Yeah... I just want to know. It's nothing suspicious about this. I'm not making anything and neither does my team. Which I don't have. Ignore that.

Backgrounds designer anyone?

Oh... How about a take-a-number machine?

-puts up a take-a-number machine- -takes number-

Yes! A00! A dream come true! Now to answer your question. I cannot draw backgrounds.

Oh, come on! *shoves Tom away* Get out of here and stop answering my questions! I already have a nut-case doctor at home who does that 24/7!

You, sir, may be the wittiest person I have ever met. What a beautiful place for a Kauff reference. I bow before your true amazingness. And, just for you, I am off.

I am sadly not an graphic artist, but I could try to develop an A.I. that is one.

I don't want to boast, but my background art skills are beyond amazing. Here's something from my portfolio:

I can, but I'm still learning and need a number of references or gestural drawings of an area beforehand to even get it the least bit right.

I'm very good at drawing the following cartoon backgrounds:

    Polar Bear In Arctic Snowstorm
Black Cat At Midnight On Overcast Night With No Moon

Please contact my agent for negotiations if your project has these needs.

Okay, thanks for the replies. A sample would be much appreciated from each. Thanks :)

    I suck at backgrounds.

You know, the reason why I write this here is to add some flavor.

I hate backgrounds. And I don't want to draw any for your, silver. But because I worked hard on backgrounds for a webcomic that I ended up not doing, well I'm going to post my page anyways.

I mean, I never got a chance to brag about it or anything >.>

I'd say it's almost as good as Fealiks's.

(The bushes in particular look especially awesome :P Or maybe they're trees, it's kinda hard to tell.)

A while back, I got it into my head to try and make an adventure game in AGS, and I did some backgrounds for that. Didn't do many (4 I think) before getting distracted and moving onto something else, but I can understand why nobody likes doing them.

It's the perspectives, I think. I found those quite hard to get to grips with.

Let me give you an example of some I did quickly, so I knew what backgrounds I had yet to do...

Just a little hard to read in that size.

Well, I don't like drawing period, so I'm probably not the best person to ask, but...
I think it's the fact it's big, usually detailed, and in the end most people won't pay any attention to it. Makes you feel like you're working for nothing at all.
Plus, you usually have a good idea about what the characters look like, but background? A random street, cafe, building, park... You don't usually have such a clear idea about these, so you need lots of references.

In the end it's more work for less result. So that's less rewarding (if at all).

    EDIT:

Well, I reduced it for the forums. Since I was only showing the background... Here if you want a bigger size.

But it's a first page, it's not like it's anything really interesting.

...might want to think about resizing that image, Tom.

Here's a better example of one of mine:

    Walkway.jpg

...it's supposed to be the cargo area of a spaceship. If and when I get back to this, I'll scan it in properly and tidy it up a bit (maybe add some safety rails to the edge of the walkway).

I think the point was that it stretches our screens.
So posting a smaller image is nice and all but it doesn't change the fact that the first one is too big :P

Hng... too tired to be able to read what it says.

Anyway, I don't know if I'm good at backgrounds. I guess I would have to practice a little if it came to buildings and stuff, but I like skies and clouds and all that.
I might just doodle some random stuff and post it here later.

I am SHOCKED that you didn't ask me.
    Just kidding.
To be honest, I don't really add backgrounds to pictures that often, but I could probably draw one for you if you need me to.

My mother in laws phrases it in a way I really like: "there is no failure, only accidental success".

For instance, you didn't fail at making a strawberry cake, you accidentally succeeded in making glue.
