And then, in the middle of the night, dark shadows will fall upon his grave as a group of Monkey Island Fanatics (MIFs) descend upon it with shovels. They will dig up his coffin, pry it open, and then hold aloft a single bone in the air as lightning strikes around them and their trousers fall down...

Heh, I'm pretty sure 1UP hadn't planned on unveiling this video yet. They were going to do it in a few hours, actually.

I think Ron said once that he has a document with the secret in it. He said it will be read at his funeral in the event he dies without making the last monkey island game to conclude the series and reveal everything. Probably just joking though. Imagine though, hundreds of people would probably just show up to hear the secret. Not to say their wouldn't be a lot of grief either.

The secret is what you need to add to a game to keep the cult following rabid after nearly 20 years and 4 sequels.

that it's all just a computer game

that's more common knowledge than secret...

..anyway, i am pretty sure that dave grossman knows the secret. he was working with gilbert on the first two games and i can't imagine gilbert never talked about his plans. even if not, he probably has enough knowledge to have a good idea, what ron gilbert was up to.

the secret is that the whole thing is actually a real life theme park. And guybrush is an imaginative flooring inspector, and herman toothrot is a glorified night watchman.

I think the secret is that Guybrush never actually had a barber named Dominique.

You know what, throughout watching that video one thing got stuck in my mind: I just wanted to...shave them! I mean, what was that, the clandestine meeting of Funny Beards? I just wanted to jump in there, hold Dave Grossman down, and shave that little beard of his off! Is it some sort of fashion statement that they all grow the pointy beards, or is it that they need them to contain the Game Developer Brain Extension or something? Aerials for contacting the Overmind? I just need to shave them! :'(

Wow! Don't you mess with these guys' looks. They're geniuses! They could use a pirate patch and they would still be cool. And I think Dave is trying to grow a Guybrush beard! :-P

Pity there's no Ash2Life in the real world. Besides, I think his family would turn the gas off to stop the reminders.

Actually, there was a pirate connection. My family was having "Caribbean Easter" that year (we do a different culinary theme each year), and several of us dressed up as pirates. I grew some scruffy facial hair for it, because I look more piratey that way. Afterwards I shaved most of it off, but kept the silly chin part for fun. I liked tugging on it for some reason.

Fear not, though, I got tired of it and shaved it off after a few months or so. I remember Heather and Emily commented "It's about time," and nobody else even noticed.

Did I hear Noah Falstein say the secret has something to do with being "underground?"

Which, of course, in a pirate-themed game could be anything...

The secret of Monkey Island is that Ron Gilbert wrote Curse, Escape, and Tales, and hasn't told anybody and specifically requested that he be left out of the credits unless he is credited simply as "visiting professor of monkeyology"

I think the Secret of Monkey Island refers to the 3 headed monkeys and the Island itself, the voodoo curse, etc...
The Secret of Monkey Island is all that happens in the first game.
Than they carried it on to the next games as a legend but I think it really doesn't exist (anymore) ;)

But in the game itself, it is said that both LeChuck and Herman went to look for the Secret, so it must have been something that existed, somewhere, somehow...

I can look for the tooth fairy, doesn't mean she exists.
