What was TT thinking?

What was TT thinking, when decided to announce season 4 as Final Season? I mean, maybe i don't understand something, but in my opinion, TT became famous mostly(or even only) because of TWD. I believe that there are a lot of TWD fans whose first TT game was TWD S1 and only after that they were buying and playing other TT game just to support them so they continue with TWD. But no, Now they've announced final season, do they really think that they will get that much fame and money for their most favorite game Minecraft? i bet Minecraft will have much more seasons then TWD.

  • They were probably thinking that they need to End Clem's story since there is a lot riding on her character so far. Too much to live up to regarding choices and characters related to her past.
I don't think that this is the last "Walking Dead" season, just the end for our prominent Clementine.
And I'm fine with this. If they reboot with a new character and group, they should really plan out the whole season. [Clem is not what the Waking Dead is for me. It's the world itself and the assortment of characters that inhabit it. All I care about here is the variety of stories they can tell.. which unfortunately they can't seem to break away from one or two possibilities.] Telltale doesn't (and I don't either) want to see themselves backed into a corner with a plot thread, forcing to kill off characters in lame ways. That's happened way too much and I hope they pull much less of that in the future.

Even if Walking Dead doesn't pan out and it truly is over, I can see a future with their Batman series maybe even with other DC properties...

Honestly I think it's good of them to elect to conclude the Walking Dead series if they feel it's right to. Being the final season allows them to have hopefully greater range of flexibility on how Clem's story ends. Plus they're far past just Walking Dead games, and finishing that series will allow them to both continue other projects like Minecraft, Wolf Among Us and Batman whilst commencing new series as well! (COUGHJAMESBONDSTARWARSANDDOCTORWHOCOUGH)

  • They announced that it's the final game of Clementine's story. It doesn't mean it's the end of TWD, for good, forever. Probably, but that door will remain open for now.

Besides, Rocksteady Studios got way more famous for the Arkham games and they have left that franchise. All things must end.

  • They were thinking that Clem's story should be wrapped up so they can focus on different aspects and characters without the general audience getting upset. A little late...But its happening at least.

  • I kinda agree, for me personally Clem is more then just a character and I don't think TWD is only about 1 person, but i still think Clem's story should't end that early.

P.S I guess after Season 4 they will realize what they've done, but it'll be already too late.

How did they not think of that before creating an entire season about another person/family? -_-

Great emoticon, it totally doesn't scream of early internet teen angst, but outside of that as someone who really enjoyed a new frontier, it is hard to call it a third season. Best to learn from mistakes rather than just ignore them, which telltale seems to be doing by wrapping up Clem's character narrative.

Going around from town to town solving people's problems and moving on.

  • Look at TV show even though I enjoy it every season near the exact same with just different group

Think with game telltale faces some of same issues there is no resolve or cure in TWD just facing same sort issues all.the time

Hard to be innovative and create great story I'm sure they feel they can't come up with something unique and see franchise sales and.reviews only getting worse

    Writers need new challenge.

  • Telltale does this because they used too much time skip, didn't fix the mistakes from S2 with A New Frontier and made the series worse. Nothing has been great since Season 1.

I think Telltale probably saw that Season 2 and A New Frontier probably did not capture as much positive reception as Season 1 did, and they probably decided to creatively move on from the Clementine story arc due to episodes in later Seasons not capturing the same spark as Season 1 did to Telltale's hardcore Walking Dead fans.

Job seems to hint that Telltale will still work with Walking Dead into the future, but that Season 4 is the last Clem focused season. (In which case, I do wonder why they are temporarily calling Season 4 "The Final Season" given Job's hints, but that's a bit of a derail from the topic of this thread.) I interpreted that as a hint that they will instead dabble in stories with new casts of characters not tied to Clem. That could be in the form of one-off episodes (like 400 Days), mini series (like Michonne), or maybe even full Seasons that focus on new characters (like how A New Frontier flirted with the idea of focusing on the Garcia family).

Basically, my point is - I think they just want to creatively move on, but before they do, they opted to give Clem fans some closure in the form of a curtain call for her story-line as a subtle apology after they saw fan feedback of Clementine's reduced presence in ANF.

i don't think expecting a quality product with a good story is an "extremely high expectation", buddy. i think it's just common sense that if you're going to use your money to purchase a story based product with the hope of it being quality, that you should get a good story out of the product in question. if you don't, it's just bad. nobody has high expectations, we just expect a well written story with characters we can relate to and understand, which if you look at some of telltale's older games, doesn't exactly seem like an impossible thing for the company to pull off.

  • Then that's easy. It has to end. I mean 4 games following one person is enough. Where do they go after while? Go until she's old and jaded to zombies? A grizzled veteran zombie hunter? Get bitten, then dive backwards into a giant furnace as she's dying? Then bring her back as a clone in the next season?

Just thank Jebus that Clem isn't as tied to the Walking Dead universe as Alien is to Ripley. That franchise is still in surgery trying to separate them.

That's an interesting point, actually. Mb they lied? or said that on purpose? to draw some attention or just for hype after ANF

Would you rather they keep pumping out sequel after sequel after sequel to the point where Clementine is 80 years old? The series can't go on forever. It has to end at some point.

  • And there are some people who are, what's your point?

  • I just hope they do this final season justice, I want our choices to have meaning, determinant characters to survive till the end and to learn about each character in the new group. It would also be nice if they added allot of references to the previous 3 seasons.

  • I would attribute that to them currently being unsure of how to distinctly clarify it's "Clem's Last Season" but not "The Final Season" (unless it is the Final Season and future Walking Dead content is just one-off mini-series or episodes...)

    • Lied about s3e1 being too big. Robbed us of an episode.
    • Lied about 42 Clementines
    • No news for GoT s2 after 2 years despite a terrible cliffhanger
    • Ignored fan feedback until it was in their best interest to not do so
    • Made a Guardians of the Galaxy game
    • Killed Kenny and all of the s2 endings within 5 minutes out of laziness

    Step it up, Telltale

  • GOTG is one of their best games to date so far, if you actually bothered to give it a try.

  • I disagree with that, it has the fun and charm of the Guardians down pretty well, especially with the characters, plus it does well with hubs and interaction. I might be slightly bias as a Marvel fan of course, but I think it's ok so far. To each their own anyway.
