Might be an unpopular opinion but I'm all for the removal of downvotes. If you're in that strong of disagreement with a post I've made it's more constructive to just write a reply detailing why. Plus with the removal of downvotes those who are sensitive to rejection will feel a bit more comfortable with contributing like @IHeartTWD said.

That played a large role in the removal of downvotes. It was decided that it was better for people to articulate their opinions instead.
Plus, nobody had a common consensus on what downvotes were meant to be used for, which caused obnoxious thread-derailing in some cases. Some people used it for disagreement, others used it for not liking something, others used it for trolling, etc. It was one of those "more trouble than it's worth" kinds of problems, and frankly, we want to encourage people to add to the discussion instead of clicking a downvote.
