Someone likes their protagonists with a side of redemption.
I'm going with Bigby because he was a more well-rounded character. The Walking Dead gave us the choice to handle Lee as either a caring person or a complete jerk. I felt we had more grey area to work with Bigby. Lee's character arc was set in stone from the moment you start the game. Bigby gave us a broader choice. He didn't even have to have a character arc if you didn't want him to.
It's going to come down to choice versus writing. Lee is obviously the more well-written character because we were given less choice. I preferred the options of choice... Even if I did end up following canon.
Lee easily for me. Bigby was fun, but definitely not a character that will stay with me as long as Lee. Lee's character is a wonderfully done example of how to introduce a player to an established universe but offer them freedom in it.
Lee I cared an emotional weight for. His background story made me cry, he escapes and goes on a redemption story and forms a adoptive father bond with this girl. He tried to lead a group and it went in ruins. So he had to make some hard choices that some of the members didn't like and that leads to conflict. The girl that he was with gets kidnap and he risk his life and rest of the other members to find her and bring her back and dies in progress. No I had great respect for him.
Bigby character I love because he is a BADASS but I don't agree to his moral code and AGREESSIVE nature. But I still love TWAU but mostly becaue of the supporting characters/ dialog / storyplot. I don't have much love for the main character. Sorry
So yes LEE wins hand down. I cried for hours after he dies and he uses his dying breath getting Clementine back (in my game I made Clementine shoot Lee).
I think I actually prefer Bigby, like Johro said, he was more rounded and had an interesting grey element to his character. His story ends in a way in that you’re not real sure on whether he’s changed for the better or if nothing has changed and he is just going through the motions. Lee serves his role very well but once he meets Clementine, you already know where his story is going and that’s kind of the issue with Season 1 as a whole. I also felt the writers almost couldn’t decide if Lee was a blank slate to be shaped by the player or if he was already a set in tone character since he does have a backstory. Plus Bigby is just cool, I mean, ten foot wolf with Lycanthropy powers playing Sheriff and Decective is always a cool concept.
On one hand, Lee is a very bland character concept, however he's incredibly fleshed out and is given numerous leaps of character development to flesh out who he is, what his goals are, where his interests lie, what his emotional attachment lies in, and why he does the things he does, while at the same time giving the player enough freedom to add their own personality to that of Lee's.
On the other, Bigby is an incredibly interesting character concept that if explored further could be fantastic, but he's executed relatively poorly. We know of his goals and why he does the things he does, but what about his character? There's not a lot to work with. The way he was executed is very One-Dimensional and boring. The most we get with characterization is a grunt or him being particularly nice or nasty to certain characters. Bigby is a very boring character the way he's introduced, developed and even how his arc is finished. However he is entertaining and likable despite all this, and Lee is the same way.
Another thing to talk about is the type of characters they are.
Lee is a very passive or reactionary character. He mostly takes action based on things in the story happening to him, he rarely goes out of his way to do something on his own volition without it being something required of him due to the situation. That is reactionary behavior.
Bigby is an active and forceful character. His actions move the plot along far more than coincidence. He does react to things but primarily Bigby will actively go out and seek the answer to his mystery as opposed to sitting around and letting a hint drop in his lap.
Now of course this is to be expected, Lee is stuck in an apocalyptic situation so the best choice he has is to stay put where it's safe, Bigby has the royalty to do otherwise. But at numerous points in the story Lee isn't really doing anything until the plot happens, and the most active he is is speaking to the NPCs waiting for something to happen. Now this is subjective but personally, I like active characters more than reactive ones.
Most importantly are the characters surrounding them. These characters rub off on the POI's personality and directly influence the actions they take, which makes it more or less believable when a character does something irrational. I'd say TWD and TWAU are on equal grounds with the character writing via the side characters. Some good, some bad, some superb, some horrendous. But I think it's far, far, far more believable the lengths Lee goes for Clementine because of the way their dynamic is written and shown.
Of course Snow, Nerissa, Faith, The Crooked Man, The Tweedles, Bloody Mary and Colin all greatly influence Bigby's actions and emotions too, but none of it is quite as believable as Lee and Clem's relationship. Whether that's a writing issue or an issue of the characters not having enough time to be as developed due to Bigby's lone wolf nature remains to be seen, but Clem and Lee have very believable chemistry, like they've been friends for a life time.
Now personally? I prefer Bigby. But honestly I feel Lee is far better written. He's really a good example of making the most of a bad concept.
I wouldn't call Bigby a bad concept or poor character. Bigby just has a lot more past to his character. To me I think Bigby is explained really well once we go to his apartment and talk to Colin. We see that he lives in a terrible apartment despite all the work he is doing, and get background on him about how everyone in the town pretty much hates his guts because of his past actions. Bigby isnt a bad person, but he isnt good either, he really makes a great antihero. He is capable of being bad, but he is just as capable of being good. Lee works great because he is basically a blank slate so its a lot easier for the player to relate. But Bigby works great for the player to relate to him and for every choice the character makes to feel as if Bigby would do the same too. Every emotion Bigby does, the player feels too. (Mostly frustration of the town hating you lmao) This is a lot harder to do with a character that already had a history to them, so its pretty amazing how well Telltale made him likable to players. Javier is a good example of how a character with history can flop tho lmao
Quick side, anyone notice how Javier kills someone by shooting them in the back, brutally smashing someones skull in, and then killing someone mid sentence? And then he is unfazed and no one seems to give a shit? Starting to think Javier was the real bad guy here smh
That's a tough one.

It's pretty weird to compare those two. They're both good in their own way and you can't say one's more badass than the other. Lee's a human, Bigby's a bloody wolf.
It's easy to say which one I preferred, but truly difficult to say which was the better protagonist. I suppose the comics are obscure enough that a lot of people wouldn't have been familiar with Bigby, but the first point toward being the better protagonist would go to Lee. Our introduction to Lee is engaging, and throughout the story there are a few background elements to his life that we're left to fill in ourselves which makes him 'our Lee' as much as our choices.
Bigby's layered with a great deal of cynicism, a snarky attitude, and adds a certain film noir aspect to the game that may or may not be to the players tastes. I personally adore him, however there were a lot of other characters I just found more annoying. ( At least an eight out of a one to Ben. Sorry to all fans of Ben, but that's my Walking Dead Scale. ) He's a fantastic character that didn't quite leave the same impressions on me as Lee did due to the other characters surrounding him.
As a matter of who I liked playing better, I loved Bigby -- but I felt like I had more of a hand in who Lee was and who he would become.
They're both both my favourite TT protagonists with Rhys being my third favourite actually, Lee would be my favourite but Bigby would be a very close second.

Lee because he gave me a lot of reasons to like and cry to his death. We only like Bigby because he is just a badass, that's it.
Bigby because he is the HIGHEST TIER of SAVAGE.
Lee cos Bigby has misleading choices
Lee is an original character vs Bigby being taken out of comics no? if thats the case I'd say Lee, otherwise I'd say Bigby

GLASS HIM!!!
Bigby. I find him him more interesting and he speaks Adam Harrington's voice.
As Johro said, I also found Bigby to be a more well rounded protagonist.
Bigby is the shit

Lee but only by a small margin.
