What the? Apparently I need to come back to these forums more often. Tabacco is gone? I guess that explains why I don't see him on here anymore.

Wow, and in May! That was before Emily left. :(

*Edit* I am down to half a post per day in the stats. So I decided to fill the second half of this post with an edit. That is how it works, right?

Well, some of us are born Human, some of us achieve Humanity and some of us have Humanity thrust upon us. You must be one of the first type, Avistew.

And don't worry Falanca, I knew one guy didn't get his certificate ever, but he did get really good at faking it. (Hardly anyone ever asks for them anyway.)

Yeah, the Pawpets show reference kinda gave you away there, Ashton. Don't worry though, we'll keep your secret.

You know, I was thinking about it, and I think part of the problem isn't that we are posting less so much as everyone else is posting so much more. It gets hard to find our smattering of posts when there are there are hundreds of posts per day instead of tens of posts.

Also, not gonna lie, these forums can be kinda daunting when you've got a 5 minute break and see 200 unread threads.

Not to mention we've gone from 3 main forums (SbCgFAP, CSI, S+M) to 5 now (adding W+G and ToMI) and in time I'm sure it will go to 6 or more (as per verious releases where you guys say your trying to aquire more lisences)

You guys might consider dividing it up, if (for example) you, will, like talking about W+G best, and Jake likes talking about S+M best, then you post in the W+G forums primarily and Jake posts int he S+M forums primarily with only your PR person (Nikisaur?) posting everywhere as time allows (and letting you know if there is a question you need to address in one of the other forums becides the one you mainly watch).

Just a few thoughts... take them as you will. (;) bad pun, I know)

Hello everybody! Yes! It is I! TomPravetz, the not quite a moderator! I can be almost everything! And I do not mean somethings I cannot be, I mean I can literally almost be anything! Yes! Now fear me! Or don't! That's cool too! (Woah, where is this post going?!)

Err... I love TTG and their mods. And their new business intern! Hi, new business intern! (Everyone say hi!)

After some thinking of my own I think part of that is that there's nobody doing it as their main job anymore. There's not only no replacement for Emily, but also nobody even having her old job. (And the same goes for other web team members who left or changed job descriptions.)
It's like there used to be people who made sure questions got answered because that was part of their job, and now all we get are people giving us a few off minutes since they should technically be doing something else. That may not be entirely fair or true to say, but there it is.

Smaller forum presence?! I'm not sure what you mean. I myself have posted over 50 times in the last decade!

Yes, we all remember how idyllic things were back in 2004, long before games had ever been invented. My job in those days was simply to imagine what games would be like if we did invent them, and then to write space-filling puff pieces to hide the fact that we hadn't actually come up with anything.

But now my job is much simpler. I just manufacture space-filling puff directly and sell it from our website. This is a laborious process requiring 15 of my 16 waking hours each day. (The last hour is reserved for watching Designing Women reruns.)

And yes, I miss Emily and Doug and Heather too. But luckily we found a nikasaur in the woods and she's doing a great job!

So that's who nikasaur is. I thought she was a programmer, and I thought she was a man. O_O

Why do so many people assume nikasaur is a guy? Is it just like, everyone is assumed male until proven otherwise?

    No, sir, Mr. Lena.

But yeah I think what originally put the idea in my head was the fact that her avatar is a sprite. Which registers retro, which registers guy to me. I only know of one woman who has any relation to sprites or retro, though I'm sure there are many.

You mean Maxilyah? Yeah, people assume she's a guy a lot, too. And why don't people assume I'm a guy? My avatar does have a mustache after all! (That reminds me, I really need to visit that costume store ...)

I always new nikasaur was a gal. She's my BFF (well tied, w/ Hans Suro, Adel, Mr Majus, and Mihai) Ain't that right, nikasaur?

I never assumed you were a guy. You don't talk like a guy.

And I'm referring to nikasaur, not Maxilyah. And I knew Maxilyah was a girl because she did Morgans voice in IWWHIIWWHITOMIROTPG: The Game.

TP, you have too many BFF's and not enough commas.

Edit: I don't talk like a guy? And nikasaur does? Weird, as a girl, I thought she was way girlier sounding than me ... and I meant is Maxilyah the girl you know who is into sprites? She's into makin' 'em and stuff.

Oh, no no. Well, yes, Maxilyah counts but I wasn't thinking of someone I knew, but someone I knew of, who would be Roberta Williams. And I think there are a couple female spriters in the indie games scene too, but I'm not sure of my memory as I've been out of that scene for over a year.

Originally, I think that was my focus in being hired here, and I assure you that from this point on, we're all trying to chip in a good deal with this. What Will said is right, we have a decent amount of people posting consistently enough (Will, DavidE, Bonnie in support, Jake, Yare, the works) but the volume of posts has gone up. I'm trying to keep my fingers in the forums a lot more now, since it's what I really wanted to do from the get-go. The thing is, it's a tertiary part of a job- this task has a deadline, but the forums are ALWAYS there... it's all too easy to shift focus elsewhere.
...and I will comment that all those other posters I mentioned above take time out of their busy schedules to help out to the best of their abilities and I don't feel they get applauded enough in this regard. <3 them.

PS- I love the internet. It always thinks I'm a boy, and I'm kinda cool with that.

True that. And while it's fun and nostalgic and all to look back at the 2006 days and fondly remember how great they were, the same exact thing used to happen to us back then, too. When other stuff is going on, the forums are usually the first thing to fall off the to-do list (followed by the blog, and sleep, in that order).

Will makes a good point on the volume of posts. Keeping up with all of them now would be a full-time job by itself!

I knew you were female. I think I saw "Nik" and thought "Nikki".

I always seem to get mistaken for being male on the Internet. If you believe those Internet test that try to figure out your gender from a writing sample, it's because I write more masculine most of the time.

I think as an aspiring writer, it's mostly best to stay away from slang. Otherwise you confuse real life with novels. Or the other way around. I'm not really awake yet.

The only reason I thought nikasaur was a guy is because of the "nik" at the beginning. I guess it's because I know a lot more people named Nick than Nikki.

I assumed at first that Nikasaur was male for the same reason Thriftweed did. Especially since there was a prominent "Nick" presence here, so my mind didn't have to leap very far to see "Nik" as "Nick".

As for Maxilyah and Lena_P, I knew they were female from day one. Lena for the obvious reason that "Lena" is a female name, and the name "Maxilyah" just sounds overtly feminine.

And now, I learn today that Shwoo is female. Confound the internet for throwing off my inner generic-male/female "text reading" voices. :p

This is why I don't post here that often anymore. I miss the forums before the TTG explosion, but then again I joined just before S&M was out (therefore there are probably those Bone fans and the like that felt the same way I feel now back in 2006).

*Edit* And that is why ShaggE is my hero. I am always impressed at how well he keeps up with this forum and others. (Haggis and Hero1 also have my respect)

When I talk about my husband on the Internet, people tend to ask "are you gay or female?"
(Which annoys me because if I were bisexual and male, I would be neither. A better question would be "are you female or not straight?").

I think we have digressed from the main topic enough that it's back on topic.
By which I mean, maybe there is less presence because our threads tend to go off topic and have little to do with whatever question was asked in the first place. And when a thread goes wild, it makes sense staying away from it. They can be dangerous.
  • edited January 2010

Off-topic: I get mistaken for being male, but only on forums for discussing computer games.

On-topic: I wasn't around on these forums until half a year ago, so I can't compare to how things used to be. But I've seen more posts by staff members than I usually see on forums; I've been a member of forums before without ever really hearing from any of the staff, at least here they do still make posts a.k.a they actually exist!
