I'm really, really surprised they just send a download link in an email.

Yes syrup I got mine. Did take awhile though, 2hrs+ but worth it, o yes!
  • edited October 2009
After downloading it for an entire day (despite it's 349 MB size) the download failed at around 1 o'clock in the morning and the download link stopped working. I've started downloading it again this morning and it's a lot faster yet still slow for such a small download.

Amanita metioned that people who hadn't bought the game somehow got their hands on a download link which is why the servers are getting slammed.

Im stuck at the board game. The are some neat tricky puzzles, but this one is just about beating the AI on a board game.
But im just too dumb or the computer too smart.

it took me hours to finally download it but I'm sure every second was worth it

Just downloaded it too, probably gonna beat Brütal Legend first, but after that, I'm starting on it =D

Wait... it's just via a download link?

    No anti piracy...?

    I'll be right back.

Is it really depressing, or actually pretty good?

I eventually quit my download and started again via speed download for the mac and got it in under an hour.

I only found out about this game a few weeks ago, played the demo and instantly pre-ordered. I played it for about and hour yesterday and i must say it's one of the best puzzle based games I've played in years.

I'm totally blown away that a group of indie developers have managed to create something so atmospheric and engrossing. The artwork and attention to detail in the game is beyond anything I've seen in a point and click. The soundtrack is also very good, great to just sit and listen to at times, reminds me of Cinematic Orchestra or Bonobo! Quality!

The puzzles are logical yet very challenging at times and i doubt i'm even a quarter way through, so i'm sure they'll get even more difficult, which i'm loving!

It took me a while to beat this too, very frustrating but i wasn't put off, took me about 15 minutes. Such a simple puzzle but i was glued!

I agree that they've made a bit of school boy error by sending out direct download links that can be forwarded on and allow people who haven't paid for the game to get hold of it, with it being DRM free. I guess this may help it get some more exposure and into the hands of people who may not normally buy these type of games, although for the price i think people should invest in the developers as this game is top class. I really hope they continue to evolve and create new original titles, i can see them going far based on what they have released to this point.

I urge anyone who hasn't got this already to purchase a copy, either from the developers themselves or via steam. They really do deserve your money, you will not be disappointed!

Finished. Fantastic game. Really atmospheric and some great puzzle design.:)
The abrupt ending was a bit of a let down though.

I bought it on Steam (no download problems there) and I have been enjoying it immensely. Beautiful, classic point-and-click adventure game set in a surreal world full of cute little robots.

Ignatius, I found the trick with the board game is to
try to build on more than one row at a time. Get 3 in a row, then get 3 in a row in another direction. Seems to confuse the AI eventually and he blocks the less dangerous spot, giving you a chance to make four in a row with both ends open.

Thanks Arodin but i beat that part yesterday, out of luck actually, i wasnt following any strategy but suddenly i realized i got two chances of winning and the AI could just block one.
I finished the whole game just some hours ago. Really nice game, its mostly about jigsaw puzzles but they are hard and challenging.
Didnt like the end either, but its a great game.

I've only played a bit of it(I'm just BARELY out of what the demo covers), but I found that the grimy, grey and brown world constantly finds ways to endear itself to me. I'm not a person that's against a dreary atmosphere by any means, but that's just not what I found here. It has a cartoonish charm to it all, these automatons have a life and an energy that has a sort of whimsy about them that defies their beautifully run-down and abandoned world.

Great atmosphere, i like the ambient music.

Finished!! Man i'm so gutted it's over, it's such an amazing game. I hope they continue to make more. It had me stumped quite a bit in certain parts, i'm really glad i didn't succumb to the hint system, feels good to figure it all out on your own :)

I can safely say that this is the first game in a long time to really challenge me and bring back that frustration i used to get playing the old MI games!!

    Roll on Machinarium 2!!?!

Great game. Ending was a bit disappointing, but the rest was perfect. Now, to decide which screen to use as my new wallpaper...
  • edited October 2009
its great imo, but its PURE flash, which has its issues.

its almost like back in the day when all games ran on quicktime and you needed to use a specific player or... f off!

but this game seems retro and new at the same time.. its great... ending was.. disappointing though I agree.

Just played the demo, pretty cool, probably getting it after 25th ;)
  • edited October 2009
Hahah, I was stuck, and tried the little minigame/hintsystem, but after I completed it, I regret and just slapped my hand on the screen and closed it =D I hate when I use hint in these type of games

This game is awesome beyond words! As with everything else Amanita Design has made, I loved the artwork the instant I saw it. The puzzles are old school hard, and I love the occasional daydream-bubble where the robot relives little memories of him doing stuff with his friend.
I only got stuck around the middle when I couldn't figure out how to fix the didgeridoo and I didn't know it was part of the chain of events to getting the wrench-bot to work for you.
I also loved the little shout out to Samorost!
  • edited October 2009
I enjoyed it. As for the ending, it was sort of what I was expecting anyway.
  • edited October 2009
It's a pretty tough puzzler, tougher than the two Samorost titles.

This game is superb, so glad I read this thread. blown away by the artwork, best adventure since curse imo. I hope it gets the sales it deserves

Hah, i'm through, no help. Boy that was enjoyful. :O)

Wonderful piece of art and it shows so well some of the core mechanics of an point&click-adventure!

And those who don't know the earlier games of Amanita Design should give Samorost 2 a chance. The soundtrack alone blows you away. My favourite song from Tomas Dvorak still is the Samorost Intro.

It's only narrow in the very beginning. Shortly after the part in the demo, the game opens up a lot.

just finished it, surprised at some reviews and posts on here saying the ending was a let down. perfect ending, perfect game (almost). cant wait to see what amanita design come out with next

You've played Samarost & the sequel and their other earlier games, I assume?

Amazing! That's all I can say really.
Beautiful visuals, great music and atmosphere and superb puzzles (tough, but not too tough).
One of the best adventure games ever, period.

With TMI, Machinarium and upcoming Book of Unwritten Tales, The Whispered World and Black Mirror2, it looks like quality adventures (that can compete with the ones from their golden years) are finally coming back!

Slow ey? You buddy can be glad that the Black Cap Brotherhood didn't hear that and beat you up.

Man. Instinctive right click is driving me nuts. :p
  • edited October 2009
I went through the same. :O)

The game has it's minor issues but it's so strong in quite some aspects that in my opinion by what has been released so far it's the most impressive adventure of 2009.

It was a great game. to bad it was a bit short. The puzzles reminded me of Professor layton, which is a good thing. I love a challenge
  • edited October 2009
I'm not very far into this (just got it last night), but I love it so far. It's not slapstick by any means, but the little robot's antics have made me laugh out loud several times already, and the puzzles are just great.

Can anyone tell me how well it plays with Linux? My brother is a dedicated Ubuntu user.

It's programmed in Flash. It's not a demanding game, you could probably run it on a netbook.

Thanks, I figured the demo was, but I didn't know if the whole game was. (I don't understand the computery talk with the fortrain and vitamin C++ invented by Linus Pauling and stuff.)

I got out into the city last night, with the robot band and board game and stuff. I love the art and the atmosphere. I do wish I could click on hotspots that are outside the reach of my little robot guy, but respect that they wanted you to actually pay attention to where he was on screen instead of turning it entirely into a hidden object game.
