Instead, a majority think Telltale destroyed the saga and turned everything in a wrong way.

Whats up with our people? Are we Adventure-Nazis? Or are we to fed up with new and good efforts? Or too conservative for episodic gaming?

Did you mean "German Reviewers hate ToMI"? 'cause I belive lots of Germans here love ToMI...

Maybe the people who still stick to Germany-only adventure communities are. Most people who really just want to play and enjoy the games have probably moved to the international communities by now, or are not part of any community at all.

There is stuff that I didn't like about ep2, but it's still one of the games I enjoyed most in recent years.

the random dudes and dudettes in the aventure message-boards. Don't know about the professional reviews.

They also say, that the mood at the telltale-board is no argument for a good game, because just fanboys register on the game-maker's board.

Maybe you could give us a link to the "biggest German adventure-communities" so we can see what all the hubbub is about.

Yeah! We are such fanboys. Shame of us. Also we should stop using soap, as it's commertial : )

I hate the "fanboy" comment. Kills every productive discussion.

Hey, also german and liked the episodes so far. I wouldn't say a majority doesn't like the game. It's more like 50:50. Many think MI deserves a whole long developed awsome game with graphics from Tiller which ToMI can't be.
  • edited August 2009
When someone wants to moan, productive discussion isn't what he expects.

    OK, maybe I'm missing something:

Right now I'm seeing two kinds of comments on these pages:
The reviews, which are somewhere around 80, which is fine.
The usual troll comments on the news items. Don't ask me why, but these kinds of comments appear on every news site in Germany and should not be taken seriously.

Hate? I can't read any hatred on the german boards.
So far they don't praise it to heaven, but hate? No sir. No hatred there.

Edit: And even if... Some people like it some don't. That doesn't make them worse persons.
But please keep away from wide generalization like "Germans hate ToMI" because it simply isn't true. Also I, as a german felt the need to post into this thread that I am german and don't hate this game because of this.

    Then it's dislike.

Please link to those specific threads full of hatred.

I had a look at the forum threads and the reception there is mixed, as could be expected. They raise the same issues as we do here, but there are only very few people who really dislike ToMI.

    Just like here then.

Also I didn't really saw the comment:

While I can sign the fact that the mood on the board should not be taken into a review of a game, I didn't read this statement anywhere.
You shouldn't read too much into the statements. What I saw where people who watched the game from a different angle, saw a few flaws but said that in the end they are still hooked for the next episode.
I wouldn't call that dislike either.

It's incredible how you obviously continue to visit German forums and internet sites, collecting only and exclusively the negative thoughts there, then come back here to post massively generalized and, let's face it, really stupid thoughts about your own people, which do not even try to approximate the truth. I really don't know where you find your "majority", your "Conservatives", least of all your "Adventure-Nazis" (you might want to define this term, but thinking about it, really, you'd better not).

Honestly, what do you want do achieve with these posts? Do you actually wish to elicit borderline-racist thoughts from other posters like "Well, they just don't know what's good for them" or "Germans don't really have any taste"? And can you yourself find any sense in your question "Are we fed up with new and good efforts"? Seriously, what is your illness? I want to find out, honestly!

You're right. Germans are itty-witty and all-day-moaning nitpickers. Two lost wars and then those bad Tales of Monkey Island. Life is hard in the Sauercraut-land.
  • edited August 2009
OK, can we stop the flame war and pretend the last two posts never existed?
  • edited August 2009
Let's not generalise some posts and take them to the extreme that one nation hates ToMI. It's like I can easily say that Romanians never heard of Monkey Island, just because we don't have an official adventure-games site.
    ...which is wrong.

There are probably more adventure gamers in Germany than there are in any other country (or at least they're the most vocal), so of course there are going to be more 'haters' too. From a quick glance over those forums you've linked though, I'm not seeing any crazy negativity. Please link to some specific hate threads (or even posts, if possible), as DjNDB has already asked.

    "Germans hate TOMI"

    Guys, that's a GREAT one! :D

The only thing I could think of why Germans would, well, say _dislike_ TOMI would be that it hasn't been dubbed. We Germans are used to get every-single-sh**t dubbed into our native language. Personally, I hate that. One of the reasons I hardly go to the cinema.

    "Adventure-Nazis"...that expression is hilarious! :D

this is soo true..dubs usually suck....not to mention the translated titles some movies get here.

i wouldn't say that germans hate tomi...there are a lot german users on these forums and most like it, right?
the only negative german review of tales i have seen so far is the one published in german magazine "gamestar" for episode one. i think there was link in the telltale blog...the score wasn't that bad, but the overall opinion was that it was a huge disapointment.

and a huge wave of bad comments about the game followed in the comments. The main argument was that the graphics are not good enough. The usual crap you can read if you go to boards full of 12 year olds (and maybe even some older guys).
I am german and I love Tales. I love telltale. I don't cara about graphics and sound as long as the dialogue is in englisch. (except for the sound issue with elaine at the throne (and ONLY at the throne)

I am sick of bad german translations, horrible voices for characters, cut versions of games etc.
Thank you telltale that I can play your games in englisch.
  • edited August 2009
Oh, I would like to state that I hated the graphics of TOMI, too! Actually, I still do, but apart from that, the game has a lot of other qualities to offer that are very convincing.
  • edited August 2009
I am german and i really like ToMI. What i don't like is just the graphics and the action-menu. The oldschool menu is still the best imo and even the one from MI3 was better.

    Also verallgemeiner nicht...
    this thread is useless....

This thread maybe has already lived too long. Everyone's entitled to their opinion and are welcome to be as loud as they'd like about their thoughts on the games, positive and negative (yes we read most of it), and we know that the game's doing just fine in Europe (including Germany :) ), so don't concern yourselves!

This just in: People who are unsatisfied with something are far more vocal about their opinions than people who are. News at 11.
