Epic Mickey can now be summed up in 6 sentences:

    1. The artwork looks awesome..

    2. The screenshots looks terrible...

    3. Thus, a HUGE dissapointment!

    4. I hate Wii.. :/

    5. Thank god for KH.. =)

    6. What's for dinner?

I think this game could be very fun, but it is still to early to tell.

But when I saw the screenshots I was very disappointed. Low quality textures and almost no details in the surrounding. I really hope they are going to do something about the visuals before it is released.

    To quote Warren Spector:

"There are a couple aspects to that. I think I've mentioned before, that I'm a big believer in finding out where the line is by pushing past it. There are lines that are on every project; every project exists in a creative box. For most of my games, I create that box and the team has to sort of work within it. In this case, there's a creative box that I create, and there's the creative box that Disney overlays on that. I know where my lines are, but I don't know where Disney's are. I had a lot of stuff generated that was very specifically designed to be provocative and to cross that line. I know it's too far -- or is it? You tell me. So it forces a confrontation or a decision. Some of what you saw was beyond the line, and so I learned something from it. Some of it was early design ideas that are no longer relevant. Some of it is stuff that's still in the game, and I'm not saying what."

He's also admitted he has Epic Mickey planned as a trilogy, at least in his head, though he's trying not to plan that from the start (he remembers the failure of his plans for a Deus Ex trilogy).

Looking at the concept art, I can't help thinking... this should have been a 2D game. Those images look fantastic!

I just look at those pictures as cool paintings. I didn't expect the game to look like that, and I don't think any game would be able to capture that look, it's not something that would translate into game form in a coherent way. It's a great look for a painting, and I'm just happy to have seen those paintings. I'm hoping to see more paintings like that in the future.

Somebody linked me to this the other day: a song from the soundtrack. It's delightfully creepy!

I also found an interview with Warren Spector, and a video showing how one of the 2-D platform stages was built. I really can't wait to see more of this game in motion. :)

They lost me just about, even though it could be a good game, it just looks like a slighty dark mickey mouse game for kids now. I'll stick to Kingdom Hearts.

What did you guys expect from a Wii game?

What did you guys expect from a Wii game?
The Mario games have proven that the Wii can have games that, while not amazing on a technical front, have fine aesthetics in their own right. Considering the generally simplistic nature of Disney cartoon designs, it doesn't seem like it's the sort of thing that would be impossible. Did I think I'd be transported into the concept art? Certainly not. But I expected at the very least for the general tone to carry over. If it looked about the same as it does in these early screenshots, but with the tone of the concept art, it'd be fine.

There are also some nice 2D games with hand-drawn graphics. WarioLand, Boy and His Blob, etc. Considering the concept, I actually expected a 2D platformer.

Well as far as graphics goes Indiana Jones and The Staff of Kings is on the WII. Where as it's not amazing, I was impressed that it's on the WII.

I'd also like to put Klonoa out there as an aesthetically pleasing title on the Wii... if only to get it some flippin' coverage.

Hey guys, check out the hlkiday 2009 issue of Nintendo Power. There is an artical on this game. It's like a shadow the hedgehog, drawn to life mix. You can choose to be good or evil, and you get to draw/erase things. Interesting.

I could imagine what the storyline would resemble:

Disney's fame is taken away from them. Now it is their turn to break through the wall that has accumulated over the neath of them and return to their throne.

Battle of the companies in short.

Actually the plot is that there is a new enemy approaching and to defeat it, Mickey must restore the balance of power to his older yet shunned brother(Walter the Lucky Rabbit, Disney lost rights to him and he became no more but micky came to be and now Walter returns) of course there still is the whole choose to be god or evil, but you still must restore Walter and defeat the enemy.

Okay, first of all, his name is Oswald. You should watch his shorts, they're excellent, classic, and show Walt's early innovation in the medium of animation. This is an amazing DVD set, worth every penny.

Secondly, your plot is completely wrong. The interview with Warren Spector says that the story starts with Yensid, the backwards-named wizard from Fantasia. The wizard creates a paradise, similar in basic design to Disney World, for some of his creations to live in. Mickey ends up accidentally spilling paint thinner on it, and ends up running away. Mickey attains fame and fortune, but the magical Disneyworld lives in a much poorer state. Mickey ends up being forced back into this world, and Oswald tries to exact his revenge. Oswald wants Mickey's life, Mickey's friends(explaining the animatronic Donald and Goofy), Mickey's fame. But most of all, all Oswald really wants is Yensid's(aka Disney's) approval and recognition.

I may have screwed up with the name(I really guesssed walter) but on Nintendo Power I remember it saying mickey must restore his former glory to defeat a new threat.

After reading numerous articles about Epic Mickey, it's turning out to be less and less of a dark, creepy, cynical parody of Mickey Mouse (I mean, you would think that taking a giant mutant mechanical scorpion and sticking Goofy's head on it would automatically make it look creepy). It now just looks like a Super Mario Galaxy crossed with Okami with the lights turned down.

But I'm still keeping my fingers crossed for an epic game. :p

I simply love the concept art and story of Epic Mickey, more than Kingdom Hearts, actually, since they made it look more twisted and further away from the usual things Disney gives us (also, I kinda felt the story of KH is a bit like a cheesy crossover fanfic). But Epic Mickey's screenshots didn't have the same uniqueness the concept art and story was promising, so...

    Also, I don't have a wii.

I think that what a lot of people really don't understand is that this is less "Gritty Mickey" and more "1920s Mickey". This reaction makes sense, because absolutely nobody but me actually cares about animation that is that old, and absolutely nobody but me is excited about the return of Oswald.

Hey, whoa there, I saw Gertie the Dinosaur. :p

Never heard of Oswald though. Anyway, I hope the actual game won't look so bright as these early screenshots. I really liked the look of that concept art, but now that look is looking to be watered down quite a bit.

The idea of the concept seems to be that you CAN paint the landscape all bright and colorful, or mischievously tear everything down. On one hand, we can be only seeing one side of the game in screenshots.

On the other, someone may have needed to make some compromises down the road that made the atmosphere of the game be pretty....well, meh.

if you look in the art work booklet that came with the fallout 3 collector’s edition…. there is a picture of a post-apocalyptic family in a half melted family sedan. the kids and family although dead from the nuclear blast seem to be wearing mickey caps.:guybrush:

Hah, looks like you left a word out of the title of the thread there... I believe it should read 'Epic Mickey Sucks'. Ah well, easy mistake. ;)

The designers have had this game in concept well before any of the kingdom hearts games came into play.

I personally can't wait to play it, and take my sweet time, not rushing through the stages...

I am disneyland and wdw alumni and a former cast member. disneylandalumni.org member.

why i am happy for this:

The game brings back characters and theme park attractions from yesterdayland, and brings them back to life. Disney has been always an American icon, and this is good for gamers who like to "Talk story" with their friends, family, and loved ones.

oh, and since Disney is now married with MARVEL, you can expect to see progressively impressive films for our current and next generations :)
    something to look forward too.

Oswald , was in play when Disney and Universal were the same entity. Before mickey, there was a common "the lucky rabbit" that americans of the early 20th century came to love.
