Remember down votes?
Since returning to the forum in the lead up to TWDG Season 4 I keep having moments where I think to myself "huh, that's different now" and "remember when that was a thing?" just being nostalgic like you do!
The main one I got thinking about was when the forum had an up vote and down vote system rather than the heart symbol now. This was a dark time for this forum haha I remember it starting petty arguments and people got very, very annoyed at others for down voting a thread or comment. Some even going as far as to organise groups and go on a down voting rampage on posts which they disagreed with in order to drive the user away or antagonise them.
The new system is much better! Pretty much everyone seems really nice and civil here now! Anyone else from way back who is still lingering around remember all this? And do you have anything else you remember that you don't see now?

There’s a lot of new things, but yeah, I remember the down vote system all too well.

I miss my 10-1 down vote ratio. It made me feel like a super villain. You know, pretty much just because I didn't think TWD was the best thing the company has done. Being pals with nearly all the mods at the time of season 2 didn't improve that ratio either. Good times.

That tends to happen when downvoting is a feature on websites. How long ago was that anyway?
I joined in 2013 and to be honest, the forums could get messy if you weren’t on top of it. There was a point where the number of your notifications was a bell with a number, kind of like the system now, but after some point you couldn’t go back far enough to read your notifications. If your messages got buried under notifications then you’d better hope the other person sent something else, otherwise that was game over.

Oh yeah, I remember that! I always bookmarked my conversations so I didn't lose them...
And spammers would abuse the fact that private messages were displayed in the notifications - including images... Yeah, I don't miss that.
But there wasn't any downvoting when I joined.
I never actually learned my lesson on the messages, even though one of my conversation partners told me to bookmark my messages multiple times. Looking in my inbox now, there’s about 3 multiple conversations because I lost the originals.
Downvoting was around when I first join and I’m not sure when it went away, but I’m kind of relieved it did go away. It always made me nervous.
As a tangential aside, for everyone discussing having lost their PMs - all of your private messages from the forums on the Fall 2013 - Fall 2017 version of the forums are still there, in case you wanted to go back and see what older PMs you missed. You just have to view your PM page and scroll back to those older messages.
Person 1: "Remember to bookmark it this time!"
Person 2: "Yeah, yeah, of course. I'll do it in a minute!"

Person 2 starts a new conversation with Person 1
Person 2: "Hiiii... how ya doooing? What were we talking about again?"
Person 1: "...You didn't listen, did you?"

After awhile, it just became normal. It was especially foolish of me because I was running a story at that time and some conversations were for fun, but some were about submitted characters, the messages would always get knocked down pretty quick because I was more active back then and I’d feel so embarrassed because I would have to go back in a new message like “hey... um, I know I asked a while back, but I wanted to see if you were sure on such and such detail.”
Yea, i remember the downvotes and all the annoying things that went along with them (downvote trolls and people using alts to downvote multiple times).
Looking back through some old posts i worked out that downvotes where removed August 18th 2014.

I member. Especially the upvote revolution to fight against downvote trolls. Fun stuff.

I join in 2014 I think the down-voting got removed in that year. to be honest i found it really annoying. there was just a lot of people cyber bulling/trolling other members. You would get spam like crazy for no good reason. So when it got removed it was great. I think there was just a like option with no down-voting then the like turn into heart/awesome icon when the website was updated. The system that we are using now its great however I do miss the fact when you go to you profile you saw how many likes you received on your posts. I admit ok that im addicted to checking back again and again to see my posts got any likes - it just make my day that my posts good positive feedback, so the fact that our profiles don't have info annoryies me a bit
Your Profile page still has a "Total Likes" status; it's under your bio/latest status update
I wish I was around back then. Downvoting everything I saw so that I can try to get reactions out of each individual person and how they would handle being downvoted. Experimentation is wonderful. I’m joking btw, calm down, I’m not THAT mean.
Glad you added that part in... But in hypotheticals, it would probably go down like if you were in a bar with a bunch of tough guys holding the peace and then you punch one in the back of the head while you pass by. They think someone else did it and then punch them to get them back. Their friends see what is going on and jump in on the fight. Before you know it, there is a forum full of people with downvoted comments. Then people like pewdiepie come along and say "CAN I GET 1,000,000 DOWNVOTES?" (absolute Mad Lad btw) And point out the absurdity of it all.

Hey, that's cool! I've actually only visited Forums Games like, twice... I forget it's there. I don't usually read the stories there... I might think about reading yours when I have the time. I was openly anti-Kenny during season 2 of the Walking Dead, so yes, I remember downvotes.
Lots and lots of downvotes. Or pro Kenny votes as I liked to think of them.

I've recently played through the first two seasons again and from making different decisions this time, I've realised Kenny was a bit of a douche if you didn't back him up from time to time. So when he turned up in Season 2 I made my Clementine just react like "oh it's you. whatever."
This thread gave me a heavy nostalgia trip. Sure, the forum wasn't perfect but I kinda miss the 2014 days. And all my old friends here
I miss downvotes, crybabies asking for it to be removed when they affected nothing lol.
I also miss posting comments like "downvotes in 3...2...1..." and "EMBRACE THE DOWNVOTES". Now everything's so boring and predictive.
For me that lounge and fotd story was my peak enjoyment of this forum was amazing still didn't forget users there was something very special. Glad was there to experience it

yeah...i think I am responsible for the decision of removing the down votes. i remember back in season 2 I said I didn't want to make a thread because I was scared of getting down voted and one of the admins replied saying that they were considering the removal of downvotes because they didn't want people to feel that way
Downvotes are stupid anyway.
