Metroid is a meh fps, Zelda is a watered down RPG

Metroid isn't an FPS and Zelda isn't an RPG.

Clarification. Both game series (presuming you're referring to the Prime subseries for Metroid) contain elements of those genres but they are not wholly defined by them. The Prime games have the interface of an FPS, true. A lot of Zelda is reminiscent of typical RPGs. However, they don't really fit into those genres completely (Zelda in particular almost defies classification with each game).

Am I weird for imagining HK-47 reading this post? Just throw in a "meatbag" or two and it's all HK-47.

Analysis: I have been discovered. I must dispose of this meatbag.

    <blasts Pale Man>

Dissimulation: Move along, meatbags. Nothing to see here.

mario is a shallow, simple platformer

...Since when was there only one Mario game?

I'm reminded of the Elcor from Mass Effect. :p

Lavish honesty. I loved that "man" like I have loved little in video games.

Fiesty, Gordon Freeman is winning. ...Hmmm.

    Gordon Freeman is winning?

I voted for him, and I would like to see him win.

But Mario has fanboys. many many many fanboys.

Let's hope the awesomeness of Half Life prevails.

Valve put a message in Steam about it, and he completely destroyed Link after that. It was kind of close until that, and then Gordon stomped him.

lol if they put a steam message in, Gordon's gonna win.

That seems a tad unfair. I mean, Nintendo didn't post a message on the DSI firmware update or something.

    Still, it's awesome.

    NINTENDO WILL FALL!
  • edited October 2009
Still, it's just Valve fanboys beating Nintendo fanboys. I mean is anyone really winning? Not the general gaming public, that's for sure!

This Gamespot vote is silly... There are alot of good games out there and alot of good game heroes. Picking one and discarding all others is just... wrong. I loved Mario as a kid, I loved Freeman in the first Half-Life, Raziel, Sonic, Guybrush, Earthworm Jim, Abe, Snake... So they are all winners for me and a stupid popularity poll really doesn't mean anything. In the end of the day, Gamespot are just trying to get more hits on their website.
  • edited October 2009
That's a fair point, but if there is demand for it...

At the end of the day none of this stuff means anything though. Both GameSpot and IGN are pretty poor websites.

    ...

    Gordon is the best though.

(how can you only love gordon in the first half life? his personality is the same!)

Goes to show, it's all a popularity contest. I mean Gordon Freeman doesn't talk, hardly makes him a great character. Mario on the other hand, just saves Princess Peach every day of his life, showing hardly any personality. (By no means am I saying their games are bad, the games are good enough that they don't need a decent character, clearly.)

Nintendo stated that they made mario without muvh of a personality, so they can adapt him to any genre out there. I mean they once adapted him to a villan(donkey kong jr.)

I really don't get how Freeman is in the final, he hasn't got any character and isn't iconic at all, the games themselves are excellent though.

Exactly. Which voids him from being a good character. Which was my point.

Sackboy was on there... that is the most ridiculous because they are supposed to be a blank ragdoll that you customize to your liking. Its almost like having a random Sims character if you think about it.

Makes me think it was more about the actual game and less about the actual characters.

    That and popularity, tbh.

I mean as someone else said. Steam posted an announcement, the ones which popup when you login your steam account, to vote for Gordon. Meaning everyone who logs on steam, which is thousands of users, will have seen it, and alot of which will have voted.

Actually, it's more like MILLIONS of users. So yeah. Mario is soooo screwed.

I would actually be willing to put money on that if all mario games (or games he appeared in) were summed in any given day said sum would be higher than that of those who use steam, and the total that read any of those messages (which I should turn off, if I can) would be lower than those that use steam regularly.

Not during such a small time period though. :P

There will be millions of users, but not all of them will log on in time to see that message I guess.

no offense but, this poll is not only lame its rigged so that only specific characters were added. Which me no likes,
why not let people pick ANY character...sigh
EDIT: need proof this is lame? look at the two up for best char

mario and.. wtf is gordon freeman doing there... he is in all of one game split in two parts and he isnt even SPECIAL or cool, just a lost dude in the wrong place at the right time..

maro... well , i loved the bugger until after n64 era... everything since has been down hill
(tho the bowsers inside story DS was a decent attempt!)

seriously gordon freeman vs link and gordon won?
    wwwwow...
zelda = uber win.. how can this be

mario vs samus ? mario wins... ok only in non usa votes! lol aack

Steam has between 800,000 and 1,500,000 users online at any given time.

And the reason Gordon won, in addition to the Steam message, is that people are SICK of Link and Mario and Cloud winning every single contest every single year.

Interesting, not seen that page before.

Yeah, but that doesn't mean Gordon deserved it. :P

    It's all popularity. DX

    These are kind of meaningless.
