A phrase I didn't get

hope this wasn't already asked.
In the 1st episode, Guibrush says "That's a barrel of tar, used for patching up cracks and hazing bosons.".
I can't find what a "boson" is, unless it refers to Higgs ones.
Can anybody explain?
