Epic Game Idea... I Just Had to Tell Somebody...

So, I was playing around with an app on my iPod, and that inspired some concept images of an awesome, fresh new game.

The game's art style will look something like this:

This is the one that really inspired me:

You see that humanoid figure at the bottom? That's the protagonist. The main man of the game. He represents Time and Rhythm.

The Story

The game revolves around the beginning of Time and Rhythm, when the five elements (Liquid, Solid, Gas, Plasma, Vacuum) were dimensions. The goal of the game is to maintain control of each.

The Gameplay

I doubt no one has come up with anything like this. The character can move and jump, and has three different attacks: Long Range (A projectile is discharged horizontally), Short Range (A slow but powerful attack), and Hook (A projectile is launched upward into the air, then begins falling gravity bound). There is a catch to the moves: they must be performed to the rhythm of the music, or else they will fail.

There is a single horizontal bar streaming at the top of the screen, and there is a small vertical line at the left end of it. little balls move from the right of the long horizontal bar to the left, where they disappear. The player can only attack when the ball has come to contact with the small vertical bar. The more fast and complex the rhythm of the music, the more so is the frequency of the appearance of the balls.

Enemies will be either composed of liquid, solid, gas, or plasma. Liquid moves freely and can separate into smaller and smaller forms, Solid maintains it's structure and is difficult to destroy, Gas is composed of a bunch of small orbs linked together to form a chain and can float, and Plasma is like Gas, only does not maintain a chain-like formation. Rather, it flies around in dozens of individual orbs; much alike a colony of bees, only more free spirited.

I'll write some more when I get the chance. Hope you like the idea so far. :D

    Here's the rest:

There is no text in the game. It's a thing the player has to figure out by her/himself. It's a mysterious, quiet, dark, strange, bright, loud, welcoming hybrid of beauty, peace, art, rhythm and action. Somewhat like Braid. There is nothing to sit through. It's something that you just pick up and play, only it's for casual AND hardcore gamers alike.

The game will have six different worlds for each of the six elements, and within each world is one massive level. There is a checkpoint every now and then throughout the game that will save automatically once the player comes into contact with it. There will then be a screen where the player can press any button to return to the game.

Each level features caves, platforms (sometimes static or moving or breakable or the player can fall through if he/she stands on it too long), and often “bring key to door”-style puzzles.

At the end of each level is the main boss, which is a large version (or the "Ruler") of each elemental enemy. The rhythm's ramping and slowing down, as well as the pitch and note duration of the music, will be based on the element's traits. The Ruler and Time and Rhythm will both take turns attacking each other.

Time and Rhythm, on his turn, will be able to launch attacks based on the rhythm bar at the top of the screen (as described in my earlier post). The Ruler will display an image at its center; this is the type of attack it is blocking. The player must do any other attack but that one that is being displayed on the Ruler. The attack that the Ruler is blocking will change based on the rhythm of the music. When it is the ruler's attack, it is allowed to exert Long Range, Short Range, and Hook attacks. The player must press the same buttons as the button used to execute the attack that is being launched at him in order to block it.

Each enemy has a similar pattern. They move differently based on what element they are, and launch attacks based on the rhythm of the music. The attacks are blocked just like how the Ruler’s attack is blocked.

The final boss, Vacuum, is a large black mass. You are basically fighting yourself in this level; You, this time, are required to discharge moves based on the rhythm into the Vacuum, and it launches the moves straight back at you, only faster.

There is no life bar in the game; instead when Time and Rhythm gets hurt, he begins losing form, and eventually when is only one hit away from death, is basically a ball with really stubby legs. The screen turns red whenever the player is wounded. When Time and Rhythm dies, he restarts at the checkpoint, as described earlier.

Certain platforms can be grappled by pressing a combination of two buttons; others the player can just jump on.

Everything is based on particle physics: they must maintain and move a certain way by a certain amount. This is a nice and unique idea, I figured. People love a fresh new looking game more than anything else.

The Music is not pre-created, but generated as the player moves on. It starts with a basic rhythm, then becomes more complex and the tempo speeds and slows down, depending o the condition of Time and Rhythm and the environment around him. Some nice electronic music can be created when the player is having an open-field battle.

    The Look

The game's graphics are going to be based on the concept art. Everything revolves around the music; Time and Rhythm, the enemies, even the stage move to the rhythm of the music.
