I think there's a difference between inane minutia and the title of the entire franchise, but that's just me. Personally, I'm pretty sure any Star Wars fan wouldn't like the series being called the "Phantom Menace Films", and you don't see anyone saying they want the next installment of the LeChuck's Revenge series" or the "Curse of Monkey Island series".
You may get flamed, but you'll also be defended by Rather Dashing, which pretty much balances it out!
It's true! I'm loud and obnoxious enough to make up for the absence of about 50 people! :D

especially considering curse was a different artstyle from SOMI and MI2:LR. by their reasoning(as you said) anything after it should be the curse series.

Unfortunately, I've seen this. Regarding Curse, that is, not LR.

its most likely because they didnt know about the originals

And just as unfortunate, there are people who don't know that MM exists either (even though the game is built right inside DOTT with a big sticker on the front box cover advertising it!).

Oh no no no no no, Tentacles are such a fun part, and very fun characters, im sure purple tentacle will have his revenge! :D

    But (DoTT spoilers)
how can Purple get his revenge when they changed the past so he never went rogue to begin with? :<

    Also,
I'd love a Maniac Mansion Series: Maniac Mansion 3 - Day of the Tentacle 2 - The Revenge of the Black Tentacle.
    I want this game.

    This thread is comical.

I get what the OP is saying, DOTT seems to have fully eclipsed Maniac Mansion in the eyes of many fans. In many ways Maniac Mansion was a better game, it had multiple endings, a lot of challenges and different ways to solve puzzles depending on which characters you chose to use, and I think it's the only LucasArts game in which you can actually die (maybe Zak McKracken too, I forget).

For Telltale, if they were to pick up the series, I think following Maniac Mansion might work better for them than Day of the Tentacle. They could still have Bernard, Hoagie and Laverne, but they could also bring back any of the other six characters from the original game and develop those characters however they want, since there really isn't a lot of character development in the original MM.

both indiana jones games as well.

LucasArts/film games you can actually die in that I remember:

Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
    The Secret of Monkey Island
    Zak McKracken
    Maniac Mansion
    The Dig

Correct me if I'm wrong, or add others. I didn't count MI2:LR, as it really just starts the sequence over without having to reload or anything.

I can't remember dying in The Dig, but its been a while.

And I seem to remember dying in The Dig, but it's been a while with me too. :D

I don't think you can die in The Dig. I never have anyway. It's obviously not something that happens easily unless you make it happen, if you can indeed die.

I think there's an alternate bad ending, isn't there? I've never played it, but I've read about it.

There is an alternative bad ending but even so Boston Low can't die in the game.

Woah wait, you can die in the Dig?
    Where?

Also in Full Throttle you can die but everytime you do, you go back to what you were doing.

I always talk about the "Jedi Knight" series... even when the first game of the series actually was "Dark Forces":
    First, Dark Forces
Then, Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II
Then, Jedi Knight II (not "Dark Forces III"): Jedi Outcast

Other example (I'm not 100% sure of this, but I think it's correct):
    First, Bubble Bobble
Then, Rainbow Islands: Bubble Bobble 2
Then, Parasol Stars: Rainbow Islands 2 (not Bubble Bobble 3)

So, I don't have any problem if we have the following:
    First, Maniac Mansion
Then, Maniac Mansion: Day of the Tentacle
Then, Some Cool Game by Telltale: Day of the Tentacle 2 (and not Maniac Mansion 3)

Don't forget First Blood, First Blood Part II: Rambo, Rambo III, and Rambo!

The Angry Video Game Nerd's chronically confused game/movies series video he made would be a great watch for everyone at this point. Also, his chronically confused Zelda series video. The Zombie movie series is of particular interest in the former.

If I hadn't read through the manual, I could have easily got through DOTT without knowing it was a sequel. Although there are quite a few references in the game, such as "back to the mansion," and when Bernard was there "five years ago," and whatnot.

DOTT was the first LucasArts adventure game I really got into (the only LucasArts games I'd played before were the Indiana Jones platform games on the Amiga) so I wasn't all that familiar with the company and what they had already produced. I even remember thinking at first that "Maniac Mansion" was another company that had worked with LucasArts to create the game.

lol Actually that was the first ending to The Dig I got when I played it! Yeah, I'm yet to find an actual way you can die in the game. That said,
it's pretty easy to kill Maggie and Brink, huh?
