All things Henson (From Muppets to Gelflings and more)

edited May 2010 in General Chat
The muppets have been releasing short clips on YouTube for a while now, but they have just released the ultimate.

Namely this EPIC WIN (over 2 million views in a couple of days)

More clips at their channel:

I'd love to see Henson & Telltale hook up in some capacity one day (I've mentioned before Dark Crystal episodes).

I saw that yesterday. Awesome stuff

I saw this yesterday too. It made me smile, because it made me realize that good Muppet content can actually still be made!

Yep it's awesome. Love the last little bit with Kermit at the end :)

It's over 3 million views now! That's crazy.

That's because the muppets rock the universe!! :D

Yeah, I posted this around to all my friends the minute I saw this yesterday!!

It is pretty darn awesome!! Really brings back that classic muppets vibe.
They are doing what they do best, entertaining us through humour and song.

We are seriously due for a new big muppet adventure in movies or as a new tv show.
The charm is still there, that is for sure!!

I HAVE AND ALWAYS WILL LOVE DR. TEETH AND THE ELECTRIC MAYHEM!!
Still performed by the orginal voice actor, which makes it extra special to me.

    Final word: Puppets Rule!!

Okay one more line, the amount of viewers this video is getting makes me hope for a better tomorrow!!

    Okay maybe another one,
The muppets ending a song together in harmony always sends a chill down my spine, in a good way.
The kind of voices muppets produce mix together to create something special and it has always been something typical about the muppets for me ever since they did it in the rainbow connection reprise.

My thoughts exactly, muppets are awesome.

The Muppets can do no wrong.

I mean, really, when have they done wrong? :D

Here's another great Muppet video. :p

    Several times.

Yeah, they've changed owners several times since Henson's death. There have been some pretty poor Muppet related shows / movies overthe years, but they're partnered with Disney now, and they seem to have some focus and innovative ideas on what is the best thing to do with the franchise.

    Here's forthcoming Muppet activity that was announced at D23 two months back;

UPDATE: More Muppet YouTube videos to hit the web in 2010. Including Muppet versions of Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody," Kansas' "Dust in the Wind," "Carve O'Matic," "Carol of the Bells," "Stand By Me," and more!

I heard that Jason Segel (Forgetting Sarah Marshall) is writing(?)/directing(?) a new muppet movie. And if you saw what he did with the Dracula puppets in that movie, you know it's in safe hands :)

Fixed. Watch where you put commas, they can change the entire meaning of a sentence (as an episode of Jonathan Creek proved).

Never saw any of the newer Muppet movies, but I did catch Muppet Treasure Island (which everyone else I know seems to think is rubbish) and thoroughly enjoyed it. Did anyone else here like that film?
  • edited November 2009
Only saw Treasure Island without really paying much attention to it, but I did crack up when Long John Silver (Tim Curry) introduced his pet.... and it isn't a parrot :)
  • edited November 2009
Ah, Tim Curry. One of the best things he's ever done, outside of Gabriel Knight.

I don't know if anyone cares, but they're in pre production for a Dark Crystal sequel.

People don't like Muppet Treasure Island? Really? It's my second favorite Muppet film, after of course the original Muppet Movie. Third favorite is probably Muppet Christmas Carol.

Considering the sad state of Muppet productions lately, I approach this information with careful trepidation. I want it to be good, but I'm worried it will end up as bad as all other Henson productions post-Henson.

Well, everyone I know. They're all fools, of course.

My favs are Muppet Treasure Island, then Muppet Christmas Carol (one of the pitifully few Christmas films I actually enjoy) and then the other early Muppet movies. In that order.

Eh. It was a Passable Muppet Caper at best, and it was really more of an Escapade than a Caper, if I'm to be perfectly honest. I love a good Caper, and I wouldn't even say no to a Shenanigan now and then, but this one left me cold.

I love it, much more than I thought I would.

Did anybody else notice that the computer at the end was running two different operating systems?

In a joint announcement by Omnilab Media's Christopher Mapp and The Jim Henson Company's Lisa Henson, Australian based Omnilab Media is teaming up with The Jim Henson Company to bring the much anticipated fantasy sequel, "Power of the Dark Crystal" to the big screen in stereoscopic 3D. The highly anticipated film will be among the most ambitious projects to ever be produced in Australia.

Power of the Dark Crystal will be produced by the Australia based production arm of Omnilab Media, Ambience Entertainment. The Jim Henson Company's executive producers are Brian Henson, Lisa Henson and Jason Lust. Omnilab Media's executive producers are Christopher Mapp, Matthew Street and David Whealy. Cinemarket Films' Peter D. Graves ("Terminator Salvation") rounds out the executive producer team.

Peter Spierig and Michael Spierig, writers and directors of "Undead" and most recently, "Daybreakers," have come aboard to direct the screenplay written by Australian Craig Pearce ("Moulin Rouge," "Strictly Ballroom," "Romeo + Juliet") based on an original script by Annette Duffy and David Odell. The legendary fantasy artist Brian Froud will reprise his role as conceptual designer of the film, which will use a stunning mix of live action and traditional puppetry combined with visual and special effects produced entirely in Australia. Omnilab-affiliated Iloura ("Where the Wild Things Are," "The Pacific," "Don't Be Afraid of the Dark") has already begun work on the film's complex CGI elements. With this team in place, next steps will be to secure worldwide distribution.

Yay. And more at the link.

This was great. I love muppets!

My favorite muppet movie will always be the Muppet Christmas Carol, its a tradition in my family to watch it every Christmas. I think I've got it nearly memorized by now.

As far as I'm concerned, the muppets are dead to me.
Ever since they were bought up by Disney I've seen 'm do nothing more then produce rubbish that just leaves a queezy metallic commercial aftertaste.

Since then Kermit has left Sesame Street, Frank Oz has quit (and Eric Jacobson is NOT a good substitute) and the muppets keep popping up in commercials, bad reality shows and lousy spoofs.
Not to mention that the new movies actually focus more on the actors than on the muppets.
After Muppets from Space it pretty much went down hill.
I regret having to say this, because I love them...

You don't like the viral youtube shorts? Really?

I think the Muppet brand is in better hands/shape than it's been for years. IMO the Muppets Tonight series was the previous last highpoint for the franchise. I thought Muppets From Space was pretty awful.

Now I may be 13, but I own a bunch of Muppet DVDs, a Whatnot, and a bunch of, I suppose you could say, "stuffed animals."

It has, much more recently, won two Webby awards, so that is noteworthy.
