The Next 100 Years, a forecast of geopolitical changes expected to take place over the next century.

Looking forward to some good conversations with my dad about the material (he got the same book for Christmas).

I also got Sam & Max Season 2 (a present from myself... I buy myself presents sometimes, because I like me so much). :p

Most exciting of all, I got to Skype all my family. Next best thing to actually being there.

    New PC, Yay!

Need to get new motherboard for it, Boo!

A personal groomer devicey-thingy, which is fantastic, since my hair is constantly out to destroy me. Now I can look human at all times instead of just the week after a barber visit.

I've also got an MP3 player coming my way, but it's arrival is delayed due to budgetary limitations.

I may treat myself to some of the Steam Xmas deals as well, if I can tear myself away from V:M:B long enough to do so. :p

    FRom my family:
Candy, pants (Trousers to the brits), and a plushie.

    From me:
Telltale Everything Pack. PS3 (which arrived broken and I had to send it off to repairs... :()

Loved how I'm the only one who chose "I didn't get anything for X-Mas".

I did get what I wanted but my wife chose to ignore my Christmas list this year. But it was a very large list so she was bound to get something I wanted. As it turned out most of the things I got were on my list. Some weren't but were still cool. A great Christmas!

-16GB Sony Walkman (iPods can go fly a kite. I can also now give my 4GB Walkman to my wife)

    -Oblivion for the 360

-2 Calvin & Hobbes books: Homicidal Psycho Jungle Cat and The Lazy Sunday Book (which brings me to requiring only 2 or 3 more to complete my C&H collection)

-new headphones (really needed these since I broke my other ones. I need the wrap around the head ones, can't stand in-ear headphones...no bass and they're just not loud enough. I'm very particular about my sound!)

-Family Guy: Blue Harvest & Something Something Something Dark Side

    -socks

    Win.
...(iPods can go fly a kite...

    MAJOR WIN.
...I can also now give my 4GB Walkman to my wife)

    And an adorable finale.

Are you outside the USA? A different Religion? or just for family reasons dont celebrate?

Actually, some people don't celebrate Christmas because of religious beliefs. For instance, Christmas (aka Sun Mass) really has nothing to do with Christianity, if you know your history. And I'm not even talking about the whole Saint Nicholas thing. But that's a different topic.

Yes. Yes. No, there is not a serious conflict between family members but we all find giving gifts kinda unnecessary since in my family line, dads are the only source of money; so we never give/take gifts in any holidays.

I mean, not spesifically in holidays. We buy things for each other time to time.

you know, in a way I think you guys have more of the right idea about gifting than the rest of us do...

Yes, amusingly, Jesus of Nazereth was born in the spring/summer, but Christmas was moved to december to coincide with the pagan celebration of Solstice.

My wife and I focus all our X-mas budget on our children... So we do not get each other anything...

My kids made me home made ornaments... and they are pretty good little artists so they are pretty darn cool.

Here, most of the people think Christmas is the same with New Year Eve. We don't celebrate it because 25th of December is only a day and nothing else. I'm not a religiously strict person (I'm actually near the opposite) but this holiday doesn't appeal to me, so, meh. Actually, the term "holiday" is something I'm not fond of.

It's kinda funny to know that some people here are buying Christmas trees to imitate your traditions, to feel more "modern". They can't even get the date right, they'll put them in their homes in the eve...
  • edited December 2009
Hey, it's a tradition. But the most important thing about Christmas is what happened. What the true origin of Christmas is.
    Keep X in X-mas.

Oh guys, I just remembered something that was funny that happened to my parents on Christmas. My Dad usually doesn'y buy my Mom anything for Christmas, but this year he bought her a ring, and RIGHT after we wrap it and put it under the tree, my Mom comes thinking Dad yet again bought her nothing, so she bought herself, the EXACT same type of ring:D and then yelled at Dad for not buying her a gift this year:D Man did she feel like an idiot when she wrapped her gift.
Also, a relative who drew my name on who gives who a gift, she gave me a PS3 card with $20 worth of PS3 points(no clue how many points that is) and the funny part is I DON'T even own a PS3:D

Well, I didn't bother to make a Christmas list this year. Things have been quite rough on my family for the past few months (refer to my October blog posting on The Grig Post for more information if you so wish), but I did drop a hint about a certain TV series on DVD.

    From Mom:
    - Lost: The Complete Fifth Season (with Best Buy Bonus Disc)
    - See's Candy

    From Uncle/Aunt:
    - 100 Dollar Gift Card (which I am putting toward the purchase of a DSi)

I would wait just a little bit on that, there is a new DSi coming out called the DSiXL which has bigger screens, every free app from the DSi marketplace(the internet browser, and flipnote studio) installed for you, and some brain age games downloaded. Of course if you hate brain age(like me, my 8 does not look like 32 stupid game:mad:) am all right downloading the free stuff, and could care less about the bigger screens, than you should get a DSi.
  • edited December 2009
I know all about the DSi XL. That is exactly what I am holding out for. I just hope that it releases in North America soon. Japan has had it for more than a month now. I already picked up Chrono Trigger DS, and cannot wait to play it (Chrono Trigger is my favorite game of all time).

Wait, let me get this straight you bought a DS game, but you don't own a DS if any kind.

I didn't ask for anything in particular for Christmas, so I wasn't going to be disappointed. In fact I was very pleased with my gifts! I got:

-An early Christmas present from my grandad - a ticket to the Paul McCartney concert in London (3 days before xmas)
-Lots of winter clothes (already knew about these though because I was the one who picked them out in the first place)
    -A gold necklace
-Two books based on the TV show QI
-Escape from Monkey Island (from my brother - now my MI collection is complete!)
    -A diary/address book gift set
-A hot water bottle (random yes, but needed for the winter nights!)

I think that's everything. :) It was weird having my main present before Christmas Day but what an amazing present it was!! So yeah, very happy with all my stuff.

Nope. Chrono Trigger DS was a spur of the moment impulse buy. I never owned the original SNES version, or even knew about it until 2000 (one year after Lavos consumed the Earth), but after a friend suggested that I play it, I discovered it via emulation. I always felt bad, and rightly so, but by that point in time, you could not find the SNES version in any stores. There was a PS1 release (known confusingly as Final Fantasy Chronicles) that also included Final Fantasy IV, but I did not own a PS1. My younger brother had received one the previous Christmas, but I did not want to hog his system to replay Chrono Trigger. I did later pick up Chrono Cross, though, and that PS1 eventually became a hand-me-up after my brother was given a PS2...

    *ahem*

Time warp forward to early December of this year, and I am in Best Buy. I see one last copy of Chrono Trigger DS on the shelf for $19.99, and decide to buy it.

You _do_ know you can emulate the PS1 (an dlikely PS2 not) on a PC, right? and you DO buy the game disks to do so, so it's not piracy and you dont have to feel guilty.

There was a PS1 emulator in 2000? If so, I had no idea.

Also, I did not mean to hijack this thread.

As for PS2 emulation in 2000, I would likely need the Epoch for that.

You need the PS1 BIOS to emulate it, so it is still piracy.

There were several commerical PS1 emulators that paid for the usage of the BIOS or had written their own. Gamestation comes to mind...

Aye, but nowadays, you can pick up a PS1 for about the same price as one of those discs.

Sorry, the person that bought it realized the problem(apparently my parents told her I owned ALL of the consoles when I don't own a PS3 or a PSP so it wasn't her fault) and returned for a Wii Points Card(a console I own)

That's true, I was talking about years ago it was a very affordable option (which is how I played Spyro 1-3, FF Chronicles, GEX 3, and ChronoCross) Though the experiance is nothing compared to playing them on the real console.

I got a new mouse to replace the microsoft one that the rubber is deteriorating on, a framed/signed monkey island poster that the family was all proud of using a 60% off coupon for until they found out how much the frame job would still be after discount, a gps device because I'm directionally challenged and a wind-up lantern for watching over the dogs and taking out the trash. Hard to see outside at night with little light out there so the lantern is really nice. The poster is hovering over my desk at the moment filling up the gap that's been there for years. It's nice finally to have some art in here!

How did they wrap that up so you wouldn't know what it was? I'd think the muffled screaming would give it away. Also, that brings up a load of ethical questions concerning regifting.
