Ron's ideas

Hi, everybody!

Recently, I was chatting with a friend about how awesome is TOMI so far, and we started thinking about which were Ron Gilbert's ideas into the game.
Two things we thought are these:

- The love "quartet" seems to be very likely a Gilbert Incorported idea.

- And Elaine seems like a cross between the first and the second MI.

What do you think?

I heard Ron had an idea for a pizza place where you make your own pie...oh wait

I had a chance to speak with him at PAX, but I didn't get to speak with him very much about which parts of ToMI were his (at the time, only episodes 1 and 2 were out). I think I heard something from a Telltale Member there that Ron's input was only so much that the Monkey Island world and details were correct.

    I don't remember exactly, though...

I think, he left a lot to Grossman..though.

I think Ron Gilbert, Bill Tiller, Dave Grossman, Tim Schafer, Mike Stemmle, and Steve Purcell..... should all get together at the same time and make the ultimate Monkey Island game.

I think the amount of cred Ron is getting is slowly transcending that of the sun.

    I think probably Telltale said:

"This is what we are going to make in Tales of Monkey Island. This are the characters and this is the rough story. Are you OK with that, Ron?"

    Ron:
"OK. Now let me eat that pizza and go back to finish Death Spank. Let me know when you want me to continue the story from Monkey 2. Mmm, this pizza tastes real good! I love pepperonni!"

Envy is not good... Just consider that Ron gave him no more information to him than we all know and you'll feel much better about yourself. :p

doesn't seem right. I'm quite sure he meant a book about Coffee Tables... that turns into a coffee table!

Getting those guys back togther on a GAME WOULD BE FREAKING INSANE!. Those guys are like gods!.

But even just for 1 Monkey Island episode, it would blow anything away.

I think Ron Gilbert contributed all the good ideas. After all, it is He who sent His son, Guybrush Threepwood, to NEVER EVER seriously die for our sins.

    ...

You see, He's a bit of an ass like that.

Ron's involvement was as a consultant, which probably means they came to him with fully formed ideas, and Ron just approved, disapproved, or helped them tweak what they had.

That's right. El Gilberto (as Mr. Ron Gilbert will heretofore be called) didn't reveal to me the Secret of Monkey Island, but said it will be probably be revealed via another Monkey Island game if he gets the chance to make one (but if he doesn't, he'll reveal it anyway. or he'll die in a freak accident and we'll all be screwed).

Edit: My convo with El Gilberto @ PAX went a lil' sumthin' like this (note: these are strictly from memory):
Me: Hey Ron! Well, I think I should talk about the secret. You know which one I'm talking about

    Ron: *concerned frown*

Me: Now, I'm not going to ask you to reveal the secret...

    Ron: ...because I won't...

Me: Right. Well, are you going to reveal the secret in your lifetime, or will you take it to your grave?

Ron: *turns head and body to think, then goes back into talking position* Unless I make a third Monkey Island game, I'll probably reveal the secret eventually.

I hope the ultimate Monkey Island game is far off in time yet. I'd be happy to see those guys make many of the games preceding the ultimate game, though. :p

I think Ron Gilbert gets WAY too much credit. Tales would have been awesome with or without him.

    You forgot Michael Land. :p

Apart from that, I agree with you 100% :)

I refuse to accept the "secret" given in Monkey Island 4. I was like, "Oh, that's it? A giant robot monkey?" Which made absolutely no sense seeing how you climbed down it's mouth into a catacombs in MI1 and then all of a sudden in four it has a whole body that wasn't there the first game. Between that and what happen to Herman Toothrot ruined the story. I still believe that Ron knows and he hasn't told us yet(if ever).

Funny you should say that. When EMI ("Monkey 4") came out, I was single. Nine years later and I finally get another taste of Monkey Island and I am married with 2 kids. :)

We (the wife and I) still find time to play Tales when the chapters come out but we have to work around the kids' schedule. :o

Our oldest daughter (just about to turn 5) teases us ("Ugh.... Monkey Island again?" or "You're still playing that game?"), but she thinks it looks neat.

She's too young to understand the concept of an adventure game, in that it isn't like the games she plays on Nick Jr and other kid-oriented websites that are essentially "over" in 5 minutes. :D

It doesn't help that after playing chapter 1 of TOMI, we played TSOMI:SE followed by "2, 3 & 4" all back-to-back then started back up when chapter 2 of TOMI came out. I think she thinks it's all basically one L-O-N-G game. :D
