If you had a Time Machine

edited December 2009 in General Chat
If you had a time machine, and for all logic and questions it follows back to the future logic of time.

What would you do?

I would

*Visit the pre-historic times.
* Buy Hard Copies of all the original Lucas Arts adventures.
*Have my self win the lottery.
* Live in the 80's for the things I missed.

What would you all do?

I would go to the premieres of the Star Wars original trilogy, and I would giggle to myself when the whole theatre gasps in amazement with Darth Vader's revelation in Empire Strikes Back
I would cheat in my exams. Well, I would not actually "cheat". I would see the exams, then go back to the past, and study only the items I know there would be in the exams (but without having the actual answers hidden somewhere during the exam)

That would actually be a good one.

I would go back to last Christmas and make me NOT fall down those hard wooden stairs my family has. That hurt. And it was all caused by my cousin that wouldn't help me carry this big present.

Id open a portal to the last humans and turn the time machine into a paradox machime so the future humans can kill there ansestors and not cancel themselfs out

    Awesome question! :D

    I would...
    • Sail with Charles Darwin around the Galapagos islands
    • Watch the first moon landing on TV
    • Meet my parents as teenagers (well, you did mention Back to the Future!)
    • Attend a 1920s flapper party
    • Go to a Beatles concert
    • Experience London during the Blitz
    • Check out colonial Sydney
    • Marry Sergey Brin :p
And... speak to Oscar Wilde in his final years. He was jailed for being a homosexual, effectively exiled to France and later died a poor man. I'd want him to know how much his works are admired and enjoyed today. I'd tell him that in the future, in many parts of the world, "the love that dare not speak its name" can shout its name as much as it damn well likes. I think he would have liked to know that.

EDIT: Javi-Wan's Star Wars idea is a great one!

I would love to go to medieval times, with some modern device like a DS or something. I would be hailed as a god!

    Exactly.

I'd just want to visit the 19th century, so I would have a good excuse to get dressed up in a waistcoat, with a pocket watch, top hat, cane, and what have you.

I'd definitely want to visit the '60s and '70s because by the time I was born I'd missed out on a lot of awesome bands.

Also I'd want to meet Charles Schulz. :D

Oh yeah, and I'd totally enjoy adventure games in the era they first began. Because I missed out on all that at the time. I didn't really get into adventure games until the late '90s, so I missed out for too long!

And I'd get a job as a 2D frame-by-frame animator at some point in the 20th century. Because it's so difficult finding any studio nowadays where that job even exists!

Oh yeah, and I want to see Jaws when it first came out, and everyone thought it was scary back then. Might not be as good as the Star Wars idea, but it'd be fun!

I've always wanted to take my PC back to the early 90s.

"Wolfenstein 3D is a true step forward in video game technology..."

*ShaggE bursts in with a copy of Crysis* "OHHHH YEEEEAAAHHH!"

    Or the 80's...

"We'll never need more than 64k of RAM..."

    *see above action* "OHHHH YEEEEAAAAHHH!"

Or bring some music to the 60's...

"That 'rock and roll' music is evil!"

*ShaggE calmly walks in with a Cannibal Corpse album* "I say, affirmative."

I'd go to the Future, grab the best technology like nanotechnology, come back and then give it to my younger self. To hell with the timelines, I wanna be a superhero.

So do we need to start calling you "The Master" now? ;)

I'm too materialistic, I'd probably go back and give myself winning lotto numbers or go back and buy what is now an uber-expensive antique and come back and sell it.

The problem is that, as per Chaos theory if you so much as enter the past you create a paradox because events extend much further than your immediate area (see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Butterfly_effect )

Of course as per the OP this followed BTTF science, so chaos theory is moot :D

You missed the joke, it's a reference to an old/new TV series.

But witches have to be female. Wizards were revered! Just look at Merlin and the tale of King arthur. Merlin was portrayed as a good guy!

I just got another idea. Bet a lot of money on that and watch shocked fans give you money.

I'd become the first person to win the lottery jackpot Twice. In a row.

I'd just go forward in time where dimension hopping is possible, so that I would be able to visit alternate universes. I might even try to search for alternate versions of me, and see if one of them is a super cool superhero.

Of course I could try and boink a female version of me.

I'd become a wandering minstrel in ye olde England and regale the peasant folk with such epic fables as those of Wookies in faraway lands, Sir McClane's battle for Nakatomi Tower, and the great metal warriors who could transform into horseless carriages.

I would get Sam&Max season 3 as boxed version for Christmas.

    Well.
    • I'd go forward in time to see if PS3 EVER becomes successful.
    • I'd go even more forward in time to see when the next Star Wars sequel is out.
    • I'd go even further in time than that to see if mankind DOES ever perfect genetic engineering enough to allow actual "furries"
    • I'd go way forward in time to see if Fallout ever happens, and what kind of settlements/mutant will be around Somerset.
  • edited December 2009
    Well.
    • I'd go even further in time than that to see if mankind DOES ever perfect genetic engineering enough to allow actual "furries"

    THIS!

...trouble is I'd go through with it then likely be stupid enough to return to modern times and get disected by CIA scientists who would never believe I was a human-turned-fur with a time-machine...

But still... it might be worth the risk... :D

That's a good question... since it's the same person, minus possible differences in physical hand size I'd immagine the signatures would be identical...

(unless we're talking IRL, in which case, of course, each actor woudl have different hand writing)
