Will Monkey Island be a location?

I remember reading in a interview that they would maybe put just one old location in TMI (emphasis on MAYBE) so i was wondering if Monkey island will be that location.

I would be very sad if they don't incluye the island. After all,it gives the franchise it name and has appeared in every MI game so far.

Though I'm not all for using too many locations and characters from older games, I must agree. Not using the island that the whole series circles around would make it feel more like a spin-off.

My guts tell me that the lair of the Leviathan is Monkey Island, but that could very well be wrong... Let's just hope they're creative.

    Monkey Island 2 is a spin-off?

MI 2 used tunnels between Monkey and Dinky, so in some way, Monkey Island was featured.

That was a CMI retcon. When the game was released, nothing indicated that Dinky was connected to Monkey Island through tunnels.

I think putting in the island would seem a little forced. I could very easily enjoy the game without the island being featured, especially since all the new locations have proven to be far better. The story tends to get a little wacky when on Monkey Island what with the giant monkey robot, talking monkeys, and carnival.

I would only want it to be there if it has a very heavy story connection. Otherwise it would be forced and be nothing but fan service. It being included for the sake of being included because it's a monkey island game would be very lame. I would rather there be mentions of it and it can be a part of the story, but it doesn't have to be explored. Maby just have some more back story or something to suit the title, "Tales of Monkey Island".

God no, I'm sick to death of that place. It was great in the first game: mysterious, atmospheric, begging to be explored. But ever since then the games tend to go to hell whenever they reach Monkey Island. Curse, for instance, was almost perfect up to that point (Chapter 1-4 are bloody fantastic) but as soon as it shows up we're faced with annoying retcons, stupid explanations for the previous game's ending, and bad Disneyland parodies. And as for Escape, I rather liked Jambalaya, but damn if Monkey Island wasn't the most boring, soulless place in that game.

I think it'd be too obvious, "wink-wink"y and cheesy to include Monkey Island in the games.

Which is why I sort of expect it, lol

Yeah, but this is defiantly a much more epic feeling game. There may not be a lot of room for obvious and cheesy cliches. Then again, who knows. I think not having the island at all would be great and prove that the actual island doesn't have to be included to make a great game. It's done incredible so far and not even a mention has been made about that god forsaken spit of land.

Meh. Monkey Island was probably my least favorite location in SOMI (least stuff to interact with, too much running back and forth, etc). I'm not really attached to it. Wouldn't mind if it was done interestingly, though. For the record, while I consider EMI to be inferior (though still fun in it's own respect), I found Monkey Island to be more fun in that game than in SOMI (except for Monkey Kombat, and the giant monkey robot).

For the record, I don't think any islands should be revisited. Escape managed to make Melee pretty dull as well, when the original Melee is one of the best islands in the series.

No, Herman says nothing about how he ended up on Dinky in MI2.

Are you sure? I could swear that Herman mentions it in MI2. But, it has been a while since I played it last, so...

Holy cow, If they ever do a MI2:SE with voice acting, someone would have alot of work with all the colours.

To stay on topic, I think we've seen those islands and I don't think we should revisit them without a good reason. The only old island I want to see is Jambalaya, because I'm curious to see how it reverted into a real pirate island, something we never seen before. He's the only island I remember that can be revisited and improved.

and the 999999 bottles of beer song

I was thinking that myself when I was playing it a couple weeks ago. If anything proved impossible to do in the SE, it would be that. Would make the color conversation look downright wimpy by comparison. They'd have to simply cut that one out of the game entirely; I doubt it could be done any other way.

Not if the 99999 part was read by the computerized voice of John PC or Alex Mac. :P

Also, there are an awful lot of books in the library to say, "The Life and Times of Guybrush Threepwood. I'll have to remember that." and so on. If they decide to do a MI2:SE (which I hope they will), Dominic Armato will have his work cut out for him.

"Hal Barwood on Monkey 2: 'You can't polish a turd.' "
    :D

I don't think that the "Monkey Island" in the title would pose a problem in leaving it out. It wasn't in MI2. Also, I agree that the Monkey Island scene in CMI was the most uninspired of the whole game.

In every episode of "Tales" yet, we had a jungle sequence. I hope that this does not continue, and I definitly hope that this will not be topped by the "ultimate" jungle of Monkey Island in the last part.

I would like to return to Monkey Island - maybe in season 2 of the "Tales", when there is a way to naturally incorporate the island into the storyline.

It's been NINE YEARS since we've seen Monkey Island. Who knows what's happened there since EMI? I don't think it would be that difficult to incorporate it into the story, and honestly, I think I'd like to visit "the ol' stomping grounds."

Honestly, Monkey Island, the island, gets old very fast. Perhaps I'm just super jaded by EMI. But, I find the puzzles etc whilst on the island incredibly tedious and a bit forced in most every game.

I think Monkey Island was the best thing in EMI, I loved the atmosphere and I want Tales to revisit that. They can make some new places to show what has changed since then. Most of Tales seems to be an homage to the old series so it would be weird if Monkey Island itself was missing.
