Speculation: What telltale games are getting sequels
Using data, I figured I would speculate what telltale games are getting sequels.
LIKELY
Tales From The Borderlands - The telltale twitter has been tweeting about TFTB much more than usual recently, which normally happens when a Telltale series is getting a sequel. The game was also given away with Twitch Prime. Batman was also given away to promote it's second season. Telltale confirmed it did not flop, but did not say that it sales were much to talk about. The new CEO is definetley doing what the fans want (Like TWAU and TWD) and TFTB 2 would complete the Telltale Holy Trinity 2.0.
MAYBE
Batman - Pete Hawley (CEO) claims to be thinking about Batman season 3. The Enemy Within was the best reviewed Telltale Game since TFTB. Even Pete Hawley says it was better then Minecraft 2 and GOTG when it came down to the games released in 2017, and I'm sure most of you agree.
Classic Games Maybe Poker Night 3 will be made when Telltale needs a quick buck. Maybe Jurassic Park will be taken out of the archives like Back To The Future was, considering the new Jurassic World movie(s)
Mystery Q4 2018 Project Talked about in a few interviews, but according to LinkedIn and employees, it has been cancelled
NOT HAPPENING
Minecraft Story Mode I'll delete my forum account if this game gets a season 3. The minecraft ship has sailed. If releasing a Minecraft game in 2017 was unprofitable, imagine releasing one in 2019. Not to mention that S2 was the worst selling Telltale Game on both Steam and Humble Bundle. If you loved these characters, the most you can hope for is a cameo or reference in the Minecraft movie that's coming May 2019.
Guardians of the Galaxy Guardians obviously under preformed. Someone who isn't very credible told me s2 was being worked on, but was likely scrapped. (Take that with a grain of salt) It would also be hard to connect the choices from episode 5 to season 2. Interviews claim Telltale wants to avoid pre established franchises like Guardians and Game of Thrones.
Game of Thrones 2 More books, and the TV show is ending in 2019. Like MCSM, there's no point to make a GOT game when GOT is irrelevent by the time the game is ready. Multiple LinkedIn/IMBD profiles claim it is canned. Interviews claim Telltale wants to avoid pre established franchises like Guardians and Game of Thrones.
Comments
I would really not put Borderlands so high up there.
Just because they mention an article about the game's music doesn't mean that it has anything to do with a season 2. Most likely it has more relevance with the first game, since it's being given out for free through the Twitch Prime subscription right now.
While I'd love sequels for a great many of these titles, there's no real way to know what's next. I don't think there'll be much talk of other series until later this year or possibly around the release of Wolf 2, since that may have been delayed (along with any other projects).
Speaking of other projects... Obligatory: "Would love to see an original IP, Telltale! The Super Show has been cancelled or changed, I know, but what has it become?!"
More on topic though, Guardians doesn't seem likely for a sequel. Ever. Probably because of the sales and those who overlooked it, and probably because of the freaking huge amount of choices to take in, and how some may not work (Peter's mom on an adventure? Can't really picture it.)
I'd love to see them return to classic franchises. Either another Poker Night, A Jurassic Park/World thing, or the almighty duo of Sam and Max. Telltale needs to bring back their roots, bring new players like me into the fold.
Game of Thrones... oof. I don't know. Could be just on the backburner (again), or could be completely scrapped, but I'd have liked for it to continue.
Were MCSM2's sales really that low?! I thought it would have been profitable. I expect they'd continue it, but not for another year at least. Either way don't think I would want another one, since I didn't really enjoy the world and logic of Season 2.
Batman, there's got to be a No. 3. Please Mr. Hawley, consider it. Season 2 is the game that brought back a lot of fans' faith, and the team did really good work with the Batman and Telltale formula. There's so much untapped potential, that one more season isn't enough for the wealth of ideas that could happen.
If anything, I think Telltale should have a better plan or structure for getting the most out of each series, and to keep them relevant. Make more miniseries, or a spinoff for some of them. Experiment with longer or shorter seasons (episode count). 5 episodes can sometimes be too much or too little, and I think having those restrictions limits the full potential of creativity of writing a story.
Just a thought.
MCSM S2 probably has better sales on Xbox, only looking on Steam isn’t enough to say the sales are too low.
MC, Tales and GOT could still have more seasons. But It is too soon to say, there isn’t much to speculate we just have to wait.
I am pretty sure we won’t get Guardians S2 at all.
I really hope Batman gets a sequel, there is still so much to explore in this universe.
I’d say every game has a chance, bad sales doesn’t always mean no sequel
With guardians the main reason telltale chose this ip was because it’s format fits well with telltales formula and to coincide with the movie
Whether there’s a sequel or not my not be up to telltale, marvel could request they do one to coincide with vol.3
I don’t really know about a Minecraft sequel but every SINGLE comment section I go to whether its YouTube, steam, some game site, everyone wants a season 3, but does telltale?
With borderlands/Bttf/sam and max/poker night, I doubt a sequel is something they’ve not considered until very recently, as for the past few years they spent so much time spit balling new games they haven’t really thought out how to continue old ones.
Although Randy Pitchford of gearbox did recently say that they have “several borderlands related projects floating around”. Keep in mind they’re also creating a movie, so idk
With batman yes there could be a season 3 the question is do we really want it?
I’ve always compared telltales batman games to Christopher Nolan’s dark knight trilogy
The first installment was ok
The second was incredible mainly because of the joker
The third was just meh because the joker sent such a high bar the previous installment
So the question is will season 3 have the joker and if it does, would it be worth it ?
Game of Thrones will be irrelevant? I simply cannot disagree more. There are many fans of the game who loved it and are still waiting for a season 2 after season 1 ended on a Cliffhanger and were told that there would be a season 2 and we deserve a season 2.
Would have to disagree with Borderlands being so high up, Batman Season 3 is way more likely at the moment.
One time Telltale tweeted in 2015 "#SeeYouARound" on the one year anniversary of Wolf S1 Ep 2 and we all thought that meant Wolf S2 was confirmed, but nothing happened. Tales from the Borderlands 2 I would put under maybe, it probably wont happen until Borderlands 3 comes out (which is probably going to get a lot of info at E3 this year)
Personally I think Tales S2 will happen... eventually, so I'll give it a maybe leaning more towards happening, it just wont happen for a while. But for now, I would switch Batman with Tales, a Batman Season 3 at the moment is more likely.
Well Telltale's Game of Thrones got mediocre reviews and I think half the reason S2 is canned is because HBO didnt like the sales. I mean that whole interview about Tales from the Borderlands not making as much as a profit as hoped for happened, and Tales sold better than GoT. If anything I think S2 isnt happening because mediocre reviews plus not being as big as planned. And yeah in all honesty if Season 2 releases after the show ends it will become pretty irrelevant for the casual audience.
Just a side not, Season 2's announcement is still the weirdest thing I have ever seen. Announced on some nobody website and then no info about the game ever since, but has now been leaked multiple times to be canceled.
Didn’t GOT sell better than Tales on console? I am pretty sure it did
We can’t really say for sure, on steamspy yes borderlands surpassed game of thrones, but that’s just one platform, they also release games on five other platforms.but back then both games also released on ps3 and 360 so that’s about eight platforms in total, so we may never know.
Telltale stated that a got season 2 was planned really because that what there license would dictate but that was 3 years ago and game of thrones is ending and just isn’t as popular as it once was, so something might have changed
As a fan of MCSM, I really would prefer they not do a S3. As a former Minecraft fangirl I hate to say this, but... Minecraft is kinda dead now. Fortnite is the new thing. Doing S3 would be kinda irrelevant now; for the story itself and sales.
"Fortnite is the new thing"
Are you a 4th grader
No, I'm a 9th grader who happens to notice EA and Activision's stocks are being affected by a free game:
https://www.investors.com/news/technology/click/video-game-publisher-stocks/
Furthermore, I also happened to have observed that there are more Fortnite videos than Minecraft videos after being out for roughly half a year (as opposed to Minecraft gaining popularity in 2013). Probably that stupid clickbait guy Ali-A...
One last thing: will you idiots please stop assuming my age just because I play games (unfortunately) overpopulated by 10-year-olds?
