Telltale if you don't want people spoiling you'll have to Pull the Steam Demo.

edited August 2018 in The Walking Dead

The Steam Demo is letting people spoil the game. At this rate it'll have to be rewritten. I don't want that to happen, so please Pull the Steam Demo for the love of God. Hell, delay the Steam version to remove spoilers if you have to.

Comments

  • What's the point? They data-mined everything they could from demo. There is no more secrets they can find as appearantly it contained only spoilers for episode 1. All the spoilers are already on the internet.

  • There is no point in pulling it now, two days before release. End things were only spoiled for episode 1 and a little bit of episode 2, there is no point in rewriting it either.

  • They aren't going to rewrite the series anyway based on what their Tumblr post regarding spoilers implies. Their reaction was essentially; "well that sucks. Just make sure to not spoil it for people who don't want them"

    It won't happen.

  • Understandable, considering how the Season 2 finale wound up. Still it doesn't change the fact that releasing the Steam Demo was a mistake.

  • It was but since the demo spoiled only episode 1, its impossible 2-4 days before the release to rewrite the story of this episode. They'd have to delay the release which I can guess would piss off the fans even more.

They could at least delay the Steam version to remove any further spoilers.

I meant in case the Subsequent Episodes have Additional Spoilers in them.

  • it's because instead of releasing a demo they released episode one but all they did was lock the rest of episode ones chapters, so every model, voice line, image, animation etc for episode one is all in there you just cant unlock the game to make it play out. They would've finished episode one ages ago and there's already stuff for episode two in there as well, they're probably making episode three at the moment

  • Ah tha! I think after that demo incident, they have spent this couple of days making sure that other episodes don't contain any spoilers for the next ones.

  • Hey man why u guna do us pc players dirty like that?we want to play it as soon as possible you know...best way to avoid being spoiled is to not browse reddit and twitter.....simple.

  • It doesnt matter anymore, its already been out there now. It just means they shouldnt do a PC demo for future games, or atleast remove things that could spoil if someone datamines (but id prefer if they do the former)

My question is why it was this easy to data-mine the demo. The information it has given could cause problems later on for TTG. Probably should have had some better encryption there.

It really shouldn't be this easy. Makes me think that somebody is setting up false information just to screw with us. Oh, theories.

Agreed. I couldn't even get into the files even with the correct software.

It usually isn't so much a problem. Since this info never comes out before release, but with the PC demo that usual episode 1 content has now been spreading through the web. Unless Telltale releases a episode 2 demo (pffft) we should be fine for the remainder of the season. Live and learn.

  • It isnt really big deal. The real game and choices starts after the demo, then it is really interasting

Inclined to agree. Outside of gameplay being posted by douchebag youtubers who got the episode early, I don't remember many issues with ANF despite being distributed the same way.

  • Anyone who knows how datamine, can datamine. Its pretty simple if you know how to, and no it isnt people making up lies to trick people.

It probably wont cause any issues later on at all. Every episode people go int he files and can maybe find a few unused things for the next episode, but nothing major. The only reason this is a issue is because the demo is basically episode 1, but they make it so it ends after the opening scene, but in the actual files almost the entire episode is there. This wont be an issue for future episodes.

  • I can confirm that the info isn't fake (plus its too much effort for telltale to go and fake coding and images just to fuck with people) and it's really not that hard to datamine the game.

But like Poogs said, the only reason so much was found in the demo is because it was the full episode (but locked after a certain area). Future episodes won't have this much of a problem.

  • Can you answer me one thing? Did spoilers only revealed the whole episode 1 or there were bits of info on future episodes? I just want to know if I should still watch out after the episode premieres.

It was just episode 1 (minus character dialogue - I never found it at least) and a few things in episode 2.

Unless you count achievements, the other 2 episodes are still spoiler free.

Edit: Would like to just add for people worried about episode 2, that it was only a few things and like 90% of the episode isn't leaked. So there probably won't be many spoilers regarding that episode.

  • Good. Glad to hear it.

  • its really annoying that they left all 5 major choices for episode one in notepad folder inside My Documents

  • well, just don't look there
