Theory about John Doe/Joker

I think the Telltale version of Joker has put us in a somewhat unique position in terms of our understanding of the character up to this point. Pay close attention to how all the various behind-the-scenes interviews with Telltale staff keep referring to the Joker as "John Doe." This is because he isn't the Joker; not yet. If we're to assume Telltale is following the classic origin, then we're observing a man who's only just emerged from a vat of disfiguring chemicals and is still "freshly insane." We're witnessing an intermediate stage of the Joker's evolution we haven't seen before. He might be the Joker physically, but he isn't quite the Joker mentally. There's still some residue of his humanity left.

If that's the case, how the player chooses to forge their relationship with John Doe in this season could be pivotal in the long run. "John Doe" represents a gestating phase for a Joker who's still vulnerable from an unknown trauma (a pregnant wife killed in a household accident, maybe?). He's not pure evil yet, but he's getting close. His conversations with Bruce could be a final, indirect attempt to reach out to another human being before he becomes completely inhuman. If we allow Bruce and John to "connect," what impact could it have on Joker and Bruce/Batman's interactions with each other if season 3 were to happen?

Well, I can tell you are mostly right but I dont think our relationship with him will not turn him into Joker because if Telltale play its cards like usual, it will be obvious that he will turn into classic Joker that we know regardless of what we did.

Also, its worth to mention that John Doe says Riddler is rude, killer and thief. It might because John Doe is still caring his good side and not fully insane or he is trying to manipulate Bruce(which is more likely according to Joker's past).

I dont remember which version but in a comic, Joker was the victim of some tests and chemicals so he went crazy and he decided to get revenge on Gotham for what Gotham did to him. Maybe in this game, we could see this excuse or something close to that. Also, that will explain why he doesnt have any record in Arkham Asylum because doctors may didnt record the results due to their affects on Joker.

  • Yeah I definitely got the feeling that he has been struggling with his sanity since he left Arkham, and that in a weird way he is reaching out to Bruce.

  • I think it's more that he's struggling with society. He doesn't seem to understand it and doesn't know what and when something is socially appropriate. And he reveals that the freedom kind of stresses him out. Makes you wonder how long he's been in Arkham.

  • I found it interesting that they were looking at three different Jokers for inspiration for their own - Nicholson, Hamill and Ledger. Makes you wonder if that's the templates they have in mind for the sorts of Jokers John can end up as. I always love the deranged Showman type of Joker, so I'm gunning for that one.

I also definitely think that Amanda Waller (or the Agency at least) has a hand in his origins, that also that we'll get to PLAY as John Doe in Episode 4 in flashbacks (going by the promo card).

  • We could very well be looking at a situation where Quinzel is the sculptor and John Doe the material. She will turn him into what we've come to know as Joker.

  • A message to reveal.

    • After finishing this 2 season Batman launches dlcs of Night Wing or does Robin or makes Batman's son for an eventual 3 season like them

  • I didn't feel that we had much of an impact on Two Face. We know the cannon is that Harvey Dent becomes TF, and they stuck with cannon. I don't know how my treatment of him (I replayed the game a number of times, but almost always chose to be a caring, understanding friend) will play out in future interactions with him. Same with "John Doe" I suspect.

  • As cool it would be have the Joker as some kind of superhero who fights with weird gadgets (aka acts like the character overall but fights for good,) I doubt it will happen in the second season. Not at least without there being some kind of villainous motive behind it.

  • I agree that Joker hasn't reached his full potential yet. But he is definitely not human.
He is still being blatantly manipulative, and for me, everything he does is a complete charade to manipulate us into doing what he wants. He already hooked himself on Bruce by getting us to "owe him" in a way, and now we are tangled and tied with him -which is exactly what he wants.
