"So Blonde". not only similar, but sometimes a total rip off.
Also, i tend to see King's quest 6 as a sort of MI rival. It has traveling between islands, dancing skeletons... well, that's pretty much it. Just play it :P

KQ6 is my favorite game ever, but to someone just coming off of Monkey Island unfamiliar with Sierra, it might be a little daunting.
It's far more forgiving that most of the earlier King's Quest games, but there are still a few dead ends (mainly if you enter the labyrinth without everything you need). You'll want a lot of save slots.
"El Tesoro de Isla Alcachofa" (The Treasure of Artichoke Island), from the same guys who did "Fred & Jeff: A movie adventure" and "The abbey".
Quite old, nearly impossible to play on newer computers, Spanish only and difficult to find, though
If you haven't played Sam and Max, try Sam and Max series 1 from the telltale store. It's half price until the end of the year (using treasure hunt codes) and if you go to www.samandmax2010.com you get a free episode from season 2. There's also episode 104, that's also free.
Don't try the old sam and max, that's dated and the puzzles are too obscure. Telltales one is fantastic and is as good as monkey island, and I find it funnier.

Well, that's your opinion. You could easily say the same about several older LucasArts titles, or the Simon the Sorcerer series - hell, even the earlier Monkey Island games had some pretty warped logic to a couple of puzzles (monkey wrench, anyone?).
It's all about getting into the right mindset. If you go into a Sam & Max game and expect everything top be perfectly logical, then you'll be stuck faster then you can say 'Bosco's Inconvenience'. If you realise that things are going to be silly and not altogether serious, you'll do much better. Like using ketchup on a birthday cake to get rid of someone with an allergy to tomatoes. Not something you'd do in real life, but in a video game? Sure, why not?

Hit the road is how sam and max should be, and the obscure puzzles fit in with the Sam&Max universe. Plus it was written by Steve Purcell, so it's as close to Sam&Max, as your going to get.
(Yes, I do realize what I just said. I know that He's been with the scripting stages of every episode so far.)

I'm not going to comment except to say that you just about opened a can of worms there. (not from me but in general)
I have another question about sam and max, which one is the first chapter is it Sam & Max 102: Situation: Comedy ???? its not clear which one is the first chapter of the season
I haven't tried this myself yet, but there's a freeware game called "Lost on Parrot Island". It looks very Monkey Island-ish. I think you need an Amiga emulator to play it though. If you do have an Amiga emulator, go for it!
And yes, the first 2 Simon the Sorcerer games are similar. Imagine what Monkey Island would have been like if Guybrush was a wizard instead of a pirate. (okay, so they're not quite like that, but kind of!) Basically, if you like Monkey Island then you'll probably like Simon!

101 Culture shock is the first Episode in the series.

102 means first series, second episode. 101 means first series, first episode.
Actually Flight Of the Amazon Queen (which is free from scummvm.org) is quite similar to monkey island.
same humor, great puzzles, beautiful graphics, and character you actually care of.
Simon the Sorcerer 1 and 2. It's like Monkey Island in a fantasy world setting. Simon's a bit more of a jackass but its a great and funny game.
Agree with this wholeheartedly! Simon the Sorcerer 2 is fantastic (I haven't played the others in the series). Simon is like Guybrush with a pointy hat, a mean streak and a snide attitude. Extra points because he's voiced by Chris Barrie (Rimmer from Red Dwarf).

This. Also the first couple of Discworld games.

Similar in what aspect?

Grabbed from the Adventure Game Studios website... A Cure for the Common Cold, A Tale of Betrayal, Adventures in the Galaxy of Fantabulous Wonderment, Adventures of Fatman, Al Gurbish in... Nick It & Run!!!, Annie Android: Automated Affection, the Barn Runner series, Beauties and Beasts, Ben There, Dan That!, Breakdown, Charlie Foxtrot and the Galaxy of Tomorrow and more.
That should get you started.

You will probably need to download ScummVM for those to work (if you haven't already)

Flight of the Amazon Queen is a great game - I played it loads of times when I was a kid. If all you're investing is time, go for it!
The ending is incredibly similar to

Not to mention the worst. Still good though.
