HALLOWEEN CONTEST - A Point and Click Adventure (now with Behind-the-Scenes)

edited April 2011 in General Chat
halloweencontest_title.jpg

Okay people!
Here we are and this is our Halloween Contest Entry!
A point and click adventure!!
Omg.

We, the funny people who did fun stuff like »I’m more piratey than you« and the »I wonder what happens«-series, made a point-and-click-adventure.
It’s our official Contest-Entry, made with the VISIONAIRE-Engine.

Unfortunately, due the short production-time of only two weeks, the current version is still BETA. It has some Bugs here and there, and beautiful stuff like voice-recordings are not in it (yet). And it’s only for windows (yet).

BUT IT’S STILL AWESOME!!

Download the game here! (about 83 MB)
Extract the files!
Start the EXE!
Have fun!

How to play:
- Leftclick: Walk to.
- Double-Leftclick: Take/Use stuff.
- Rightclick: Look at.
- Grab your inventory-items and use them with other objects with leftclick.
- Skip dialogue with a simple left- or right-click.

If you have bugreports and feedback please write them down here or send us an E-Mail.

SO! What are waiting for?
Have fun with us, trying to make the BEST costume of time and space!

Suro & Andrei & Mihai & Martin & Majus

Awesome stuff, loved the introduction! Will hopefully be able to actually start adventuring tomorrow ^.^

For some reason Safari for Mac refuses to download the RAR file correctly (this might be because the server is not serving the MIME type correctly; or just a glitch in my Safari), so if that happens, simply right click -> download linked file as.

Your app runs perfectly on CrossOver (WINE) for Mac by the way, thought I'd mention that :)

I don't have anything that can extract the Rnr. Could you also host the exe version, or is that impossible?

IZARC is a nice freeware app that will do RARs.

    Looking forward to playing!

Good stuff. A bit weird, but in a good way, and pretty funny. Wouldn't mind seeing more like this.
    Some bugs:
    • Dialog lines often can't be skipped. I get the feeling this has something to do with cutscenes and normal comments and dialog work fine.
    • The gloves have the wrong look-at comment.
    • When you have to redo the description for the psychiatrist, he leaves out the first question.
  • edited November 2009
This game is so awesome! :D I really enjoyed it, especially the original artistic way of puzzling. ;)
Still a few bugs, yes, but hey, for a game that's been programmed in just 2 weeks, this is totally amazing!

    You guys are the greatest!

Thanks for all the great comments guys! We're happy that you like it! :D

I'm still hoping that they will have at least one prize for writing, so I stand half a shot. There is no way in hell I could beat this.

Can someone (in a spoiler) tell me what I should ask to
convince the psychiatrists they don't exist?
I'm giving up on this one, I'm afraid.

Pretty good game, I must say!

You need to talk with them. If you want the full sollution, I've written it below
Click on the chair so you can begin the conversation. Talk to Gustav first, then to Kauff, and then to Gustav again. Try all possible dialogues, in the order I gave you, because I really don't remember the actual lines :p Sorry

Any chance of a complete walkthrough? I cannot seem to do anything for anyone except SWP's part.

Do I need to download visionaire to play the game, or was a copy included in the download?

    thats awesome!!!!!
  • edited November 2009
The only things you are required to have are:

-something to unzip it (I got WinRar on Windows and UnRarx on mac)
    -windows in some form

Everything else (including the actual visionaire player) is there.
  • edited November 2009
So which file should I be trying to open after I unzip it?

    That was severely awesome!

Good concept, very cool visual style, and great music. An interesting change of pace humour-wise for you guys, but I think you handled it well. I especially liked some of the lines in Majus's room (like the purple stone), and pretty much the whole premise of Suro's room (
the way it ends up completely destroyed by the time his costume is ready, haha
). Oh and the ending made me laugh. :D

One bug - when I looked at the rubber gloves in my inventory, I got a description for the safe code.

I liked the reference to The Dig... and the "existence" puzzle reminded me of The Flight of the Amazon Queen, where you make the gorilla disappear by telling him that gorillas come from Africa (therefore a gorilla in the Amazon jungle couldn't exist). Actually part of the music in Majus's room reminded me of that game too. :)

Can't believe that only took 2 weeks to do - it must have been 2 weeks of non-stop work. Very very well done... but of course you already knew that! :p

    Most definitely an EXE though.

Sadly, no. I'm just useless :o You'd think that after 20 years of using computers I'd have learned something. At least I can type really quickly.

Yes, yes, I have done that already. But there is a PROBLEM: I can't speak with Gustav again. I thought when I couldn't go further, it was a 'dialogue puzzle'. That I had to ask the questions in a specific order so I can finally state something as 'You guys don't really exist', but all they say is 'That doesn't make sense' and 'Oh, let him continue'
Also, is there a save or autosave function, cause I've closed the game and don't want to start it all over again.

    Did you unzip/unrar it properly?
Or do you try to start it from the archive?

If you unzip it properly you either should have a folder with the name of the archive, or a bunch of files lying right around.

My computer seemed to freeze when I ran the exe, so I hit ctrl-alt-del to bring up the Task Manager, which seemed to give the game a kick in the pants and it started up. I had to do this every time I ran the file - it wouldn't start unless I hit ctrl-alt-del and then waited a few seconds.

Given by the answer you got, you most likely talked about the wrong stuff.
What you are looking for is a way to proove that Kauff doesn't exist. In the dialouge one of those people even mentions that he can proove it.
You have to ask this certain figure about that.
  • edited November 2009
Da*^it, it's just not showing up. Not even in Task Manager. It's like I tell it to run and it's not really there.

Edit: God f&^%ing He&^ in tap pants! I somehow glared the program into submission, and it's running! But changes my display resolution somehow ... Maybe it just doesn't like tablet pc's? (Might want to figure out how it changes my display settings every time I switch over to the program.)

This is awesome, guys! Great job, well done. ;)

    My favourite parts:
    Majus: "I wonder what happens..."
"I'll go like Guybrush Threepwood... like always!"
Mihai: I just loved this whole part. The glow in the dark puzzle was one of those classic 'Hey, I solved something without random trial-and-error clicking!' moments. The safe code and explosion both made me laugh, brilliant!
Suro: I enjoyed clicking random stuff in your room just for the funny comments. On top of that, the whole pool puzzle is great and hilarious.
Andrei: I dig psychology. I really dig it. The mind-bending psychology/philosophy puzzle was really great and the ending really made me laugh. Great job on this!

    A few bugs:
*Kauff's animation is kind of bugged.
    *excvlusive instead of exclusive.
    *votet instead of voted.
    *loose instead of lose.
Other than that, a few minor spelling mistakes I forgot. :P

For the people having trouble running the executable: closing other programs that used Java did the trick for me.

Great job guys, you'll definitely get my vote!

Step-by-step walkthrough from memory (spoilers will reveal one line at a time), apologies if there are any omissions or mistakes.

    SWP (THE CRAZY GUY)

    1.
Pick up all the lagomorph stuff conveniently hanging in the air (gosh this place is weird, huh?)
    2.
Talk to Kauff about everything... the answers are:
    2.1.
    Ears
    2.2.
    Head
    2.3.
    Tail
    3.
Show all the objects to Gustav
    4.
Looks like we need more stuff... pick up that box on Kauff's desk...
    5.
Oh, Kauff doesn't like that. Let's talk to him instead.
    6.
Talk to Kauff about (Life, the Universe and) everything
    7.
Talk to Gustav about everything -- note that there is a "down" arrow on the left to scroll for more dialogue options
    8.
Talk to Kauff about all the new dialogue options
    9.
Talk to Gustav about all the new dialogue options
    10.
Talk to Kauff about whether he really exists
    11.
Talk to Gustav about whether he really exists
    12.
By now the therapists should be convinced that they don't exist and we are free to pick up that box!
... and it turns out nothing else really existed either. What I want to know is- how did SWP use all that non-existent stuff to make a costume??

    MIHAI (THE INVENTOR)

    The aim is to
    get the costume-inventing machine working.

    1.
Pick up the blueprint on the wall
    2.
Look at the cart of chemicals. Pick up the rubber gloves
    3.
Look at the pencils on the edge of the bench... hmm they glow in the dark.
    4.
There is a light switch by the door...
    5.
Turn off the light switch. You will get the safe code in your inventory.
    6.
Use the safe code on the safe to open it
    7.
Pick up the crystals (you'll get 2)
    8.
Look at the blueprint... hmm it looks like the crystals won't fit in the machine.
    9.
You'll need to cut the crystals down to size...
    10.
Use the crystals on the circular saw
    11.
Use the cut crystals on the opening (in the machine)
    12.
KABOOM! Exploserous awesomeness!... ok let's try that again.
    13.
It didn't work because the green crystal was incompatible with the "redray"(TM) laser.
    14.
Gosh, how can we change the colour of the crystal?
    15.
Use the crystal with the red chemical on the floor.
    16.
Use the red crystal in the machine

    Yay!

    SURO (MR MONEYBAGS)

    The aim is to
order the costume online, and get it via airmail (through the window).

    1.
Pick up the musket (this falls off the wall after Mihai picks up the blueprint in the other room)
    2.
Go to the bar at the back of the room, pick up glass
    3.
    Use glass on pool (ew)
    4.
Use glass full of water on fireplace at the back of the room
    5.
Now you can get upstairs! (I wish my room was designed like this)
    6.
Check out that huge pile of money... oh look a remote control for the Thronemaster5000 (or whatever it is called).
    7.
Use the computer to order a costume online
    8.
Oops... the helicopter didn't leave your package. Guess we need to open the window...
    9.
Go downstairs and shoot the window with the musket.
    10.
Go back upstairs and order that costume again...
    11.
Rats. But what is that flyer on the ground?
    12.
Pick up the flyer, go back upstairs, and use the flyer on the computer.
    13.
    Whoa, nice sponge-like mattress.
    14.
Let's use the computer to order that costume again!
    15.
DAMMIT!! Ok... how can we block the fireplace?
    16.
    Nice remote-control throne.
    17.
Use the remote control to move the throne in front of the fireplace.
    18.
Back upstairs to the computer... surely it has to work this time...
Yay! Laugh at how much the room has been destroyed in the process of procuring a costume.

    MAJUS (THE ARTIST)

    The aim is to
paint something nice on the canvas as inspiration for a costume.

    Another hint about the aim...
you want to paint a particular piratey character from a Telltale game.

Yet another hint about the aim...
you want to paint Guybrush Threepwood.

    1.
Look at the desk pad (it's, er, on the desk)... ooh nice key.
    2.
Go into the storeroom and check out the curtains. Well, it's too dark to see them, but you can pull them closed.
    3.
Go around and look at the curtains through the window. Majus will note the pattern down as an idea.
    4.
Look at the cactus pot... hmm, reminds Majus of boots. He'll note that down.
    5.
Look at the cactus... hmm, reminds Majus of a wig. Now we have an idea for a green wig too.
    6.
Look at the weird Mihai-shaped impression on the wall. Looks like he's wearing a coat... that's an idea.
    7.
We probably have enough ideas now... Let's get some piratey paint action going on!
    8.
Look at the canvas (I wonder what happens?... haha)
    9.
Use the curtain pattern with the COAT idea in the inventory
    10.
Use the BLUE/RED COAT with the canvas
    11.
Use the BROWN BOOTS with the canvas
    12.
Look familiar yet? Needs some hair though...
    13.
Use the YELLOW PAINT with the WIG idea in the inventory
    14.
Use the YELLOW WIG with the canvas
    Ooh, what an inspiration! Yay!

Now Cinderel- er, the dudes can go to the party.
