What brought you to Telltale and what was your favourite moment?

edited September 2018 in General Chat

Since the company's going under I just thought it'd be a good idea for people to share a bit before everything is finalised.

What brought you to Telltale Games and what's been your favourite moment involving Telltale (in game/real life)?

I first heard of Telltale in 2011 when they announced The Walking Dead game. I remember being pretty annoyed with it and was complaining to people I knew about how "Why the hell are they making a point and click game for The Walking Dead? And it's just about some rando and a kid? Pffft sounds terrible! They should've made a first person shooter!"

But then the game actually came out and... I really liked it. I was hooked. I didn't have the game yet and simply watched it on YouTube but I thought it was really cool! Then a couple months passed and the second episode was out. Watched that and I knew that I just needed to get it. So I did. And I loved it. I only joined the forums in 2014 when The Wolf Among Us came out but only really became active in 2015 while Tales from the Borderlands was going on.

My favourite moment involving in an episode would have to be with Lee pushing his way through a horde of walkers to save the little girl we've all come to know and love, or when Rhys and the gang formed a Megazord to fight the Traveller. Outside of that it'd have to be talking with you guys :)

Thank you to @AChicken, @ClemyClooAndBabyboo, @MetallicaRules , @freelancepolicefan11, @Blind Sniper, @InGen_Nate_Kenny, @Poogers555, @dojo32161, @Cocoa2736 (and many more) and of course everyone at Telltale for all the laughter and tears for the past few years.

Love ya'll <3.

  • Like many, it was The Walking Dead that got me here, and it has been a life changing experience in more ways than one. It introduced me to this great company, it got me into gaming in general, I started a Youtube channel to have a place to put my play throughs of Telltale and other material, and I met a lot of great people through my time here on the forums. So to hear the news is a huge blow, and I just don't fully know how to respond.

From the bottom of my heart, I want to thank each and every one of you, from my early days and making me feel welcomed when I have seldom felt before, to now after getting the chance to talk to so many great people. Whatever happens, I will always cherish my times here and the memories of playing Telltale games.

  • The Walking Dead Season One, I remember just scrolling through Xbox Live Marketplace and seeing that the first Episode was free and I got really hooked to it and I have a small youtube channel where I dedicate to Telltale Games too.

    3.The Wolf Among Us
    4.Walking Dead season 2
    5. Batman Enemy Within

  • The first games I ever played from TellTale Games was the Sam & Max games. I remember at the end of season 3 during the credits Sam was so sad that Max had died. I kept on thinking it can't end this way. I know it is just a game but I was sad too. I guess I am stupid. My old computer with the games broke. So I guess I wont be able to play them again because my new computer is a chromebook and it wont let me download the games.

  • As far as Telltale is concerned, I started here in August 2007, but my relationship with Telltale actually goes back further than that.

I first got interested in Telltale when they announced they were going to make a Sam & Max game, once Steve Purcell's exclusive contract expired with LucasArts. I really liked their original game, Sam & Max Hit The Road (did I mention I go back a ways?), and I was excited when LucasArts announced they would be making a sequel. Until they canceled the project and just sat on the rights to Sam & Max, not letting anyone else take it over. That's why we had to wait 'til those rights expired, reverting back to Steve Purcell, which he then licensed to young episodic adventure company Telltale Games.

Back then, I had dialup Internet, and even though the games were a lot smaller than they are now, I couldn't bring myself to tie up the phone line for hours for them to download, if I was lucky enough for the connection to stay up that long. So I waited for the Season 1 Bonus DVD before playing, and I got some other cool merchandise, too, like the soundtrack, bonus knick-knacks, Max shot glass, and some other things. By the way, that DVD was playable in a regular DVD player connected to a TV, which I was grateful for one day when I was so sick I could barely move. I just watched all the commentaries, and my wife was amazed I was getting just one DVD to last so long.

I joined the forums in May 2008. My "WarpSpeed" handle comes from the "Warp Drive" feature in Sam & Max Season 1, an interesting setting that apparently does nothing, though the Telltale staff never confirmed that. Since then, I've interacted from people all over the world in all walks of life. I've seen users go from kids to teenagers to college and beyond. I've seen Puzzlebox go from gal in Australia to moderator to U.S. resident to Telltale employee to mom. I've seen people gain new jobs and relationships. I've seen people cope with uncertainty and mental health issues, sometimes turning out well, sometimes not. Most of all, though, I've seen people love the same games and stories I did, and that's why I've stayed here so long after so many others have left.

I don't want to join Discord. I've been down this road before, when something goes away, and the people left behind want to find another way to keep in touch, and everyone means well, but it has never worked out for me. I'll stay on these forums a while longer, if they stay up, but it's probably way past time for me to fade away as well.

    Live Long and Prosper.

You were one of my favorite old-school Telltale members, and it'll suck to not see you around as much. It was always nice to chat! :)

  • My favorite moment was THE LAST TWO F#@%ING EPISODES OF THE FINAL SEASON OF TWD.

NOW SOMEBODY SAVE THIS GAME FOR THE LOVE OF CLEMENTINE!!

  • This is actually really sad. I know I give Telltale a ton of shit but its really unfair this happened, they were doing so much better recently. Really sucks for the employees too, just losing your job like that.

Im really bummed about Wolf S2, I was looking forward to that game so damn much. Maybe its for the better, I dont know. This is just really depressing.

Gonna miss all of you and all the talks and discussions we have here (even though Im sure some of yall will be happy about that lmao) This is probably sappy as fuck but this place has been great even in the bad times. Really gonna miss it.

  • Oh my god your never gonna get your Rhys Socks, I always held out hope that one day you would. :(

  • I know RIP the dream

Maybe Telltale will at least release a picture of Season 2 Bigby. That would be a nice send off. Please Telltale, I just want to see a peak of what could have been ;'(

  • Walking Dead is what brought me to Telltale, I remember watching Good Game and that's how I found out about the Walking Dead and I got hooked because of the story and the characters and that went on for the next 3 seasons.
Later on I discovered the Wolf Among Us and decided to play it and I became obsessed with the game. Then Telltale released Batman and I was so happy and it became one of my favourite Batman stories.
My favourite moment would either be Lee walking through the horde to get to Clementine, Bigby's last fight against Bloody Mary or the friendship that was made with Bruce/Batman and John/Joker.

I'm going to miss Telltale, they made some of my favourite games

  • This would never have happend if you just got your Rhys socks

  • I had just played Mass Effect 2, and I wanted to play games of the same style of choices and consequences until I found TWD from TTG and I was fascinated I could not stop playing, I also played the wolf amoung us and batman and GOT. I can not name a favorite moment because everyone was memorable the suspense that I get in the wolf, the end of Clem, the investigations of Batman, and the wars of GOT.

  • For me, it goes back a bit further.
I was one of the handful that really enjoyed Telltale's work back when they were working on the CSI games. Even with a could easily be considered a shovelware license, they were turning out some really engaging stories and gameplay.

Then the Bone series sucked me in.

And then Telltale announced they were bringing back Sam and Max.That cemented years of buying everything Telltale put out on release, from the Sam and Max series to Wallace and Gromit, Tales of Monkey Island, Strong Bad, Puzzle Agent, Poker Night, Back to the Future, etc.

Until the "new" Telltale came along. I've played the occasional game from them, but it wasn't really the same even though it was clear they still had people very talented at telling stories.

I like to think I didn't leave Telltale; they left me. I've always held out hope that they'd eventually get tired of the cookie-cutter releases with huge licenses and go back to making actual adventure games, but I guess it just wasn't meant to be.

  • For me it was Wallace & Gromit’s Grand Adventures.

Being British & a long time fan of the Franchise from A Grand Day Out as a kid, to A Matter of Loaf & Death as an Adult, I heard that there was going to be a new Episodic Video Game coming out.

I managed to snag codes for all 4 Episodes from a mate, to review for his site, and from then on, I was hooked.

They took me back to the days of the Broken Sword & Monkey Island Games on the PC, and from that moment on, I loved Telltale. They brought back point & click, but in successful 3D environments & despite framerate issues that have affected their games for a long time, I still loved & supported them on their journey up to now.

While Sam & Max, and W&G were successful, it was The Walking Dead that really put them on the Map, and I still remember playing Season One 6 years ago, and falling in love with Lee & Clementine as they set me off on a journey of so many emotions to this day (and hopefully beyond).

I joined some version of these forums in August of 2005 (I think - somehow I ended up with several logins). That was prompted by the first Bone game.

Honestly though my original interest was driven by news that Telltale was working on a Sam and Max game. My wife still has on her bookshelf the boxed copy of Sam & Max Hit the Road that we played together when it first came out. We had such a great time working through that game. It's no surprise with that background that our favorite Telltale games were the three Sam and Max seasons. I can't point to a particular part of those games that really resonated with us. We just loved seeing that "hyperkinetic rabbity thing" bounding around the screen again.

  • It was either Jurassic Park or Season 1 of the Walking Dead, many years ago, either way, I loved it, and I've been coming here for more ever since.

And by the way, it was nice to know you friend. I hope one day our paths will cross again, it's been a pleasure pal.

  • I was a fan of Telltale way back when they were first founded, since I was really looking forward to Sam & Max: Freelance Police, which was cancelled at LucasArts and was the reason that Telltale was founded - since Telltale was founded by the Freelance Police Team.

I skipped Telltale Texas Hold'em (although I bought it later), bought Bone: Out From Boneville, then bought all of Telltale's games - usually even for different versions/systems.

My favorite remains Wallace & Gromit's Grand Adventures, though I really enjoyed Strong Bad's Cool Game For Attractive People, the Sam & Max seasons, Tales from The Borderlands, The Wolf Among Us, and the first season of The Walking Dead.

  • The Walking Dead
    The Wolf Amoung Us
    Tales From the Borderlands

  • I've been a fan of Telltale, probably around since like 2008 or so. I played a free Episode of Sam and Max Season 1 on Steam while pursuing the demo/free game section, and I thought the idea of "interactive TV style games" was cool.

Around 2010 or 2011, Telltale had this big press event where they announced a bunch of future games, including Walking Dead and Fables (later Wolf Among Us), and the idea just kind of clicked with me. I was a lurker throughout those years, but signed up for an account around like 2011.

I didn't post a lot until I became a moderator during 2013. Despite Telltale's circumstances that led them to this point, it was really neat to see firsthand Telltale excel from a niche company to a borderline household name at the time. Especially since I had used to be a lurker who went onto to being a notable moderator, it meant a lot to me that Telltale took the chance to bring me on at such a big time for them.

On the gaming side of things, Telltale exposed me to a lot of neat universes such as Fables, Borderlands, etc. They found ways to make people cry even over silly characters like Scooter, and for that, I appreciate all the new things that Telltale exposed me to.

  • Sam & Max brought me here around March of 2007... been happy with them ever since... well, except now. Monkey Island, Back to the Future... so much great gaming memories.

My father introduced me to Sam & Max on gametap sometime in 2006 or 2007, and I've been a fan ever since. In its later years Telltale has disappointed me on more than a few occasions, but they seemed to finally be getting their act together. Which makes this..... hurt a lot more. I didn't want to see my favorite childhood studio go out like this.

  • Damn, I didn’t really use this forum a lot but when I did, it was so great to wait with you guys and discuss plot until the next episode came out lol. My favorite memory goes back as most to TWD S1, I remember downloading the demo onto my 360 one weekend with my friends in a party just wanting to try something new. I never really played point n click games before so this gameplay style was totally new to me. But then I began to grow invested into each character (most specifically, Clem) and even Larry lol. I loved that game, one of the first entertainment mediums to make me cry next to Remember The Titans. But anyways I’ve rambled on enough. I’m going to miss you Telltale, I’ve had some fond memories of crafting each one of your stories and I will always remember that (corny but I’m sad) thank you!

  • the walking dead season one. played it on my 360. changed everything i thought about gaming. i still have my walking dead s1 collector's edition, it came with a book that collected the first 48 walking dead comics. i would listen to TTG season one soundtrack while reading them. too much great moments but i gotta say Jared Emerson-Johnson music put every scene together perfectly. i'm going to miss that combo(Jared and TTG) Thank You

  • The Walking Dead season 1.

The best game they have ever made.

  • My first game was The Walking Dead. Me and my sister were not really that close, but with this game it all changed. We were talking for hours, exchanging our viewpoints and our experiences. Many awesome memories were made while we were following Clementine's story, wondering who will get killed in Westeros, trying to find out who is the killer in Fabletown, laughing our asses of while experiencing tale from the Borderlands and many more. Thanks to those games we opened up to eachother more and now we are very close.

Right now I feel the same sadness I felt in 2014 when Waystone Games announced that they have to shit down Dawngate. Up until now there is still nothing like that game. Im afraid same will happen to games from Telltale.

It is unfortunate what hapenned to this company, because this year they actually delivered quality content. I was criticising Telltale a lot last year, because I didnt want to see that happen. When a company does everything right to turn it around and its still not enough, its just heartbreaking.

I’m very old-school. I started following Telltale after they released their first poker game, Telltale Texas Hold ‘Em, but the first game of TTG I played was Bone: Out from Boneville. I am more or less stayed with them ever cents, though I haven’t played every single game. My personal favorite is Monkey Island. Of course, I’ve played the first season of TWD and loved it, but no other season came close to topping and, in my opinion. Though not every game they made was successful, I will miss this company just like any other fan. Cheers!

Edit: I guess I should elaborate on a favorite moment. Well, really, just giving me one more (probably the final) adventure with Guybrush Threepwood and friends. As a lifelong Monkey Island fan, having a (likely) last hurrah was very kind of Telltale. My favorite moment in that game was the game's climax. Yep, I thought Telltale had some genuine motion even before TWD.

  • Came here because of Monkey Island, then discovered Sam & Max... stayed right through until Walking Dead season 2, but with less and less time for gaming I kinda drifted away.
Heard about this on FB, now feeling pretty gutted that it's all coming to an end.
Always kinda hoped they would get the licence for a Doctor Who game, felt that they could've done a great job with that, but sadly that dream is now over.

I had followed TellTale ever since IGN posted their big review for The Walking Dead: Season One in its entirety. What really brought me in however (weirdly enough) was Minecraft: Story Mode. From the release of the teaser trailer, I was excited by the idea of a kids game involving the kind of tough choices one would see in a Walking Dead game, and Minecraft (for all its memes) seemed like the perfect format for this kind of storytelling. I became involved in the TellTale fanbase shortly after.

The walking dead season 1 brought me to telltale, though ANF was the first game I purchased. I enjoyed the series so much that I went back and purchased season 1 and 2 for 2 reasons... to support telltale and to have my own choices carried over. I also gave game of thrones and borderlands (great game) a go as well.

My favourite moment was definitely in the old days when season 1 episode 5 was released, people were soooo depressed over Lee, and the hype for season 2 was real.

  • (1) Brought me here: Sam & Max
    (2) Favorite Moment: "I'm more piratey than you".

  • My boyfriend at the time told me I should play it and so I did. I fell in love. I've played all their games ever since and always look forward to new ones. I was a forum member for a while and have loved being a part of this community, even if I haven't posted much in recent years. It's sad and disappointing. I was really looking forward to the rest of TWD season 4, TWAU season 2, and even the new Stranger Things game.

  • The Walking Dead season 1 was what introduced me to Telltale. Such good times.
