Guybrush to be deleted on Wikipedia?!

Help Save the Threepwood!

(also, if TTG would donate a © free image of him for inclusion on the page, that would be cool)

There should be an article, but it should be a lot shorter. Reiterating parts of each Monkey Island game doesn't make sense, since the Monkey Island games are about Guybrush Threepwood. All thats really necessary is to link to the Monkey Island article from the Guybrush Threepwood article, or simply make it a re-direct. Or make an general article called Characters in Monkey Island, and re-direct to that from a query on Guybrush Threepwood.

But I don't really care anymore about fighting over Wikipedia articles anyway, its a waste of time.

Guybrush's original middle name was Ulysses?

    Start with this article,

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_of_Monkey_Island

and under the 'Characters' section, link to a new article 'Characters in Monkey Island',

then have Guybrush Threepwood redirect to that.

Whoa. I didn't even look that link up.

Okay, in all fairness, also Elaine and LeChuck are/were nominated for deletion on Wikipedia.

The article seems really cluttered and poorly written... An article on Monkey Island should really suffice.

The wiki-nazi are pretty hellbent on making wikipedia articles as concise and to the point as possible. Pop culture references are being deleted left and right.

It's very poorly written. Let it die.

It's a shame, because trivia like that used to be the most interesting part of any Wikipedia page.

Sorry, as much as I consider Guybrush a prominant figure in gaming, I don't think he needs his own page like that, it could easily be merged with the main MI article. That being said, if we're going to start deleting character pages like that, why do we need one for Sonic, or Solid Snake?

If they're going to be deleting character pages, do it for all of them. I don't see why the information on Sonic's page is anymore necessary than Guybrush's

I'll have to agree. What little information is there in that article could easily be moved over to a general MI article.

Of course I'd like a great article on Guybrush, but if it just mirrors stuff from the main MI article (along with personal opinion), a redirect is more appropriate.

There's always the Monkey Island wiki, where Guybrush will never ever get deleted. :)

It's probably easier to justify the existence of Sonic's page, as he has many more appearances in many more forms of media. While Guybrush only appears in five computer games, Sonic is in countless video games, comic books, two TV shows, etc.

It's a conspiracy- Wikipedia is run by ninjas.

    Ninjapedia is a fun word.

So, in all fariness, if Guybrush is deleted, so shall for instance Jack Sparrow, who only appeared in three movies. And how about Forrest Gump (who appart from the book and the film also has his own character page), or Gordon Gekko? Or Thomas A. Anderson (alias Neo)...

    ...the list goes on...

in short, there are alot of fictional characters with not-so-many appearances who have their own pages. Sure, Neo is an icon, and so is Gordon Gekko, but who says Guybrush isn't, at least for our generation? :)

as a footnote, I haven't really read the article on Guybrush. Maybe it is poorly written and should be removed. I just felt like looking up who had and who hadn't got their own pages.

    Four TV shows...

Gordon Freeman has his own Wiki page. Surely that would mean Guybrush should have his own too?

There are many characters to use as examples.

    Four TV shows...

Shows you how in-touch I am these days. :P

And tmfm2000, those other characters you mentioned are far more visible in mainstream popular culture than Guybrush is. If you asked ten random people on the street (depending on where you live), you might be lucky to find one who's heard of Monkey Island.

I'm not saying I don't agree that Guybrush is just as worthy of his own article, and he's a character with just as many complexities as the others. I'm merely looking at it from the perspective of The Big Bosses at Wikipedia, who no doubt still try to think of themselves as a source of Important Information, even though a good chunk of their popularity comes from their catalogue of Pop-Culture Trivia.

    Four TV shows...

Yeah, the adventures of sonic the hedgehog, SOAT(is that how you abbrivieate it) Sonic Underground, and Sonic X.

Personally I don't like the fact that on Wikipedia there are more articles on Star Trek characters than on WWII. But that's how it is, so I'm not arguing.

The only reason in this case I don't think Guybrush should have a whole article is because there's not enough to write about him that will different from the Monkey Island article--its redundant. Better just create an article on Monkey Island characters.
