The idea of Telltale making soap operas into serious games without any point of reference is about as appealing to me as a FPS game rated "EC". Telltale's awesome at what they do, and while even I admit CSI was a good game from Telltale, the CSI games themselves were a small group of good adventure/mystery games that didn't quite recieve the attention they deserved from their original developer, Ubisoft, when Telltale took the series under it's wing. Unless the soap opera in question has already been made into a game, I really don't see them adapting one from scratch. Instead, I'd keep my eyes peeled for good game series that either fell through the cracks, or that their developers clearly wouldn't mind parting with.
... Um?
Again, nobody said Telltale was making a soap opera game.

Except almost everone else in this thread. *sigh* At any rate, I'd be quite willing to bet all their other seiries will have a second season before they start making another new series, otherwise I expect they'll find themselves overloaded with expectations. We probably won't see this new, serious series until late 2012, which gives us plenty of time to speculate.

1) No, no-one is saying that Telltale is making soap opera games.
2) I'm willing to bet all my belongings that we'll see the new series before 2012.
I stand by my "Um?". Nobody... I repeat, nobody, said TT + soaps = happening.
*sigh* Literalists. First off, on the matter of people saying TTG's next series will be a soap opera, I don't mean that their claiming that it will happen- I mean they've so far only considered that particular possibility, or rather that they have high hopes for it, and all I've said is that it's highly unlikely.
Secondly, I do not mean it's a certain thing that if TTG is planning a serious game, it will happen Q2 2012- what I do mean is that it'll fill up TTG's already-large "to-do" list- I really don't see them introducing yet another new series, much less a radically different one, while S&M fans have been begging for the third season for quite some time now. In other words, all I'm saying is that it's highly unlikely.
And, just so we're clear, I repeat: All I've said is it's highly unlikely!

Reread the article I quoted in the first post - it clearly says that TTG is going to announce new titles (plural) very soon, and that these announcements will be a combination of new seasons of established titles - I'm guessing Sam & Max - and new franchises.
I am glad at this, hoping Telltale keeps up with consistency when they tackle 3+ series at a time. You could see TOMI LOTSN and W&G BM had little glitches due to having two things in focus at once. I think Once Telltale gets used to this concept, they could really become the greatest developers IN THE WORLD!!!

Oh, well that increases the likelyhood from 15% to 45%*, meaning it's quite possible, but the outlook is still slightly against it (it was only a hint in the article, after all- no guarentees).
*Actual statictics may vary. Don't call me on that one, knit-pickers!
I'd also be interested in a Dr Who game. I'd LOVE for some inventory object like the "timey-wimey detector" (especially since something like that might involve some creative inventory combos).
I mean, they're game company...they need to make games, I think it's good for telltale, to branch and try new genres, it's not like they will be giving up on adventure games.

On what are you basing your notion that the "outlook is still slightly against it"? Telltale boss Dan Connors clearly says that Telltale will reveal several new titles within the next few months, of which at least one is probably* not a traditional comedy adventure. Just making up figures and numbers (and then complaining that people comment said numbers) is pointless.
Compy, I hope you don't gamble because your probability calculations are way off.
“I think there’ll be some combination of things. I think we’ll be sticking with some of the franchises we’ve worked with, and we’ll be announcing some new franchises, probably in some new genres as well, not just comedy.”
If the head of a studio says something like this, it doesn't mean 'probably'. It means, 'definitely'. There's no point of giving such a statement without it actually being true. And if it's not comedy, then it has to be more serious.
About the release date - they don't announce new titles and then just forget about them. When you make an announcement about a new franchise, it's marketing 101 that you cash in on the hype. Episode one of that new franchise will most definitely be out in 2010.

*Probably = more than 50%
*sigh* I try and I try and try, but you just don't get it. I'll put it into wiki terms:

On the contrary, if you'd read that quote of yours, I'd like to point out the use of the words probably... and I think.... When a head of company says that, along with a vauge timeline (namely "sometime soon") and only promicing an announcement soon, it's marketing 101 to say that if it releases soon, so will Homestar Runner RPG someday see the light of day. Look, I'm not saying it's impossible, or even that it's extremely unlikely. Just don't start writing hate messages because they "broke their 'promise'".
Don't get your hopes up. Absolutely nothing has been "promised" only "hinted". I'll explain below.

You should lay off that condescending attitude. I never used the words "promised" or "hinted", that you have been kind enough to put quotation marks around. I have not jumped to any conclusions here, other than posting exactly what the interview on VG247 says - go on, look at my first post again. The only cases of jumping to conclusions in this thread is your anti TTG soap-opera post and your "no new series before every other series has a new season and not before 2012"-post.
Call me literalist or layman or a potential hate message writer and talk to me in wiki-language all you want, but everyting I have said in this thread has been rooted in the VG247 interview, while you have been making outrageous claims and dropping made-up numbers all along.

I'm sorry, but I don't understand this sentence at all. Seems to me like you lost your train of thought after the second comma.
As I said, people in a position like Connors don't go about giving statements to the media hinting to new games without there being something in the works.
i reckon TTG are doing broken sword. Charles cecil has hinted at the wiiware model veing something he wants to get into, and they outsource lots of stuff to other devs now, so it makes sense.
I think "serious" would work if done right, because who knows? You could end-up with gaming's The Wire or something. You could even end-up with a blend of serious and comic, like In Bruges or Fargo.
Please whatever you do, nobody should touch Grim Fandango. It is finished and it's a classic.
I (respectfully) disagree. Although the story of Manny and Meche is over, the actual world is too rich and interesting for just one story. You could write a direct sequel about the other characters - and there's plenty of ideas for those - or, you could go around and make-up an entirely new and (mostly) disconnected story, but set in the same universe. The difference between Casablanca and Grim Fandango is that Casablanca had only one story to tell.
Whose to say the new franchise(s) won't be original?
I'm willing to bet that TTG's past work on CSI games has inspired them enough to bring their own ideas to the drama/suspense genre. I'm interested to find out what these new titles will be when October rolls around.
In this case I think it takes one to know one. No offense, every one has the right to be their-selves and everyone has has the right to be subjective and to personalize their selves from the way they perceive others and from the way they object to other people based on how they are interrelated to those people. It's purely functional for you to be yourself so that others can be their selves, everyone needs a frame of reference and vise versa and it's all in how we perceive the relationship. You make your own assumptions about others because you're you.
So to be honest I do think you're one of those people that you mentioned but that's based on my perspective through a life time and based on who I am as well. In actual fact I don't think my comment really applies to you at all, there's too much personal space in between. Though I still say you know him so well because you have a lot in common.
I felt like ranting, for more reasons than to just talk to you though, so don't take this too personally. I just thought I'd put my opinion down from earlier comments made by others in this thread. I'm not targeting you specifically, I'm speaking my mind the way it's been programmed. It's purely my opinion which can't truly over view you, there for it's not even truly personal to you. Certain aspects are targeted but purely in the sense of who i am and how I perceive and validate certain qualities in others. in you, not who you are. The point is that "we" are being judgmental in this thread of each other.
Is it just me, or are you just ranting about yourself?
With that I was actually implying you were a hypocrite, but whatever.
I mean, sure, you might have a cruddy childhood, but that doesn't give you the right to act all smug about yourself and think you're better than the rest. Heck, I even had a crap-past, but you don't see me bragging about that.
Also, I believe you rather missed the point of Rather Dashing's username, seeing as...
Well, if "Rather Homely" doesn't give you a fair hint...
Nothing wrong with 'serious' games, and I don't see why anyone would assume that serious = soap opera... I can think of a number of non comedy adventure games that were great: Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade The Dig, Full Throttle, Broken Sword series, and those are just the ones off the top of my head.

Pucca maybe becouse she don't any game?
Or could be the Mr Men and Littlle Misses you can chose play on his book verson or verson of The Mr Men Show
Or could the best of everyone Grim Fandango

Serious ideas I would like as a game:
Blade Runner
Loom
Legend of Kyrandia (or a more serious version)
The Dig
can't think about much else really
